"Who Is Your Favorite Pro Football Player and Why."​

Your favorite can be a player on the Texans Team or on another Team, it doesn't make any difference to me. ​

Your player MUST BE A CURRENT AND ACTIVE PLAYER on an NFL team! No former players!!!​

The contest will begin TODAY July 25, 2006 and will end on Friday August 11, 2006.​

Two "prizes" will be awarded. One prize for First Place and One prize for Runner-up! The First Place Prize Winner will have their choice of the following...​

I have over 300+ jersey and autograph cards in my collection and they are all good cards. I'm sure I can find something that you will like.​

Allright, I'll take a stab at it. My 50 words start below.

My favorite player is Mike Vick. He is possibly the most exciting breakaway player in the NFL, and makes defenses scheme differently for him. He is capable of winning any game at any time, and always picks himself up after a big hit. He IS the franchise. He constantly delivers huge performances, and his 40 yard run over minnesota in overtime to win the game is one of the greatest plays I've ever witnessed. Mike Vick is a winner, from Virginia Tech to Atlanta. Anyone who watched him in the national championship could testify to his heart....Vick never quits.

My favourite player is Julius Jones. I have followed Notre Dame football all my life and have never seen a runner like him. When he is healthy he could be one of the best backs in the league. Unlike most other athletes, Jones' desire to play football comes before money. Whenever he plays he plays with his heart. He also does great things for the community of Dallas since he has been signed with the team. There's nothing more that you could ask from a player that Julius does not give to his team.
 
Alrighty here it goes.

Andre Johnson is my favorite player because he is a playmaker who makes defensive backs look like their playing pee wee football and when he has the ball the secondary know whats going to happen, Touchdown Texans! He is also one of the most underrated Recivers in the NFL. He is one of the few players that gets Defensive Cordinators headaches preparing on how to stop him.

My favorite player is Jarrett Payton. His dad is one of the greatest backs of all time and I followed Payton through college while he was at Miami. He showed that he could get the job done when he was placed in as starting running back. As an undrafted free agent he made the Titans practice squad and was even moved up to the roster and got some playing time. For any undrafted free agent to make the team is quite spectacular. He scored against us and he showed he will be a solid #2 in the future.
 
You might expect me to say AJ or D-Rob, but my favorite player is Glenn Earl. He came in with a chip on his shoulder, sliding all the way to the sixth round. He may struggle at times, but has at times been the catalyst in our defense. One of my favorite plays of all times was when Earl dived for a pass and made an interception. He was one of the lone bright spots in our 2-14 year.
 
Whether you love him or hate him, David Carr has shown nothing but class and toughness throughout his first four years in the league. He has been battered and bruised, and continues to fight for his team. Some “professionals” would make a fuss about the lack of aid he has received to this point, but he continues to work hard and stay positive. While he still has plenty to prove, Carr has proven his merit to me with the way he deals with controversy, both on and off the field. Field General of the future southern powerhouse, David Carr.

My favorite player is Ed Reed, University of Miami Alum that go on to the NFL have had a bad reputation of being selfish-uncontrollable-headaches. Mr. Reed comes from "The U" my favorite football college, he's extremely mild mannered and well behaved. There was a situation in his contract year where it was about time for him to be re-sign and no deal had been worked out. Mr Reed stayed patience and didn't cause a big ruckus and was eventually signed to a LONG term deal for boatloads of money. Not to mention he's my favorite cause he is a heck of a DB (my former position). First DB to make DPOTY since like early 80s or late 70s or something .. I cant remember..

My favorite player in the NFL that is not on the Texan's roster is LaVar Arrington. Arrington brings the ability to change a game and is a special talent. He has top speed and the size of some linemen. He is fearless in tackles and relentless in his pursuits. He is not afraid to throw his body full force into the ball carrier. I also enjoyed watching him play because he devistated the Cowboys for a few seasons, which makes any Texan fan happy.

You said current player right? If not, Earl would be the easy choice for me, though Lee Roy Selmon and Lawrence Taylor would be my 2 runner ups.

Right now I would have to go with Michael Strahan though I hope Mario takes that role for me.
 
I like Carson Palmer...don't really know why, maybe because he helped the Bengals reach the playoffs....wouldn't mind if he became a Texan though :stirpot:

I've always like Brett Favre. My thoughts of his toughness can best be summed up by what Warren Sapp said about him...

"After sacking Brett and heading to the sideline to get some oxygen, I heard someone from behind me yell...'Hey, where are you going fatboy!' I turned around and it was Brett, standing there and glaring at me defiantly. I knew then that he was a different kind of quarterback."


This is too long to qualify, but thought it was a cool story none the less.

I didn't get to watch much of Joe Delaney back in the early 80's but then again his entire career was only 23 games. I'm sure most of the 40+ members of this MB remember him but maybe some of the younger ones don't.

Joe Delaney was born on October 30, 1958 in Henderson, Texas. He was drafted in the seconc round in 1981 by the Kansas City Chiefs after a career at Northwestern State University. He was an All-American in football and track while in college. He was the first Northwestern player to rush for more than career 3000 yards.

Delaney broke four Chiefs single season rushing records in 1981 and rushed for 1121 yards while being voted to the Pro Bowl. His second season was the strike-shortened season of 1982 in which injuries (a detached retina and leg injuries) limited him even more. He only ran for 380 yards that season.

On June 23, 1983, Delaney was at Chennault Park in Monroe, Louisiana, when he heard the cries of three young boys drowning in a pond. Delaney could not swim but jumped in anyway in an attempt to save them. One of the boys, a 6-year old boy, was able to make it out of the pond due to Joe's heroism. The other two boys, 11-year old Lancer Perkins and 11-year old Harry Holland, Jr., died with Delaney.

