Associated Press reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said RB Domanick Davis (knee) is still bothered by a knee injury. "We're hoping for Domanick to get back," Kubiak said. However, Kubiak said if the knee continues to give Davis problems the team is going to have to find someone else that can step up and be the team's starting tailback.

Updating previous reports, Associated Press reports Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said RB Antowain Smith will start at tailback in the team's first preseason game because RB Domanick Davis (knee) is not ready to return yet.
 
I listened to Domanick yesterday on 610 and he sounded pumped and ready to get with the program, he is very mentally tough & a great fit for Kubiak's system. I'll bet he'll be ready to go by opening day and get between 15-20 carries for around 100 yards and a pair of TD's :redtowel:

God, I hope so. I'd still like to see him get some quality reps in the pre-season though, we need to know whether the knee is really ready or not.
 
Some say I have been a pessimist regarding DD and his knee, but I think I was just being realistic. After taking everything in over the last few weeks, I do not think we will ever see the same Davis on the field that we have seen in the past and I seriously doubt if he is even able to play out his contract without causing some serious possible permanent damage to his knee, even though I hate the thought of all of it. I am not a DD hater, he is one of the few who have produced consitatnly for us over the years and one I consider to be one of the faces of the franchise, I hate it that he is going through this, I just want to see the old Davis on the field, I hope to God that my opinion on the situation is wrong.

I tend to agree with this as well. The days of DD are nearing an end. Gee, who was available this offseason that could have been a great replacement for DD. Hmmm, anyone? I am stumped. :hmmm:

Too old. Man, I have been thinking all night long. I just can't remember a stud Running Back that is young, can catch passes out of the backfield like DD, but has even better speed. I am totally stumped I tell ya. :spy:

Enough about Reggie, we dont need him. Antowain Smith is relatively old but he is still very reliable... and believe me when I say that his career in the NFL to date is better than what Reggies will be at any time in the future....

Nah, I have been banned by the Mario police. You know them as the ones who before the draft had never heard of him, and were fawing all over Reggie as if he were God himself, and acted as if the Earth orbited around the USC campus. Now, they are the same folks who swear they wanted Mario all along and that we don't need RB. At least I have a take, and stick to it. Unlike these newfound Mario lovers who couldn't have named him a month before the draft. Having said that, I hope like heck that Mario is a beast. I am in no way anti-Mario. I simply thought RB was the correct choice, and I will stand by that. Call me whatever you wish, but don't call me a flip flopper.

Well, if you look at my prior posts, I was not a Bush fan except for the fact I wanted to trade down and get more picks. I think once I thought about it, Mario was a good pick, but I would have been quite happy with a trade down and more players or picks next year. But that past.

I wanted Reggie. And yes, Mario was not someone I would have considering being the top pick. You can go back in time and view old posts to see that I wanted Bush as much as anyone. But that was only because I had not reviewed all the options. Those of us who had not heard about Mario Williams before did not have a chance to see how good of a player he is, and how much we needed him. We have never had a weak point at RB and therefore picking Mario was not something that I clammered about 4 months later.

No one will ever call you a flip flopper. But it does get old to see all this Reggie talk. Seriously. Its over. No one denies how dignified you are, but that doesn't mean we want to hear about Reggie all day, either.

I never liked USC or UT. If you want the plain truth, thats it.

Frankly, I think Porky makes a good point. I don't wanna knock Mario, but we are looking at a hurt DD who may or may not ever recover. He's getting to that point where the avg. NFL running back is done and here he is with knee problems that don't seem to wanna heal. We've all heard the arguments on both sides, but DD's problems are just one more argument for Bush. Does it tip the scales? Good grief--who knows?

Good post. And same for you dime. It's all good. Remember something about me for the future guys, and Vinny knows this. I sometimes like to stir the pot for the simple sake of stirring debate, or even getting under people's skin. It's all in fun. I wouldn't be talking to you guys (or gals) like this in person. I don't lie though. I did want RB. But, I might bring up his name here now. Why? To get people to think. To create debate. To "stir the pot". Please do NOT take anything I say here personally. As I said, I am not anti Mario. Nobody wants him to succeed more than I do. But, nobody wants to go to a forum where everyone is in lock step and agrees 100% with every opinion. That's incedibly boring. That would be like the stepford wives. So, if I have offended, it's not my intention. But, I have a style that I write in. Some might call it grating or acerbic, or even mean spirited at times, but it's not meant to be personal. Peace out (as the kids say):francis:

Anyways, yea. I got ya. Did I think it was a mistake to pass him up then? Yes. But it is how we deal with it and how well our pick plays out for us that counts. In my opinion, we have a lockdown DE for the next 10 years. I like the sound of that.

Besides.... some of you seem to forget (time and time again) who we have behind DD. Antowain Smith, a reliable and certainly proven back. Followed by Morency, who performed admirably last year when called up to share time with Wells when DD was out. Also, Wali Lundy, an exciting prospect.

I think we have awesome depth at RB. Maybe it is just me.....

Okay, now I have to (honestly) disagree with you. A Smith has never impressed me much. I see 3 yards and a cloud of dust with him. Reliable? Maybe. Sort of like my dearly departed grandfather's old Ford Escort. We used to joke with him to pull over when he gets to a hill, so he can let us out and push it up the hill while he floors it. That's Antwion. Morency is a total unknown. His running style last yr reminded me more of Gene Kelly in Dancing in the rain than a running back. If what we hear out of camp is true, maybe we have something, but he is no sure thing. Lundy is a rookie 6th rounder fighting for the last spot on the roster, and again, a total unknown.
 
I just have a problem paying a runningback 60+ mill. to carry the ball 10-15 times a game. We have a lot of money tied up on the offense. Didn't the Patriots win the super bowl with A. Smith???? I thought so

OK, let me crack my knuckles so I may begin.

Antowain is a proven back. I have watched him play at New England and from what I have seen in Kubiaks system, the two will work well together.

There is concern about Morencys running style. But that is something that can be worked on. Kubiak has already addressed it. He told him from day one that it was something that needed to be fixed. Besides that, he can become an exceptional back.

What is your problem with unknowns? As I said, Lundy is a prospect. We need to watch how he works during preseason to predict much of anything. But to tell you the tuth, from what I have personally seen at training camp out of this kid, he looks promising. Is there a chance he will be a nobody? Of course. But there is that same gamble with every rookie RB, even your deity Reggie.

In the end, there is one thing that dictates our running game.... the line. As it has been so truthfully admitted, no RB can be successful without good blocks and a working offensive line. We are addressing that.

Also, what happens if DD stays healthy? God forbid! He didn't get his spline replaced or anything.... he had knee surgery. Do I think he will start 16 games? No. But he may complete a handful of games before the season is up, at least four.

Please explain to me once again why our RB situation is dismal without Reggie?

don't worry everyone is on board praying that Mario is the answear to the Texans pass rush, but I only wanted Reggie Bush as a resolution to the great Carr debate and resounding endorsement from Gary (thats who I trust) otherwise I'm on the VY bandwagon. As a matter of fact I declined to pick on our Mock draft due to the fact it was clear the Texans would not select VY even though in my mind Vince Young was the QB to carry the Texans and the city of Houston into future NFL glory. my bad :crying:

ps. when Domanick is healthy he is a effective back so Mario fills a bigger need and if Carr turns his career around like Jake Plummer did for Kubiak then the Texans probably made the best decision based upon sound scouting :cool:
