Matchup: Dunta Robinson against Randy Moss

This is a serious matchup, and Dunta's A game better be in full effect. After doing an excellent job against Porter last week, he faces the most dangerous reciever in the NFL.

So guys, of course we'll see a LOT of double teams, but how do you think Dunta will hold up?
 
I think, athletically, he'll hang in there just fine. Robinson is fast, jumps well, looks to have good instincts, and has good hands. Plus, he closes very fast and cuts sharply. Moss is a veteran receiver who will get his, though. If the Texans provide solid safety help, I think Robinson can keep Moss in check -- that's a relative term, however.
 
I say we go with only 9 guys on offense, so we can use the other two as constant blitzers on a 13 man defense. :thumbup
 
I think the Vikes would be licking their chops if they thought the Texans were going to match a rookie DB up against Moss.

That is an obvious mismatch. I look at this as a real problem area. If the Texans aren't able to get a pass rush, Culpepper has time and well it'll be a problem.

They will double-team him and while I don't think he'll be shut out if they can contain him well that's all you can ask for. I think Capers is a good enough coach that's he's dealt with this before. After all Marvin Harrison is a pretty darn good receiver and they play them twice a year.

This is a team you don't want to play catch with though. They are capable of putting up big offensive numbers.

I think the Texans' secondary matches up fairly well against Minnesota. The Texans will generally try to matchup Glenn on the #2 WR, i think- when they are able to double Moss with Robinson and Coleman. The real problem will be when unique motion and packages create situations where Moss is singled or running through a zone of LBs and Safeties, or, when the play has broken down and Culpepper is scrambling around... I think the result of those plays, along with turnovers will determine whether we win this one or not.
 
Dunta and Aaron both have the speed to run with Moss, so while I'm cautious I'm not totally worried about between the 20s. I'm more concerned about how we're going to stop Moss in the red zone where height will really come into play.

Who is their starting RB for this week? I want to say Moe Williams, but I could have just made that up in the back of my brain. Bennett and Smith are both out so if we can stop the run without committing too much up front we might be able to get away with more coverage on the WRs/more blitzers to pressure Culpepper..
 
The defensive line and the linebackers can help Dunta by getting some pressure on Culpepper.
 
I've seen Moss make plays with DB's step for step with him and draped all over him. The guy is a monster receiver. I would not discount the Texans DB's ever but he can make anybody look silly.

The key is pressure on the QB. It all starts with him. And he's LB size so they better get a helmet on him and often.

Should be a fun game.

Culpepper has been sacked as follows Cowboys-2, Eagles-4 & Bears-4 and interestingly in those games has fumbled Cowboys-1, Eagles-2 & Bears-2.

Walker and Babin just need to tool their replacement right tackle for 4 sacks and 2 fumbles. Sounds easy doesn't it?
 
Did I miss something? Won't the matchup more likely be Moss Vs. Glenn? Did Capers say they were going to play Dunta on him.. I hope not.

Look at the matchup on the main board. Glenn is on Burleson.
 
Most likely you will have to double team him like every other team we play, cause if you dont expect him to have a big day. Thats what makes us dangerous you double moss we throw to Cambell, Burleson, or Robinson. If you play your safties deep on Moss's side we run the right. Its hard to defend us but if you get constant pressure on Pepp it will shut down big bombs. I think that will be the key to beating us Pressure Pressure and more Pressure.

he was a 1st round nfl draft pick. He knows when to step up his game. Instinct will take over for Dunta and I bet he has a big day.

It will still be Randy Moss vs. a rookie...look how Gallery played in the game against us last week, and he was the second overall pick.
 
I saw dunta in the texans game against the cowboys and he OWNED Meshawn. I like him very well, better than hall at this point. But you got to be relistict he is playin against Randy Moss, hes goin to take advantage of the Rookie if he has a great game stopping moss in the redzone and whatnot i'll be very surprised. He's gonna have a long day.
 
I am not so worried about the deep pass as I am about the 5 yard line toss-up pass that Moss always outleaps the defender to get.
 
Dunta against Moss... That would be a nightmare.. Moss is a awesome player and Dunta, who is very good, does not have the experience to cover Moss. I think Glenn would wrap him up tho.. I could work with a Glenn cover with Dunta or Coleman backup...

I'm sorry, but no one stops Moss. He is the most invincible reciever in the league. Everybody else (even Terrell Owens) is a distant second. What we have to do is stop the QB. Against the Eagles, the Vikings O-line wasn't very good. They pressured Culpepper and made it very hard for him while also keeping him in the pocket. That's what we need to do Sunday. Take care of the QB and we can contain Moss.
 
not just blitz...blitz the middle and have babin and wong contain the outside...then deep zone coverage...if we can do what phili did to the vikes we have a very good chance of pulling off the upset...especially if minnesota is overlooking us

According to the matchup page, it's rookie Mewelde Moore starting in the Vikings backfield.
 
Also, I hope to see the D go for the ball in Peppers hands. He seems to have alot of fumbles. At least get one that way.
 
I think the Texans are smart enough to know that Moss is virtually unstoppable when he's on his game. He can outrun, out jump and out play most any corner. So the assertion is correct. Stop the ball from getting to him....if the QB can't throw it he can't catch it.

And he tends to sulk when things don't go his way...I've seen him take plays off which is unfortunate for such a great player.