Delaney was married to his wife Carolyn and had 3 daughters, ages 7, 5 and 4 months old when he died.

Good post chuckm. I do remember him and his unforunate passing. What he did was the ultimate sacrifice for others.
 
I have been a Dunta Robinson fan since we drafted him. I believe he will be one of the best CB's in the league for years to come. Not only can he cover but he hits like a safety. I always admired him, but after he jumped all over P-burnt after the Willie Parker "two-hand no touch" last season he became my favorite. He would have never thrown his hands up like that and let Parker waltz into the endzone, he would have literally had to run Dunta over. I think he, along with Demeco and Mario will be the cornerstone of our D. :twocents:
 
My favorite player is Mario Williams. After being booed on stage by the typical Jet fans that didn’t even boo their own pick, I feel Mario has been sorely disrespected. He got treated unfairly like Eli Manning who said he would not play for San Diego. Did Mario pull some stunt like this or deserve this treatment? No. He's also been criticized, chastised, and taunted of not worthy of #1 status. I can't help but root for someone who has everything to prove and who has a BIG chip on their shoulder.

4th round, his teammate at ND Vontez Duff was picked in the 6th round.
 
Through out my tenure as a Cowboy fan, the team has faced savory and unsavory bumps through out the past 8 years of my viewership, but one man has seemingly stuck with me since his entrance to Dallas in 2002, safety Roy Williams. From the first time he walked on to the field under the web of the Dave Campo era, he soon stood above the rest, earning All-Rookie and Pro recognition. Not long after I soon discovered the nature of his bone chilling hits, to this day he remains the most coveted and loved player of the Dallas Cowboys.
 
My favorite player is Ben Watson, #84 of the New England Patriots. Watson has shown extraordinary talent and leadership at his position of TE. In the Jags/Pats game last postseason, he caught a wide left pass, shook three defenders, and ran it in for a TD (64 yarder I believe). Also, his play in the Broncos/Pats game last postseason was one that is cherished by all Pats fans. Champ Bailey intercepted Brady in the endzone, started running it back, but was clocked by Watson at the 1 yard line. I believe he is a future HOFer. (98 Words!)
 
Mine would be Mr. 5 picks, er...wrong thread.

Brett Favre is my favorite mighty warrior. He is the man who talked me into liking this game in the first place.

But I have said that enough that most everyone on here already know it.
Next was Jamie Sharper, until he left us. Polamalu rocks, I hope to add a currently rostered Texans player to this list again this season. :shades:
 
Don't know if 100 words will be able to explain this, but I'll give it a shot.


Class, skill, leadership, the will to win, respect for the game....to be a favorite player of mine, you must possess these qualities. Oh, and you can't be on a team I hate. In the past, this would fall on guys like Campbell and Elway. Now, the closest would have to be Favre. A classic example, in the game he played the day after his father died, he displayed all these attributes. His respect for the game and his teammates to play that game, to lead and will his team to victory. That says it all for me....Brett Favre.


Man, I sure had a lot more to say, but that'll have to do. 100 exactly.

Well, for me, it's ALL the Texans...but since we are required to narrow it down to one player, I picked the one I've admired alot longer that the Texans have been around. Only fair and balanced way I could do it.:cool: :shades:

my favorite player is brett favre. besides the fact that he has tons of passing records and a superbowl ring, he has the dedication and class of some of the greatest to ever play. he will play under any circumstances, even after the death of his father. what does he do? he throws for 399 yards and 4 TDs in the black hole known as the oakland coliseum, one of the most hostile venues for a visiting team. dedication, class, work ethic, talent, and spirit is everything brett favre emcompasses. a true gentleman on and off the field.

My wife has a life sized "Got Milk!" Poster of Farve in her classroom. Love the little stinker from Mississippi. Best arm on a QB I ever saw.
I always keep a sharp eye on the Texas guys.
I guess my favorite current player is Chriss Chambers. I own that Jersey. Only three I ever bought was Chriss Chambers, Lawerance Marshal Ford and Earls. I think if chambers was in a better system he would have a chance to catch Rice. To do what he's done so far with the QBs he's had, well he's earned my respect. Think A.J. could be one of those guys, we'll see. I also think alot of Sean Alexander. Easy to say now, but I thought he could be this good coming out. We'll see how well he dose without the fifty million dollar man absent the left side this year. Rooting this year for Eric Heitman of Katy. Starting center on a weak Frisco team...but this is Year Five. Vested Baby !!! GL EH.
 
I know it's a late entry, but here it is:

Chad Stanley. His legs were forged out of mythril recovered from a meteor that crashed to earth ten thousand years ago. In 1987, he rescued a cruise ship from utter disaster when it's engines gave out somewhere in the south pacific. He tied a rope to the smokestack and jumped off the boat. He swam like the winds, pulling the boat around Cape Horn and up to New York City. In 1992, an asteroid threatened to hit earth. NASA didn't tell us. Instead, they sent Chad to space and he punted the think all the way out to Neptune. He eats thumbtacks and tabasco sauce for breakfast, for lunch, he eats a barbed wire sandwich and washes it down with a quart of quadruple malt whiskey. His dinner usually consists of depleted uranium he gets from nuclear reactors he washes that down with a gallon of battery acid. The reason we never hear about Osama Bin Laden anymore is because Osama Bin Punted by Chad Stanley to the top of toronto's space needle. The US air force declared all airspace above chad stanley to be a no fly zone in case he starts punting.
