I dont see us taking 9 dline guys into the season. especially when some of the DE's can play DT. Plus I think we'll carry 3 QB's. We just traded for Cody Pickett and if he doesn't make the team that'll be a wasted pick. Or do we only have to give that up if he does make the roster. Sure I read that somewhere.

Picket only cost a 7th if he makes the roster. Not sold on your choices of backup LBs. But not sure at this time who I think will be the guys.

Also not sure Armstrong makes the final cut at WR.

I could also see Wand being gone if he is not starting. Just one of my crazy thoughts.:chicken:

Not bad, but I have to beleive that Charlie Anderson will make the 53 man roster. He was said to be competing with Orr for the starting SLB spot before he got injured this offseason.

Also, I beleive Pickett wont make the roster as well and if he doesnt, we dont lose anything because its a compensation - based pick. Could be wrong, anyone out there to back me up on this?

lol why am i not suprised to hear this from you?

I'd take off Alfred Malone and add Jake Shifino. He has looked exceptional so far in training camp and has been a KR in the past.

I thought about putting both of those guys on the PS and having Ramon Walker make the team.

WR was pretty hard with David Anderson and Donovan Morgan getting consideration too. I wouldn't be suprised if they carry six, but I like Malone because Weaver will see time at DE.

AFD1717...It's real funny you mentioned that because that's exactly what Casserly said. "Both guys would make the team (Walker and Williams). One would be active and one would be on the PR". Man you're good!

Does it really matter what Casserly says he's not even here anymore. :twocents:

It sounds like to me that John Walker is a realistic shot at the team, with him being the tallest CB and having a good showing at camp so far, and Williams is definately practice squad material. Maybe in a couple years he will be something for this team and if we have a large amount of injuries maybe he'll see some playing time but looks like practice squad for him.

i think we would keep another QB on the roster, at LB charlie anderson would make the roster over polk IMO, lundy and malone to the practice squad, the last wr spot would be a battle between armstrong, schifino, and ross

that is what im seeing right now

I'm pretty sure they only had two QBs in Denver the last couple of years, but it is always possible they could carry three.

Charlie Anderson was a tough one to leave off, but after Polk had 92 tackles and 4 sacks last year it would be tough to cut him too. I obviously don't have Anderson on this list, but I think he makes the team because he is a good special teamer as well as a LB.

They had 2 last year, but I think that we would keep Porter on the PS. Kubiak likes the kid and he isnt too bad.

I would add one more QB. I figure it's probably going to be Cody Pickett. I don't think Armstrong will make it but add Schifino.

Overall this looks like a pretty good roster. I think Charlie Anderson makes it at LB before Troy Evans, and it's a shame too, because I really like Evans. I saw him make some plays last year (one was a "shoestring tackle" that I believe kept the other team from making a 1st down) that showed he plays with alot of heart, even when the team was losing and not playing well. Anyway, just my :twocents:

NO way Evans does not make the team. and I think that Donovan Morgan beats out Derrick Armstrong this year.

Troy Evans is probably one of my least favorite Texans. He always seems to be around the play when he is in there. The problem is that even though he is always around the play, he is rarely the one making the play. I remember seeing him get run over by a couple of RB's when he tried to make the solo tackle. He is a good assist man, but when it comes to leading the play, I just don't see him doing it.

:hmmm: At least he was trying to make a tackle. That, unfortunately, is more than I can say about some of the other players. I won't mention any names, but the "swinging gate"/"matador" come to mind!

He is one of my favo players.

Good locker room guy, hard worker--gets along with different groups of players--and is like an extra coach on special teams. I thought he did OK with his limited playing time last year, but it is hard to evaluate given how cruddy everyone was on D.

The turk is likely going to bum me out this year.

Which three guys are you cutting? I thought real hard about Salaam, but the numbers didn't work. Starling is a long shot, and as Lork already mentioned - if we cut Luchey once (and he was still available to be re-signed) we're cutting him again. Joppru and Daniels are your backup FBs.

i posted eariler that i thought we might have a battle for the 5th WR spot between armstrong, schifino, and ross (assuming lewis gets a roster spot). but is this a pretty good battle in camp right now? i was reading another report saying how they have a couple of the guys fighting for mathis' KR duties. schifino is also the fastest guy right now according to the article. (Link to article

does this mean mathis is going to IR after the PUP? armstrong closer to being released since he is not a KR guy?

I see malone or TJ getting cut or moved to ps, malone cut, TJ at least moved to PS. with loverne or salaam taking one spot and schifano taking the other.

edit: probable salaam since pitts can play any spot on the line

TJ is not eligible for the practice squad--he was on the active roster for more than 9 games last year. Players also have to pass thru waivers and then signed to the practice squad--TJ would never get thru waivers without being claimed.

I don't know about the other two on your list but my gut tells me Luchey's days are numbered...

Does anyone know the dates of the cutbacks that are coming? and the number of players that each cut will bring the team to would also be nice to know. thx

IMO, the following 9 players have a good chance of making the 8-man practice squad. I am assuming that 1 of the three cornerbacks will make the 53-man squad, but have no clue which one.

Anderson, David - WR; Estelle, Mark - CB; Halterman, Aaron - TE; Porter, Quinton - QB; Brisiel, Mike - G; Rhodes, Damien - RB; Williams, Tramon - CB; Pettway, Kenneth - LB; Walker, John - CB

Nice Post. Only one of those guys was on my 53 man roster, so I'll add that to the original post as the Practice Squad and increase the debate.

Pickett also has one more year on a contract with the 9ers. Who pays for that if he doesn't make the team.

The Texans have 3 undrafted DEs on the roster, Alexander from Duke had the most hype. I see one of that group on the practice squad. Developing a more complete DE and not just a pass rusher, ie. Peak, Kalu, should be a priority.

O.K., I know this is early, and things can change, but here is my prediction on who makes the roster and who doesn't:

QB- Carr, Rosenfels, Porter (Pickett cut) 3
RB- Smith, Lundy, Morency, Taylor (Davis on IR) 4
FB- Cook (Luchey cut) 1
WR- Johnson, Moulds, Walter, Lewis, Anderson, Armstrong (Starling, Morgan, Schifino, Ross cut) 6
TE- Putzier, Daniels, Bruener, Joppru (Halterman cut) 4
T- Wand, Spencer, Winston, Wiegart, Salaam (Watton, Bedell cut) 5
G- McKinney, Pitts, Weary (Loverne, Briesel cut) 3
C-Flanagan, Hodgdon 2
K- Brown

29 on offense

I will work on Defense later today. I think those cuts will be harder.

I don't agree with your cuts...I think there was talk of us not keeping a true fullback, thought we probably will....and for some reason I feel like you're forgetting someone...but a good prediction none the less...and I hope we keep more than 3 gaurds

This sounds good, but the things I don't like (although they may happen):
1. If/when DD comes back, that would have us carrying 5 RBs
2. Too many WRs, and you forgot Mathis. I see us keeping 5 total, with mathis being 1 of them
3. TE too many here also. Unless Joppru can play at FB, I see him put on practice squad
4. Tackles looks ok, but 5 may be too many if we are only keeping 3 Guards. I guess Wiegart can play either

I'd personally like us to keep a lot less offensive players (especially WR and TE) and keep more depth at defensive positions, since it seems like we have a lot of potential there. Also, we seem to have a lot of trouble keeping our D healthy

I think Cook will be gone by third game with Joppru taking that spot. This allows another opening and I'm voting for Starling. One of the receivers will be on IR. Joppru may be a dark horse at full back.

I believe Joppru is being discussed as a backup FB not as the starter. And FB is a big part of the offense. Not like last year.

They will keep 4 TE this year. Maybe not so many OTs.

Then hopefully someone will step up at full back.:)
