Vince Young stories

I remember back in '05 I was walkin' down the street and Austin, and I got some bubble gum stuck in my hair. Vince Young was walking by, opened up his backpack, took out a jar of peanut butter, and got that gum right out of my hair.

I don't think Mario woulda had peanut butter. He would have just used scissors or somthin'.

You guys are honestly telling me that with the number 1 pick overall.. at that 1 pick. You would have taken Young. Don't get me wrong he's an athlete. Personally I don't like him but he wasn't a number 1 overall pick.

I guess your safe with that comment for the next 4 years or so.........Seeing how he has not played a down in the NFL.

I think we made a great choice with Mario.

I remember when Vince beat the dynasty of USC, in one of the greatest games ever played in college football-- possibly solidifying himself as the best college football QB ever to play, silencing any critics.. Then, is hometown team, the Texans, who had a quarterback who didn't have one winning season in four years, passed on this match made in heaven. Instead, the City of Houston's arch nemesis, Bud Adams, drafted Young with the third pick, looking to distrot Texan fans all over. What's next? We shall see!

i'll never forget watching madison high school highlights a few years back, seeing vince run through the defense like a man among boys, wondering if he could do the same thing in college. luckily, he went to ut where they're not so conservative with the offense and his athletic abilities were on display every week, making each pass or run look so effortless. i'll never forget the night against usc, when he showed the nation who the real heisman winner was, again looking so poised and undeterred. i wish him well in the nfl.

Once upon a time Vince Young fans everywhere finally came up for air, the extreme suction caused a disruption in the Earth's rotation, knocking it from it's axis and sending the Earth, with it's billions of inhabitants spinning toward the sun. Only Vince, with his super human abilities could save the world, using his inVINCEibility he returned the Earth to it's rightful place in the galaxy.

In gratitude the people of Earth renamed their planet "Vincelandia" and returned to their favorite place declaring to never come up for air again.

The End

I wouldn't have ..... too much of a risk at the #1 pick that his talent will translate to the NFL ... but that's just me

I would have....no brainer to me. I think he is going to be a Superstar at a marquee position. He will bring a ton of attention to Nashville over the next decade as I think he is going to be a very special and unique player in the NFL.
Lets see him play first, you think he will be great, marquee and very special QB..............I think he is a marquee, great and very special Athlete, but so is Reggie McNeal, and I personaly think Reggie has a better arm.
But that is my opinion. We will just waite and see I could be wrong.

Gary Kubiak has said Carr is the most improved player on the Texans . Eric Moulds says Carr has a world of talent . You can only speculate until they play but I'll bet Vince is not as good as some people want to believe and Carr's not as bad .

I think Vince was going back to Texas until the Rose made his stock rise . He was returning because he was not a polished product ... so what happened to make him a polished player a Titan offseason , I think not .

Vince might end up a good QB , but I'm thinking Mario and Carr are a better option . I do not think Vince will be an all time great .

man Hulk you should be down with Vince Young.

(on Vince Young having people from his hometown church at practice today)

That is Vince and those are things that are important to him. He is taking the opportunity and taking advantage of the open practice sessions to have guests out and invite people that are important to him.

THAT IS BRAND NEW INFORMATION! How did you come up with that, I can't believe I haven't hear this before. :deadhorse

How do you know the Texans made a mistake drafting Mario? If your lines aren't any good, the people behind them can't succeed either no matter who they are!

And BTW, I am huge VY fan and UT season ticket holder, I just don't feel VY was the best fit for our team, meaning we had a bigger need at other positions a.k.a. D-Line. But what does Kubiak know, he has only been playing, teaching, coaching, and evaluating talent for most of his life....but I am sure you are right.

I agree, DC and Mario were better options for us w/ Kubes staff. However, I think Vince will be a great player. He has "it" combined w/ rare athletic ability. Although it will take 2-3 years, I think Vince will be an awesome QB if the Titans give him the support he needs.

you must of not seen david carr play college ball he is the best QB in college history also the best NFL QB to date.:homer:

Yeah Vince is a great athlete, but he has never played in the NFL, its a totally different story up here...plus we had to fill voids, and Williams was the best choice for the Texans

I opened this thread thinking it would be a place to submit any stories/experiences that any of us have personally had with Vince Young, I guess I was mislead by the title. The couple times I've seen/met him he barely acknowledged my existence and didn't seem overly friendly, although I can't say I'd be a bubbly, happy, talkative person towards the general public if I was a professional athlete.

Its just like all the Vick hype when he first came out. He was going to be the Jordan of the NFL, now 4 years later not too much talk of Vick. Just another running QB with below average passing abillities. Young won't even live up to that hype, he's slower that Vick, is too upright when he runs and is going to take some serious hits in the NFL. He's not going up agianst Rice, UH, N.Texas, Balor.

Yes in a heartbeat. Whats the difference in talent between the #3 overall pick and the #1 overall pick if you dont mind me asking?

800 pts if you believe the draft charts.

As a Texans fan I am just praying for a first, that you biased Aggies will finally be right about something.

Now now... let's not be too hard on the A&M folks. They get a lot of things right. Like I once had this Aggie that could fix any lawnmower in the country. No matter how busted up the thing was, he could fix it. He didn't even take a week to do it either. He was like the Michael Jordan of small engine repair.

I'd say,"Can you fix it?"
He'd say,"Yep."

And he was right. Everytime.

That's good place to go get some learning. They put out some of the best back-ups in the country. :stirpot:

Heh... how easily those silly Longhorns forget about Mr. Invinceables all-time low Wonderlic scores! Hmm...

