Bennie Joppru

Yup, this is important to the Texans because he was our 2nd round pick last year. As we all know, our O is progressing along very well - one thing missing is a TE who can be a descent blocker but also possession type receiver for us over the middle - that's Bennie. That's why we invested our very valuable 2nd round pick in him last year. This whole thing with him is a real mystery and really lacking for a full and complete disclosure/explanation. Believe me, I get no pleasure in saying this, but I'm thinking that there will be some litigation re. this situation. I hope not, I hope I'm wrong. Most of all, I just hope it gets back with the team this season after PUP and is able to begin his NFL career in earnest.

We have a few frequent posters who are lawyers. They can't all be bad.

I'm not sure I understand why there would be litigation though. Can you elaborate Nun?

One of the writers at hpf have said that the word around the Texans is that Joppru will be active at some point this season.

I believe we already have a decent blocker and possession type receiver his name is MURPHY. No knock to Joppru...Miller, or Bruener.

A poster at KFFL who is supposedly Joppru's brother, posted a while back that he would likely be back on October 18th. Take it with the proverbial grain of salt of course. I sure would like to get a look at what he can do for our offense. If he can't go this season we may be forced to look at a TE on day one of the draft. Heath Miller, anybody?

until i see him on the field though i can't assess that. They should get him into games before Joppru comes back so we know what we have in him.

You are right, they need involve him more in the offense not just use him on special teams.

No, I do not have any specific knowledge about Joppru's injury situation and
litigation. But besides being deeply frustrated as I'm sure he must be, I have
a hunch that he will also be somewhat disgruntled if he can't play this year,
and I don't think he is going to be activated after PUP and given the opportunity to play. And if he can't play (for the second year in a row), I
think he will be pointing a finger at some people for what's happened to him
since we drafted him.

Well, I'm not sure you can point a finger at anyone for tearing your groin.

I hear that he is coming back but I won't hold my breath. If he plays he plays. I'm pulling for the guy. I'm sure he is bummed about the whole thing but I doubt he blames the Texans.

Many, many moons ago (and make that moons as in decades), when I was
young and competing athletically, I had a severe groin injury. This was not football, but Track. Anyway, I personally know something about this type of injury and they can be severe to be sure. It cost me an entire Track season. But with rest I recovered and I was playing football a few months later that fall.
That should have been Jopprus experience, especially since the advancement
in medical technology over the decades and him being a professsional/NFL athelete where he should have gotten far better pro med help that a mere amateur jock like myself. His origional injury was just bad luck to be sure, but somebody who was involved in his recovery/rehab treatments and or surgery (I think he may have eventually had surgery ?), screwed up. Whether or not the Texans could somehow have any liablity (legal speaking), in that situation - I don't know. But Joppru may very well think someone is to blame.
But most of all, I to hope he is playing for us this year and ready for an entire season of football next year. He deserves a little luck at this point !

Joppru had the muscle detached from the bone fully, so his injury was quite severe. The surgery was to re-attach it from what I understand. It wasn't a simple tear.

was it the same muscle he tore last year?

His current injury is an extension of this same injury. It really never healed in time for the regular season.

where is texansfight when you need him. if he were here we could all get together and sue joppru for not performing up to expectations.

I'm not sure if any litigation would involve the Texans organization. From what I remember Joppru first saw Texans team doctors, and then went to see a specialist in California. It was the specialist that determined the extent of the tear, and I believe it was the specialist that reattached it. If there was any kind of injury settlement it would likely involve that specialist. As Vinny said earlier, Joppru's injury was very severe, and wasn't a simple tear of the groin muscle. I'd expect we'd hear soon whether or not he'll play this season, but Casserley was optimistic about his return. Hopefully we'll get to see him on the field soon.

Heath Miller looks to be a great TE. He was a very good blocker from what I've seen too.

charlie casserly said this morning on 610 radio that after the bye week joppru is gonna start practicing, he said that he is healthy and has been running and stuff. i didnt type it down perfectly but anywho, i know it is good news because he said jops alright, thats the main part i remember
Hey, that's great news. And thanks for the update 3rd-Coast. Great news for Bennie and for our offensive: if we can get a ligit NFL type TE (one who can
block and catch the ball), it's one step closer to having a real formidible O -
we got a pretty good start on that already.

Yep I heard Casserly this morning too. Apparently Joppru has been running but cannot practice with the team until after week 6 (after this Titans game). They have until week 10 to make him active or he goes on the IR.

Murphy ain't ligit???

Its almost the time when teams decide to shift players from the Pup'ed list to either the roster or the IR. So was just wondering, what's the word on Joppru?