I almost choked when he got passed up by all those teams when he was drafted.

When I was watching the Vikes Eagles game they brought up Culpepper and his fumbling. They should some stats on the screen comparing McNabb and Culpepper over a certain number of games and Culpepper had more than twice as many fumbles as McNabb.
 
I'm telling you Colemen will play ahuge part in this game because forgive me if i'm wrong he's the tallest DB we have.
 
I guess it's a plan to put a tall DB on Moss but he can outjump a deer I think.

Better Coleman than the rookie though.
 
I still like the idea of jamming Moss at the line of scrimmage with Brown or Earl and having our CB go stride for stride with Coleman helping out deep. Also, LONG offensive drives to eat up clock with points every drive. For this game, if a touch down is in doubt in the red zone, I say go for 3. Kris is 9/10 in field goals. I would like to see every possible hat on the ball by defense and punish the runner or reciever.
 
This is a game that I hope the coaches are planning on taking advantage of the out of pocket rules. Once Culpepper steps out of the pocket, the 5 yard contact rule is out the window. As soon as he steps out, whoever is on Moss needs to chuck the crud out of him until Culpepper puts the ball in the air.
 
Thats the way I understood the rule too, but there have been some calls on DBs when the QB goes out of the pocket. There was on in the Monday Night game that was called against the Chiefs.

Allow me to remove all questions on whether or not D. Rob can cover Randy Moss. In a word....."NO". I really like D. Rob but simply put....there is no way in hell any DB can cover Moss alone. This reminds me of something which happened with my other team....the 0-3 Buffalo Bill's. Former Green Bay Packer and Buffalo Bill's Hall of Fame WR James Loften had just beaten a young DB on a long TD. As the DB jumped and cussed in the end zone after being burned the smooth Loften turned to him and said....."Relax kid, I've beaten a lot better DB's than you'll ever be!" Hopefully Mr. Moss won't be repeating those words to D. Rob! lol:

I dont even know one guy on your D Line (but thats why i come here to learn more about the oponent). Even though there has been significant pressure on pepp he has been unbelievable, just imagine if he gets time. :popcorn:

Gary Walker, DE here but would be DT anywhere else, was a pro-bowler until injured last year. Seth Payne was off to a probowl NT spot until injured last year--sense a trend here--still recovering but getting better every game. Robaire Smith is an up and coming huge run stuffer with great presence for knocking down passes. Not really their job to get pressure in a 3-4 but we'll see.

Wong has done well. Not top notch speed for OLB but very smart and very high effort. Will likely be spelled in obvious passing situations by Peek a second year player with all sorts of aggression aimed at QB's.

Martin played well for us last year as a fill in for Payne. He wasn't Payne's calibur but was very solid, particularly against his old team the Patriots--frankly surprised we didn't try to keep him.
 
Oh thats right, Walker was taken in the expansion draft i think. And i have heard of Payne, so i'm guessing hes back and playing well. We hardly ever face the 3-4 Defense so it will be interesting to see how Pepp plays.

Its intristing you mention that Martin did well against his X-Team because this weak he said he will need no extra motivation because he's goin up againt the texans who he played for. Right now we boast the # 10 run defense, we have a good d line for stopping the run, and throwing Martin in there for more plays should help us. We kinda got pushed around by the Bears, but did well vs Dallas and Phili.

Well, kind of. In total yards yes, but that is due to lack or rushing attempts rather than stopping people. Houston has given up 4.8 ypc and 3 TD's in 4 games--Minnesota has given up 4.7 ypc and 4 TD's in 3 games.

I don't know that Steve Martin has any hard feelings. Maybe someone can post something on this point.

The Texans gave Steve Martin an opportunity to showcase his talents and get another contract. I haven't heard that the Texans didn't want him back. Martin may have just felt that the Vikings were a better fit, with a better shot at a Superbowl and taken their offer. I'm sure he will still want to do well against the guys he went to work with each day, but it may be different than the New England situation, where they let him go and he thinks they didn't deal fairly with him.
 
I dont know much about it just what he said. When the vikes signed him i thougth the texans wanted him back but he went to the vikes maybe i'm wrong and they didnt want him back :confused:

I think Dunte will be super cool after the ego boost of last game. He seems to learn from mistakes and he just might pick a cherry off the Moss tree. If so, that might be enough to turn game especially if everyone else does their job. I am picking a Texans "upset". :headbang:
 
The kid's gonna get smoked by Moss at least twice for big plays or huge penalties. No doubt about it. Just about EVERYONE does, no matter how long they've been around. The real measure will be at the end of the day, looking at how the matchup went at the "big picture" level. How will Dunta bounce back after getting burned? So far, I think he's done well in those situations. If he only gets burned by Moss a couple of times, he gets an "A" from me. If he gets a pick (or two, like last week!), then the kid should move immediately to the front of the pack for Defensive Rookie of the Year consideration based on what he's done so far. (Naturally, that "so far" is a big qualifier, considering it'll only be 5 weeks in!)
 
If you guys can pressure Pepp consistentally, it will prevent your rookie from getting burned, if culpepper has all day 2 guys can be gaurding him and they will still get burned. Its also gonna depend on what kind of safety help he will get. Also if we cant get the running game goin with our rook it will be easier for you to focus on shutting down the passing game.
