NFL.com's Preseason Primer

Check out NFL.com's preseason primer for us. It raises an interesting question that I thought we should talk about. The Special Teams, which have not been so special. Our big time kick returner is hurt and should be ready by the start of the season barring setbacks in his broken foot, but our punter and kicker are the problem. I know alot of people like Kris Brown hell he is from Texas, but he has never been a truly reliable kicker. Are there better options out there? There are always kickers and rookies that are out there, not sure on how they fit, but are they not worth a try. Fillopovic the guy challenging Stanley has a much bigger boot, but not near the accuracy Stanley has. Stanley is almost money if we are punting on a shortened field.

An option that I found interesting was the way the Patriots scouted the kickers in the AFL. These guys have to be accurate and power may be able to be worked on. So what do you guys think should we start looking for new kickers or are we just fine?

good breakdown on the kicking situation. Brown and Stanley have gotten passes as being acceptable at thier positions, but with the warts described above. My gut feeling is that we have another year of these two relatively unchallenged, but as the team's expectation increases we will need a more consistent field goal kicker and punter who at least on occassion can change field position with his leg.

I think the Texans had more pressing matters this off-season than our kicking game. Hopefully next off-season we will be so comfortable that our kicking game will become our major off-season concern.

Not sure who the genius was that signed Kris Brown through 2009. I have no idea how much bonus we are paying him in 2008 and 2009.

I am kind of getting the feeling that someone tampered with Feren's spreadsheets and hid fiscal years 2008 and 2009 from view and calculations. Must have been Palmer, much like the Clintonian's taking off with the W's.

Dude.

It doesn't matter. This year, we're going to score a touchdown every time we touch the ball. No need for a punter at all.

And our kicker is only going to be kicking extra points and kick-offs. We need two guys. One guy that's money on the XP and then another guy that always puts it into the endzone.

19-0, baybeeee!!!!!!!

Funny, I always thought our kicker was really good, until I saw his stats for last year in comparison to other kickers. Guess he did much worse than I thought. Guess you don't notice these things when your QB is laying on his backside all day and your defense is playing ole.

He got rid of Capers and gave us Mario. Get off his case some! LOL

I've never been a big fan of Kris Brown. I was banging my head when he was given a new contract. So, do I feel we need a new kicker? For sure, and I'd like to see that happen this year rather than next.

:poker:

Considering past management does anyone else wonder if Kris Brown was told to blow some FG's, especially in the Bush Bowl?

Brown was very inconsistent last year, but that's the least my our worries imo. Hopefully, he rebounds nicely.