Vince is an incredible athlete. That is his downfall. He will never be comfortable in a pocket and will always attempt the infamous UT "one-progression offense". If he can overcome his own hype, then he may have a chance to lead the Titans. But I doubt it.

damn im sick of hearing all these "we should of picked vince or bush...." well if your so eager for vince then pack your bags and go in support the titans......give vince the same oline that carr has had for the last four years, he wouldn't be able to pass for peanuts, no QB can with the oline that carr has been with....

"offense wins the crowd....but DEFENCE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS"

If VY were from any other city and didn't play at UT, no one would have had such a w**dy for him. That is the truth. The clamor for him being 1 overall came from locals and UT alumni. This is not trying to bring him down, I just refuse to build him to be more just because where he's from and where he played.

Exactly. Very few people who live outside of about a 400 mile radius of Austin considered him worthy of the #1 pick. The Titans own coaching staff didn't believe he was worthy of even a #3 pick and wanted Leinart instead.

Vince Young will be a Hall of Famer. Book it.

When we look back at the 2006 draft in ten or fifteen years, we will see a very deep draft that had a ripple effect throughout the NFL for many years. It may well turn out that taking Mario Williams at # 1 overall was smart. But there also will be no question that taking Vince Young # 1 would have been a no-brainer....

Vince couldn't hold a candle to Carr's college career! VY WILL be a NFL bust, so all the vince:homer:on this board better put those Titan jerseys up for now. If Vince would came out of school and been a Texan back in 02', he would have already been out of the league, mark my words. Even going to a more established team it won't even take them 5 years to realise he's a bust!

How many National Championships did Carr win in college?

All that's saying is that Vince Young was with a better team than David Carr. Is Peyton Manning a worse QB than Ben Roethlisberger because Peyton has 0 Super Bowls and Ben has 1? I don't think so. There's no I in team. The whole team wins games, not just one player.

I don't know if you watched the Rose Bowl... one player won that game.

We're not talking about professional level. Carr is more suited for the pro game.

The previous poster stated that Carr's college career was better than VY's, which is ridiculous. Vince led his team to a number of big wins over the highest level of competition while Carr just put up big numbers for one season over lesser talent. Vince has a big shiney ring and will always be referred to as a National Champion. That Rose Bowl game will be played on ESPN Classic for our grandchildren to see, so in a sense, Vince's college career will live in infamy while Carr will be remembered with Trent Dilfer and Billy Volek as another random QB that played in The Valley.

Michael Huff right?

One player did not win that game although one player did have one of the all time great college games.

That statement in itself proves that VY will be a flop in the NFL. He will keep his childish college offensive mindset and it will be his downfall. He really needed Steve McNair as a mentor for the next couple of years, but he doesnt even have that now. I feel sorry for the guy. I do hope he doesn't get himself injuried when taking hits when he becomes a starter.... the way he runs is bound to get him hit.

I'm guessing he's going to be another Randall Cunningham, maybe slightly better.

But to say that David Carr's career was better than Vince Young's is outrageous. I mean, come on.

I don't understand the assertion there. David Carr left Fresno with a record-breaking Senior year where he had a season similar to that of Peyton Manning in '04. VY ran up and down the field for like, 220 yards at the Rose Bowl, didn't he? He is an incredible athlete but he isn't the prodigal QB that everyone hopes he should be.

I think he'll have a good career, but what he did in college does not translate into a long successful career in the NFL. Vick may be exciting, but those legs and that body will not hold up the way he plays. And he truly hasn't learned to play like an NFL should, ala McNabb, Culpepper & Steve Young Having said that I do think VY will be better than Vick.

Stat wise yea, he only played for 2 years, add up everything he did by 2 more years.

That...Is....Unreasonable......how can you predict his stats by multiplying what he did times 2 ?

So your telling me if the defense didn't do there part and didn't stop USC's offense than Vince Young still would have won that game?

Fresneck State played much lesser talent and Carr still wasn't good enough to start until his Jr. year.

Bottom line is that VY led his team to a lot of big wins against top tier college talent. And he has a ring. David Carr put up good numbers against lower tier college talent and led his team to, well, nothing really.

Just an interesting qote from something that I came across written by Peter King of Sport Illustrated (Feb. 2006):

There's one other Young question you've got to think about: Will his skills translate seamlessly to the NFL? The closest player to Young is Mike Vick, and Young is probably a little better, or at least a little more accurate in the passing game. Vick has won some games, beaten Favre in Lambeau in the playoffs, and generally done well in his first few years. But has he reached a plateau? Can Young continue to run and be the multi-purpose weapon he was at Texas? As Ron Jaworski told me recently, "I keep hearing how Vince Young's going to change the game. Well, the NFL's been around for over 80 years, and no single player has changed the game.''

Of course, Young played with top tier college talent.

Fortunately, Vince will have top tier pro talent in Tennessee. :ohsnap:

Um, no he won't. Here's to finding out how the other half lives, Mr. Young.

Yea and one of them was drafted #1 and the other did not know if he should play WR in the NFL or not.

The same Fresno State that was a win away from a BCS birth.............

Name one player that Carr had on his team that is in the NFL now???????? You mean he did all that with less talent around him?
Why did he not do well with less talent around him in the NFL, Maybe the coaching was better for Carr in College then in the pros? AND why would they bring in Pat Hill for an interview for the Houston Texans Head Coaching job cause he took a SMALL school and put them on the map, I will tell you this put ANY TEAM up against the Bulldogs and you will get a game out of it.

Jeb Putzier went to Boise State
LT went to TCU
Peek was in the WAC for a while at Cinci
