Any McFarlane Sportspicks Collectors Out There?

Luv_ya_blue

Truth, Love, Faith & Obedience - Christianity 101
Just wondered if anybody out there was an active collector of McFarlane Sportspicks?

Got any favorite figures?

I've got a pretty good collection. Here are some of my favorites...

Brian Urlacher--Series Two Regular Blue and White Variant
Eddie George--Series One Regular Blue, White Variant and Super Bowl Special Edition
David Carr--White, Blue and Super Bowl Special Battle Red
Jeff Bagwell--White, Red and All-Star Special Blue w/Goatee
Roger Clemens--White, Red and All-Star Special Edition
Andy Pettite--Yankees and Astros
Roy Oswalt--Regular and Variant
Lance Berkman--Red, White and BLC Special Edition

:fans: :texflag: :killerbs: :astros:

Jeff Bagwell - Series 8 (Regular edition)
Nolan Ryan - Cooperstown Collection (Rangers edition)
Ricky Williams - Series 10 (Regular edition)
Priest Holmes - Series 6 (Red/Red variant)
Priest Holmes - Series 9 (White/Red variant)
Roy Williams - Series 10 (Blue star variant)
Troy Aikman - Legends Series 1 (Regular edition)

Mine have to meet a few qualifications:
Be a present/former member of the Astros or Cowboys.
Be a former Texas Longhorn.
Have a variant of that team's uniform. I made an exception for Nolan in his Rangers uniform because he's my favorite athlete...ever.

So there are more that I still need to get...

Craig Biggio
Nolan Ryan 2
Billy Wagner (If I can find the Astros variant)
Roger Clemens (Any/All of them)
Roy Oswalt
Andy Pettite
Lance Berkman
Drew Bledsoe (Latest series though I doubt I'll pursue it)
Emmitt Smith ($$$$$$$$$$$)
Julius Jones

No interest in guys that spent limited time with those teams (Randy Johnson, Carlos Beltran, etc.).

I've got the 6" Rangers edition from the first Cooperstown Series. The one I get from the third Cooperstown Series will have the Astros variant.

The 12" are too big to put on top of my desk. :)

I got Bledsoe and Carr!!

:logo:

( not a collector though... gifts. It took me awhile to figure out what you were talking about )

EDIT:

I just took a close look at Bledsoe... I cannot look at the football for too long before I want to try and break it open to get to the chocolate inside. LOL... ( ehhh nevermind. )

HUGE, You'll probably want to consider Drew Bledsoe.........coming out sometime around September.

Right now I have three David Carr figures, one each in Red, White, and Blue uniforms. That's it for the moment. I look at them all the time and I did buy a Joey Harrington figure when those were out. I turned him into a Dan Pastorini but IMO (with apologies to Dom Capers for using his trademark phrase) I didn't quite "execute" and so I pitched it. I've been studying up on how those custom figures are done because I'm thinking that's probably the only way I'll ever get me a Greg Bingham, Robert Brazile, Elvin Bethea, or Curly Culp. I'm pretty sure that we'll be seeing an Earl Campbell pretty soon and a Warren Moon. I was real excited to see that they were going to start making some classic players.

Did you purchase the Nolan Ryan Astros Throwback? They've got the regular 6 incher and a 12 in Astros Version as well.
It's very cool

My wife just bought me the 12 inch figure for my birthday, very sweet. I was shocked, she saw me looking at it a while back and remembered and bought it. I didn't have a clue. Luv_ya, where did you find the Carr blue jersey? I have the white, and actually just got my batle red in the mail yesterday from the seller, but I didn't know there was a blue. I clicked on the links you posted, but all I found were the red and white.

I saw that. But I'd probably lump Bledsoe in the same group as Randy Johnson and Carlos Beltran. They didn't/haven't spent enough time with the team for me to give them serious consideration. I may not even pick up the Julius Jones if he doesn't stick past this season.

If they make an Earl Campbell with a tear-away jersey, it goes straight to the top of my list.

Here's a link to look at the Blue Variant Carr.

http://cgi.ebay.com/MCFARLANE-NFL-L...ryZ48978QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Actually, I used to buy these things by the case and sold them on Ebay. In one case a couple years ago (the Carr figs are pretty old) I got a Carr regular (white), a Carr variant (blue) and a Carr (blue) with a packaging error on it. It didn't have the sticker on the front of the bubble. No big deal, just makes it a little more rare. I actually bought THREE sets of the Super Bowl specials. My wife, son and I stood in the McFarlane line when the SB came to Houston. So I've got the complete set plus an error Carr and two more battle reds to boot.

Thanks for the link, Luv_ya.

No problem Tex.
I meant to ask you...
Where did you buy your Carr Battle Red from? Ebay or from an online store. You may have already answered that question, not sure.

It was from e-bay. I have also bid on the blue Carr variant that you gave me the link to.

I like the Sportspicks because they are so realistic. I'm waiting for the "David Carr on his butt" variant, though. LOL

Cool tex.
Good luck!

Is the Carr Variant the only one that is on your holy grail.
Personally I REALLY WANT a No Helmet Eddie George!!!!!!
Want a No Helmet Urlacher too!!!

Can't see spending $200+ on it. I found one for less than a hundred bucks two years ago and was flat broke. I've kicked myself many times for not buying the Eddie.

Actually, I am considering selling off my other figures (other than my Roy Oswalt and 2 - hopefully 3 soon - Carrs) and just focusing on Houston players and my favorite players (Urlacher, for example). I have a fair amount of figures, I just recently starting pulling them out of storage which includes parent's attic, dad's shop, etc. They are actually all in good shape, the problem is that almost all of my figures are the standard issues, only a couple of variants, so I'm thinking they're not worth a whole lot.

Hey I just realized that you were listed as being from "Old River, TX"...is that right?

Yes sir, I lived in Mt. Belvieu for 7 yrs before my parents were bought out, been in Old River pretty much ever since.

HARDIN??
NO WAY!!

I am a LIBERTY PANTHER tried and true!
And yeah we've hijacked the thread...but it's my thread anyway so it's ok.
I think you are confusing Moss Bluff with Moss Hill. The "Hill" is north of hardin but the "Bluff" is south of Liberty...1/2 way between Liberty and Anahuac.

Yeah I caught my slip up, but you must have read the post before it was edited. Very very sorry. I can understand all of the upper case letters, I'd be yelling too! LOL We are probably supposed to be sworn enemies since I went to Barbers Hill. :stirpot: :)

Luv_ya_blue said:
Nope...
My only "sworn" enemies are the Dayton Broncos!!! I didn't play against "The Hill" in school. I went to battle with the Bronc's a few times though. I actually did my student teaching at BH. It was a nice experience.

It surprises me that you never played against us, were we not in the same district?

We are now. As a matter of fact, I spent three years teaching and coaching in Cleveland in `01-`04 and we played against BH. We whooped you guys at basketball but got schooled at FB. When I was in school (JH & HS) we didn't play you guys. We were 4-AAAA and then dropped down to 3-AAA. We may have played you guys my Senior year, but I can't swear to it.

Got my knee blown out on the field in Cleveland my Jr. year. A big fat lineman fell on me from the outside while I was propped up and "pop."

That sucks, did you get to come back for your Senior season?

I've got:

Jim Brown
Troy Aikman
David Carr
Tom Brady

Andy Pettite
Roger Clemens
Lance Berkman
Craig Biggio

I take mine out of the box though. They look better that way.
