Travis Johnson

If felt that Travis Johnson really played tonights game like we expect our 1st round pick of a tackle to play. consistently getting great jumps on the ball and had caused alot of havoc in the backfield nof the chiefs, including getting a sack. Even though it was mainly against 2nd teamers he probably had the best performance of any of our D-Line men. Thoughts?

I need to see him do it against a starting O-line, but maybe he just doesn't like practice and needs an attitude adjustment.

I made it a point to watch TJ during the game in light of all the negative things I'd been reading about him. I thought he played with a lot of intensity and hustle. I haven't seen him at all during camp, but he looked fine to me last night.

There was no question he was part of the 2nd unit (along with Seth Payne), which was nice to see. After some of the things I'd been reading, I was starting to wonder whether he was struggling to even make the team.

I saw his teammates patting him and giving him shoves after he made a play...and that's what he needs: He needs to be encouraged by the guys in the trenches beside him.

I feel bad for him. He was picked by a lame duck coaching staff, which was fired, and then in comes Mario. Heck, it's easy to see how a guy can let that get to him. It's easy to get "lost" in all that.

I think he will raise his intensity as games and plays go by. In the 3-4 our entire defensive squad was just universally lost and mismatched on every single play. Period.

I listened to the game back on Field Pass and the announcers were being complimentary about the way he played.

Travis looked good. I liked what i saw.. thing is I don't really know if we have a 1st string/2nd string per say... I am liking a rotation of 8 guys ...williams,weaver,payne,kalu,johnson,smith,babin and peek.

as far as 2nd string with TJ and payne.. they were a nice suprise

just wondering what kind of stuff we will see in the reg season.. lots of different looks we have the option to do

Too bad KC's interior is probably top 5 in the league.
Weaver got pushed around a little. Rams can't do that, they dont have the personel.
I dunno about their interior OLinemen, but heard they got a fair to midland LT ?

It would be great to see TJ do well. He's been one of the players I've been very concerned about. I'd be glad to take a mea culpa on that evaluation if he contributes this year.

If TJ were to be promoted to the first team, that would mean that the Texan's starting defensive line would include three first round draft picks (Mario Williams, Jason Babin, Travis Johnson).

It was weird, I still felt like TJ was taking plays off, but still would make the plays. He did well at getting in the backfield on passing plays. If he can just gain more intensity, hopefully he turns out alright and we can just say his lame 2005 play was another effect of our horrible 3-4 idea.

I dunno, but TJ in my eyes was doing great last year. That is why I was so pissed about the camp reports that he was slacking off.

TJ can penetrate.
It was a down year for everyone last year, but TJ just seemed out of place. Him playing his natural position should help out.

TJ looked very good except for when Printers beat him around the edge during one of his scrambles, which should be expected I suppose.

I heard on the broadcast that on top of being in Kubiak's dog house, he is nursing a calf a injury. Any truth to either of these?

TJ did pretty well last night, however, it's hard to tell wether or not he would be as successful against starting competion. Until they allow him to start in a pre-season game, I really believe that players like E. Cochran and A. Malone played just as well if not better than TJ. Also, A. Weaver was getting blown up last night and I think he would be better suited to play DE than DT at this point, but it's unfair to make a judgement at this point since it was our 1st pre-season game. Time will tell.

I think Weaver like Mario just needs to get accoustomed to the scheme. Thats why I feel the defense needs to log in a few more snaps during these games to get them ready for the real action come Semptember.

Yep, I agree, that's why I was surprise they took Mario out too soon!

I was happy with TJ, he looked real aggressive. In the backfield disrupting the the running plays, and charging on the pass plays.

Alfred Malone also looked good enough to be a backup in this league.

Printers really showed some speed on that play....... if TJ did catch him, that would really be something. But I think TJ did really well, being a preseason game. & with the second team on the field, he was the one facing double teams, and still making noise... If we get him and Mario on the field at the same time, QBs are going to hate coming to Reliant.

I read a story this morning, where Kubiak feels the same way about Weaver, and will be switching him out to DE on some plays...... he and Mario will play both positions....

& I agree Cochran looked great.......... but he was playing against guys who won't even make the roster. Cochran deserves some time with the second team, then maybe a serious shot at a roster spot. But as it stands, we've got too many good looking D-Linemen.

I'd like to see more of Kalu, & Cochran....... & I'd like to see TJ and Seth work with the first team. Of Course Mario Stays, and I don't see how anyone can complain about what Babin & Peek did, or how they looked. The only guys I was disappointed with, was Smith, and Weaver....... but it's unlikely they will not make the team, or become part of the second unit.

I like the combo of Payne and TJ, I think they not only play well together but I think the presence and work ethic of Payne is rubbing off on TJ. To me there is no question, best line for the run
Weaver, TJ, Payne, Mario,

best line for the pass
Peek, TJ, Mario, Babin

I would absolutely love to eat my words after calling him a lazy arrogant bust. It'll take more than a few plays in pre-season to do that, but I'll go ahead and preheat the oven.

I hope Tj is a game day player and not a practice player( even though I believe you practice how you play)..
