DENVER -- The Broncos said Monday that undrafted rookie Mike Bell is now the No. 1 running back headed into the preseason opener this week at Detroit.

The Denver Broncos prove once again you don't need to use a high Draft pick
to get a RB. Why even use a Draft pick at all ?
Granted, this guy is a long ways from starting for the Broncos on opening day of the regualr season, but he's obviously in the running (NPI), for that job.

I was in Vail snowboarding over February and the Denver Post targeted this guy as a sleeper RB for Denver's ZBS. Either great harmony between the press and the team or great insight by the columnist. It would be nice to have that type of columnist covering our team.

year in and year out, Denver can insert some unknown bum and make him a 1000 yard rusher. I hope shanahan taught kubiak the secret to this.

I don't get it ? No, that's not strong enough. It's a complete mystery to me !
I just saw some game film on this guy from his college days, and he's impressive. Real impressive.
And its not like the college he went to was one of those small schools totally off the radar. You know someplace with a name like South Central Vermont
State A & M. No, he went to Arizona. That's the PAC 10 conference !
And he played a lot. A helluva lot. This wasn't some undiscovered backup who only got in a handful of games at Arizona. He was a three year starter !
With all of the technology used on scouting this year. All the money they expend to finance these scounting departments, and the NFL drafts 3 running backs in the first round this year, but this guy goes totally undrafted.
I dunno, but I'm not so much convinced that the Broncos are that good at spotting talent, but more inclined to think that the NFL in general is lousy at hitting their fannies with both hands when it comes to identifying players and their chances to make it in the NFL.
 
I think that with the system Houston, Denver, and Atlanta run, there are some players valuable to them while those same players would be garbage on other teams. Take Greg Eslinger, for instace. He played center in a ZBS at Minnesotta, so he is a perfect fit in our systems and might be Tom Nalen's eventual replacement. Eslinger, however, is probably too small for most other teams.
 
Yeah, I believe 2 years ago, Quentin Griffin was the starting RB going into the season and that lasted about 3 games.

yeah, there is no reason to give Tatum and Ron Dayne the 10 count. They're prob. working their butt off in camp to make sure they dont get beat out by a undrafted rookie.

You're exactly right of course V, and I really don't give this guy more a 50-50
chance of starting in September. But my question is, how do 32 teams each
leave this guy on the Board 7 times in Aprils Draft ?

To follow up on Vinny--there are probably going to be some waiver wire guys available soon for depth such as:
