I think we are looking at a great year!

How can I tell after one quarter? I've been following Denver for over 11 years now so I know what their offense looks like inside and out. Let me tell you that looked like Denver out their. That is a good thing because that is exactly how Denver's oline gets it done. I was worried that it would take a while for this unit to execute it perfectly and it looks like they are already getting it done. Also Lundy is a perfect back for this scheme. Mark my words he will be our premiere back this year. That was a perfect series he just ran. He has it down pat. I'm not worried at all. Our offense is going to be very upbeat this year. Many many many great things! I can't wait.

The only problem I have had with this game so far is our Defense getting ripped up the middle any time the Cheifs deside to run. I know Ryans is a rookie, but its what really stands out.

Besides that I think Sage and Lundy are looking impressive.

I think everything was judged a bit too early.. But honestly they finally started getting it together... I think the Texans played a fabulous game... We had strong contribution from all kinds of people.. Of course we had a few rookie mistakes.. aka the punt fumble.. But overall I'm loving the new offense.. and the 2nd team defense.. OMG they just practically stuffed them... Travis was all over chasing Printer! I do have to say I think the Texans are going to have a GREAT year!

Being up here in Kansas, we were privy to the KC announcers and their team bias...they kept saying it was like they were playing Denver. "Sour Grapes"...gotta love watching someone else spew 'em.:cowboy1:

I think they had started to institute the zone blocking last season, but when they threw playbook out window I think they let down on zone blocking too.

I taped the game and will go watch it sometime tomorrow to watch for individual players, so as of right now I don't have much to comment on individuals. However, I have two main comments for the team as a whole:

1) Our team played a very disciplined game. Up until that last last offensive drive they had, the longest play they'd had all night was a 16 yard scramble by their 3rd string QB on our 3rd string defense. For the night, we outgained them 325-172 in total yards, 173-106 in rushing yards, 152-66 in passing yards, and 21-11 in first downs. We didn't allow a single sack the whole night and our defense put up 5. Up until David Anderson's muffed punt, we hadn't turned the ball over either, so our offense took care of the ball, while our defense forced 2 turnovers. We won the time of possession battle 35:55-24:05, and we only committed 5 penalties for 35 yards. I knew our team would be more disciplined this year compared to last year but this game was still surprisingly good in that aspect.

2) Our team looked very decisive, much unlike they ever did last year. The offense looked crisp and looked like they knew what they were wanting to do, and in general they accomplished what they were trying to do quite well. We only had a 3 and out drive 1 time out of 10 on offense, we had two different drives of over 10 plays, each of which ate up over 7 minutes of clock time. Outside of their 1st team's last drive and one long pass completion at the end of the game our defense looked quite good too. They forced a 3 and out on 5 out of 11 possessions, then forced two turnovers within the first 3 plays of their respective drives, and the Chiefs only had one offensive drive over 4 minutes in length. We controlled the temp on both sides of the ball.

I realize this is only the 1st preseason game, but I really like the way the game went and I like many aspects of the way our team played. I think we are definitely on the right track and if we can play like this and keep improving I think we're in for a very entertaining and competitive season. I'll post more on my evaluations of individual players after I get a chance to watch the game tape again.

Agreed. M/K A REAL Offense and a more aggressive defense will lead to good things for Texans. Love those reverse bootlegs especially that one play where Sage had two options with Joppru and Armstrong ; completed to DR.

THis offense seems to be a great system for mobile QBs. Even Porter looked good.OL played well.....no sacks, almost 170 yards rushing.

The Texans have been running a zone scheme for 2 years now. Kubiak is instituting some nuance differences much more than changing the whole run blocking system.

I was very impressed with Rosenfels. I liked his mobility and decision making. Several of his passes were right on the money and dropped. To the extent I can tell from one preseason game, he is definitely an upgrade over Banks and someone who is, at minimum, a quality NFL back up.

Agreed... a MUCH needed improvement over Banks. I was also very impressed with Ryans, and Lewis Sanders.

Larry Johnson vs. the NFL--5.2 ypc.

Larry Johnson vs. the Texans 4.3 ypc (5.9 ypc last year).

Not dominant on either side.

I'm here to wish you guys the best of luck this year against most all your games except 2 of them. Again go beat the Colts and the Titans Texans!!!

I felt so good about what I saw during the game. All I wanted to see before the season started was what we looked like as far as pass protection, running back, corner opposite D-Rob, and over the top at the safeties. I know we'll have time to pass now. Kubiak going for it on 4th & 1 being a little aggressive when Capers would punt, etc. great. That zone blocking looks real good, and sorry if it bit me but I couldn't help but wonder what the system would look like with Reggie behind it. He didn't have a hole and did the Barry Sanders thing, so if he had our holes and rode our zone wave? Anyway enough about that. Then I see Lewis Sanders really wants to be out there to help Dunta on the other side. Finally using our TE's! Yes Lord! Plus Kubiak talking about 8 man rotation for the O & D line!?... I like that. I would also like to see Antwan Peek at the other end with Mario not Weaver. Well Mario, Peek and Orr out there at once would be nice.

Only things I didn't like was the run stop on D; didn't look too good. Then those drops from passes on the sidelines and bootlegs looked a little soft. All in all I think we will definitely be happy with the effort our team will put in this year.
