Kris Browns Performance ?

I have to ask what everyone thinks about Kris Browns performance Sat. he did blow alot of games last year for us, so how does everyone think he will do this season, or should he have been replaced.....this is a vital position when it comes down to making a game winning field goal.....

Well, there was the one extra point that almost hit the left upright. We have more important issues to deal with first. We'll see how he does this year and go from there I would assume:shades:

I think he is costing us 1.3M this year. Who is U of H's kicker this year? I bet he can make a no-pressure forty yarder. Brown's a terrible kicker IMO and if not for the cap issues (I think he would cost a lot to cut, not sure on the numbers) and the fact that we'd be hard pressed to find a reliable kicker at this point, we'd have cut him a long time ago. Unless he goes on a real tear, I expect he'll be gone when his contract is up.

Houston Texans go from 2-14 last year to within a field goal of tying the Superbowl up with 8 seconds left on the clock. Kris Brown dinged it off the left goal post and....well, you do know this is the city the Oilers played in, right?

He will have to do this year I think someone just needs to pull him aside and let him know that we are not trying to get the first pick anymore. All kidding aside it does worry me with so many games being won with a fieldgoal but lets hope O scores enough that we do not have to worry about a game winning fieldgoal going wide.:tvhorror:

Either way, I wouldn't pick up a kicker in the draft. Especially in the early rounds. I'd rather pick up a FA or trade for a kicker that's proven himself in the NFL already.

My concern is the potential situation of an inconsistent Chris Brown being the difference between a losing season and a winning season. Considering so many game come down to final moments, having a reliable kicker could make a big difference.

He's got the physical skills, so he just needs to get his head focussed.

There is nothing out there right now that is a significan upgrade. I am willing to wait out the seaon with him. My deal is that you should never be in the situation to win a game by a FG. I know it happens but you should never be in that situation.

I thought the same thing until I saw KC's punter. That guy was incredible. I know they burned a third rounder to get him (too high for any kicker/punter) but if a guy like that cames along and we can get him in the sixth or seventh - I say do it.

Yea, I guess if he was a standout type kicker I might pull the trigger in the later rounds.:fieldgoal

I posted this about a week ago, Kris Brown, once again, someone please tell what is going on with him? 2 missed easy feilds goals in the past two games, that a average high school kicker could of sunk through......What is going with this guy.......this could truely make or break some clutch wins this season.......HELP........If I was Kris I would be hiding under my seat on the plane ride home tonight:hides:

Using "Stud" + "Kicker" in the same sentence that is not referring to "Vinatieri" is against the laws of nature, I think. Consider yourself warned. The Natural Law Police will be watching you very, very closely.

i understand that it's procedure to make fun of the kickers, but that doesnt diminish the role that they play. kickers are the final say so on who wins too often to take them lightly, especially in the playoffs. the colts could have a ring (or two) right now if not for vanderjagt, the pats 3 sb wins could be 3 sb losses, the eagles obviously hurt when akers was injured. the all-time leading scorers are the andersons. uncontested attempts inside 40yds should be automatic for any respectable college kicker, let alone professionals ... as someone who's kicked before i dont think that's too much to ask. it's to the point where i'm very doubtful that kris brown should make the roster, but unfortunately we dont even have any competition for him.

just as a reference, 3 of the top 4 leading scorers last season were kickers (only shaun alexander was higher). http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFL/TPTS/2005/regular

IMO, we have problems with both our kickers. True, Stanley can drop a punt inside the 20, but he gives up way too much field position on his other punts that are too short. Those 2 punts in the 4th qtr would hurt us in the regular season, and Stanley has never punted for average...Stanley only avg 39 yds w/1 drop inside the 20, while the Ram punter avg over 50 yds also with 1 drop inside the 20--that is a 'huge' difference and field position 'maker/breaker.' I'm suprised Kubiak is not concerned about this...

Its just my joke from all posts concerning drafts, been doing it all my life, I didn't really mean it till this off-season though.

Chad Stanley is a beast for us! Look at the punt returns

Texans............8 2 111 13.9 33 0
Opponents.......2 6 14 7.0 11 0

Maybe Stanley can kick our feildgoals:rolleyes:

Agreed, the kicker scores more point in a season than any other player. I would have to say it should be a top priority. However, it is the one of the few positions Kubiak locked going into camp. Brown can be consistant, we have seen it before. Lets hope he gets his head straight.

Hopefully Brown is working this out in camp and pre-season. I'm sure the coaching staff is addressing it, too. The last thing they want is to lose games because of poor special teams. It comes down to fundamentals.

Is there a reason you don't spell his name correctly?

I feel KB is just like Carr was. He has not had any competetion at his position.

He needs some competetion to jack him up some!

Seriously, I never knew why we brought Kris Brown in to start with. He was horrible in Pittsburgh.

There NO RELIABLE kickers available at this time. But you can be sure that the Texans will be scouring the waiver wires come Tuesday, if for no other reason but competition to send a message.

Mason Crosby from Colorado. Apparently he's made a 75 yarder in practice and his coach is going to let him try a 70 yarder in a game.

I think he let last year go to his head... Someone tell Kris Brown it's WAAAY to early to start trying to aquire Brady Quinn.
