Which of the scenarios listed above do you think is most likely to happen ? And Why ?

I picked the defense going up in the ranks, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the offense close behind. Overall, I see a huge improvement at both ends of the football

:homer:

DD needs to stay healthy first.

If AJ gets 15 TD's then I am sure Moulds, Putzier, DD, Walters, Mathis and Armstrong could scrape 10 amongst themselves. IMO.

Good poll, man! :thumbup tough one, too!

I picked "Offensive Line: under 35 Sacks", because it's probably the one that I'm most hopeful will happen. After four seasons and 205 sacks, I'm sick of watching our QB take a pounding game after game.

I picked D.Carr 25 TD's...With our revamped Offense i think He can have a special season...

I voted for the sacks one, although I can see several of them coming true:

1) Carr throwing for 25+ TDs could definitely happen, largely depends on how much they throw vs. run in the red zone.
2) Davis running for 1300 yards I don't really see happening, even with Kubiak's system I have my doubts that he can stay healthy for that kind of production, and I think they will not hesitate to give Davis ample rest and run with our other RBs, which will inevitably take away from Davis' yards.
3) A.J. 15 receiving TDs isn't very likely, as good as he is 15 receiving TDs is quite a rare feat and I doubt we throw the ball enough for one guy to get that many TDs.
4) D-Rob 6 INTs is not overly likely either. It is very difficult to guess how many INTs someone will end up with, and I doubt opposing QBs will throw the ball in Dunta's direction very much at all until we can get a better #2 CB opposite him. As long as Petey and PBuch are playing with Dunta I don't see Dunta getting thrown at more than 2-3 times a game and getting more than 3-4 INTs for a season.
5) Top 12 offense is a little too lofty of an expectation for me, I can see top 21 or so and getting out of the bottom 1/3 of the league but I don't see getting in the top 1/3 yet.
6) Top 15 defense is also a little too lofty of an expectation. Likewise I can see us getting into the top 21 or so but not quite this high. Both of these will be contingent on each other though, a high-ranking offense likely means our defense is being kept off the field a decent amount and is being effective when it is on the field and vice versa. These two characteristics are ideally not independent of each other.
7) Jerome Mathis 3 KR TD. Not sure he'll be healthy for enough of the year for this to happen. I would love to see it but I don't know.
8) Offensive line under 35 sacks. I definitely expect this to happen. I think we will run the ball much more effectively which will help us move the ball and avoid obvious passing situations and I think we will have a much better offensive scheme which will do likewise and give Carr more options to do something with the ball.

I went with Dunta and the 6 INT's. More pressure on the QB should hopefully produce more turnovers for the defense and this guy should be in the middle of all that. :superman:

I voted for DD hitting over 1300 yds. The only "if" (and it's a big one) is if he can stay healthy for 13+ games. If he can he'll get it.

Good poll though. Makes you think. :hmmm:

Kubiak's specialty is offense so I'm looking forward to an improved offense in general that will rank close to the top 10. I think the defense will improve but we have lot's of new players on defense and we're young on that side of the ball. With veterans like Moulds, Flanagan, Putzier, and the returning cast I think we should see a much improved offense.

I think they can all happen. I think the OL only allowing 35 sacks will be the easiest thing to happen this year after how much we improved it and Mike Sherman and all.

Is it bad that i dont think ANY of it is going to happen?

Nope. I think they are all pretty lofty goals given last years performance.

I went with Top 15 defense. I think the transition to the 4-3 along with the additions of Weaver, DeMeco, and that Mario feller will pay dividends right away.

i picked DD 1300 yards because he got 1000 yards with a horrible line as a rookie and with an improved line he could do it IF healthy

I voted for the O-line giving up less than 35 sacks. With the new talent and better coaching, I think that's easily achievable. I almost voted for DD rushing for over 1300 yards, but he always seems to be hurt (not out of games, but nicked up a lot more than other players).

I'm gonna go out on a limb, lay down and ease backward to the end, grab the tip, slowly ease off and hang from one finger......then say we'll have a top 12 offense.

I went with the O'Line option, as stated on the previous page, the amount of sacks that this team has given up in its' short time is pathetically insane and inexcusable. No QB should ever get pounded like David Carr has been over his career...

Had the O'Line not been there, I would have taken the Domanick Davis option (if he is given the odd down off on the sideline and could stay healthy which he should if not used on EVERY down)...

I picked offensive line.

The staff is not going to allow that to happen. It would be a death sentence to all of them. And it is the easiest thing to fix that is under your own control.

Carr, DD, AJ, Mathis, etc. Could get hurt.
The defensive rankings do not matter to anybody important, nor can you really control it.

I think most if not all will happen, which will make us shoe ins for top 12 offense...... so that's where my vote went.

I will put our defensive front 7 up against any team in the league right now, I'm still a little worried about our #2 CB and the coverage abilities of our S. I trust that with our front 7 and with our new scheme and such we'll be able to put much more pressure on opposing QBs and help cover up some of our DB deficiencies, but I'm not sure I'm ready to say I expect a top 15 defense. I definitely expect a top 20-21 (in the top 2/3 of the league), not sure on the top 1/2 of the league though. I also expect our offense to improve (not into the top 12 though), but our offense's ability to sustain drives will also greatly impact our defense's ranking, and in turn our defense's ability to get stops and get the offense back on the field will help our offensive rank. Our schedule can also help out our defensive rank. We do have the Colts twice as always, and the Eagles, Giants, and Patriots will put up decent offensive numbers, but we also get the Raiders, Browns, Titans x2, Jaguars x2, Jets, and Bills that all have pretty enemic offenses and the Cowboys, Dolphins and Redskins are decent but generally not going to put up huge numbers.

If the offensive line does give up more than 35 sacks, can the other things happen? (like DC getting 25+ TDs, A.J 15 rec. TD's, or our offense being ranked higher than 12th overall?)

If Carr is taking over 2 sacks a game I'll be surprised if any of the other things happen (on this team).

Make that 2.5--2 would be pretty darn good at this point.

15 TD's for AJ is high--not unachievable, but high--I think only 2 guys have done it in the last three years--Harrison and Moss, but don't quote me.

Toward the end of last season and the beginning of the off-season I thought that bringing a balanced improvement to the team would be a two year process - I thought there was too much to fix in one off-season. I thought they'd focus on one side of the ball or the other this first year and the other side next year. After the Kubiak hire to be specific, this year I thought they'd jack up the defense with new personnel and schemes and then make marginal improvements to the offense through better coaching, schemes, and player evaluation.

As it appears now, before pads, it looks like they've made drastic improvements to both sides of the ball in personnel and coaching. I am very pleasantly surprised - I didn't think they make could make so many positive changes so fast. Mea culpa.

There were 9 RBs with 1300+ rushing yards last season.
There were 8 CBs with 6+ interceptions last season.
There were 3 QBs with 25+ passing TDs last season.
Zero receivers caught 15+ TDs last season.
Zero returners ran 3 kicks back for TDs last season.

Among the players, Domanick has the "easiest" goal.

15 teams finished in the top 15 in defense (no kidding).
12 teams finished in the top 12 in offense (duh).
17 teams allowed 35 sacks or less (including 11 of the 12 playoff teams).

Not sure why the bar is lower for the defense, considering that's the side of the ball where the top FA signing and top 2 picks in the draft went.

It's very interesting how that works out. Just goes to show how important the line really is, and how Capers neglecting it was pretty much what sealed our fate last season.

I think this is a huge stat....especially the clarifying part at the end!

Our defense has talent, and we spent our top 2 picks on more of it... plus we have Drob.

I could see alot of the options happening..but I think the most likely is our defense ranking in the top 15 by the end of the year.

I was going to vote for all of the above, but couldn't find a button for that!!:yahoo:

:redtowel: mmmm, koolaide! :texflag: I dig it, man!

If we pulled off all of the above, we'd be a playoff team...maybe with a first round bye. But looking at the stats Lucky posted, I'd say getting half of those would still be an awesome season. Especially for us! We can always hope, though.

I'm thinking that we might have a chance to sneak into the top 10 offenses, if everything clicks halfway through the ywar. The second half of our schedule is a lot easier on our offense than the first half, so if they can survive the first half, our offense will be allright.

I picked that, just because some of those other ones are insane to think about getting. AJ 15 TDs?!?! They'd start blanketing him again before NFL defenses would allow that to happen. Dunta with 6 picks? It'll be like last year all over agin, with only Peyton Manning having the guts to throw at him in clutch time (of course, he learned his lesson in that battle red game when Dunta picked him off).

So out of those choices, I'm gonna go with our offense in the top 12. We can make the top third of this league, can't we?

The deal with Domanick is that all 9 backs finished with 15 games or more. Most of them started all 16. Davis so far looks like a 12 game RB.

The deal with fewer sacks and getting onto the playoffs has a slight skew to it. Playoff teams are winning teams. Winning teams are not passing as much as they are running, thus fewer sacks can be expected.

Even with the power passing teams, you are not passing as much from long situations, thus needing less time in the pocket to throw creating fewer sacks.

This does not correlate directly to the Texans. Just throwing it out there ( or in here )

I picked the same and I feel the same exact way about this choice. Plus if the OL really keeps under 35 sacks, AJ is likely to get his 15 td's, Carr is likely to throw 25 td's, and so on through the rest of the scenarios. This is the key ingredient. The defense would even be impacted by good OL play because the offense would stay on the field longer.

i would of said D-rob 6 ints. but i dont think we have a good 2nd CB to help d-rob, so teams are gonna throw away from him again, if they even get passes of that is.

GO MARIO GO

I went with D-Rob getting 6 INT's. DD going for 1300 seems to be most likely for me, but as mentioned his durability clouds that one a bit.

I voted for Car to have 25 TD's...

I'm not seeing that so much....
