Troy Evans

makes ya wonder why signing sam cowart was notable...

i have always liked troy evans. he got the texans first turnover of the season last yr....against the seahawks. maybe he will play more run downs.
 
after a healthy Babin, Evans has been our best linebacker since we let Sharper go... if he would have been getting Foreman's and the soccer player's starts he would probably be the defensive face of the team.
 
Don't underestimate the value of Cowart. He has the experience and knowledge to teach Ryans a whole lot.
 
I love Evan's play. He is a Bull Pen favorite. He is always around the ball.


He gives 100% ALL the time and I think that is what Gary saw.

It was a happy story to read.

I sat next to him at the Texans team luncheon last year. Super likeable guy.

What is interesting about him from a locker room perspective is that he gets along with all the groups of players--guys with big contracts and guys who are trying to make the team. Nice leadership qualities.

In practice, you can see how much Coach Joe relies on him.

I wish him the best.
 
I just wonder if this is an effort by Kubiak to find an additional spot for Evans.

I think I've read somewhere that Kubiak doesn't favor specialty guys. Other than kickers of course. Gotta play another role.

Any chance that if Evans cannot beat out someone for a backup LB spot that he might be a casualty...idonno:

I like Evans..Just asking opinions.

IMO, but just guessing....

Kubiak doesn't care about pedigree. He cares about players who are smart, work hard, have high motors, work through injury and can play.

He wants to reward that work ethic with playing time. It benefits Evans and it benefits the entire team to see that happen.

So, I'm guessing he wants to give Evans more reps to see what he can do. It is hard to look at just last year's film with some of our guys, given what Mike Sherman said about that...something about how you had to kinda throw out last year's film.
 
I've liked Evans since I saw him tee off on some poor cat on the opening KR, would have been 2-3 years ago. Don't remember who or what team even, but I always like the way he works. He brings it every play (think Peek) and seems pretty bright (think Wong), just minus the athleticism of them both.

Hopefully he can find a permanent home on the roster.

Like Zach Thomas??? MLB needs a knack for the ball and a crazy motor. Has them both - good to see him get a chance
 
I really don't think GK is gong to try Evans at MLB. He would be more of a "Willie" OLB, because he is fast enough to play that postion. It's just a matter if he can play under control. His motor reminds me a lot like Peeks. Excellent tackler and not afraid to hit. Wish him the best!
 
will lineback makes sense for Evans, especially with the knick and various injuries Barrett Green has had. The only only problem is Greenwood needs someone who can push him a little more than Evans. I see Evans as a backup and st standout, but maybe I'm wrong. So in that way I like Evans playing mike, because Ryans wil be a solid starter very soon. The other question is, can Cowart be a backup or he is getting paid too much for that. I would like to see him moved to another spot to challenge someone else.
 
I have to agree with Vinny, Cowart will have a hard making this roster. He played saturday and made zero noise. I think the wear and tear has finally caught up to him. :crutch:
 
Troy off the edge & special teams. seems like thr prototypical Bronco style LB, not overly fast, or even big/strong but understands assignments and makes plays.

Really don't know a whole lot about Cowart, one would think he adds depth & experience at least in a supporting role :cool:

I seriously think Kubiak has had a plan for everything he's done, and mcnair too for that matter. I think weaver was a true upgrade grab after losing walker. I think rainer and cowart were planned tutors and fillins to nurture the planned aquistion of future LB's (Ryans, maybe even Orr will benefit from their experience) I think management knew they couldnt fill all the needs of the team in one season, but having the veterans around for when those replacements needed thier leadership, was the plan all along. I see us grabbing another LB in next years draft as well. and cowart will pay divendends. just my oppinnion.

Paul Posluszny, Penn State That is my preseason person of want. He is the #1 need and hopefully available when we pick guy. A Strongside LB who has the size and speed to be a game changer. Would have been a top 10 pick this year if he had not hurt his knee in the the teams bowl game. Should be a top 10 pick again. But could slide with a slow start due to the knee.

#2 guy to watch Patrick Willis Mississippi, MLB who would allow us to move Ryans back to his more natural Will position. Top inside backer in the 2007 draft. Should be available in the middle 1st. A true run stopper from a real football conference.

#3 guy to watch - Rufus Alexander Oklahoma OLB

Just a few guys to keep your eyes on this upcomeing season. All would help this team for year to come.

Ryans needs some help at LB. We have a good core DL now we need to build the LBs.

You still havn't answered my question, does Cowart stay if he can not crack the lineup?
