Whose numbers will the texans retire?

This post by Carr2Johnson got me thinking about whose numbers the texans might one day retire. At this point, who do you think is the most deserving of this honor? Who will earn that honor through exceptional play in years to come?
 
Have no idea.

No one has performed at any level for one season for this consideration.

This is like picking who will win the Super Bowl in 10 years.

No picking the winner in the Super Bowl in 10 years is WAY easier. You got a one out of 32 chance ( 33 counting L.A. )

Yeah, I guess you are right. And at least you know there will be a winner that year.

Maybe there won't be a player playing "well" enough to even be considered for retiring his number.

Billy Madison signed in 2010 in the 7th round as a 6 foot 7 inch running back weighing 295 pounds. He scored 150 tds and rushed for 22,000 yds. He retired after only for years and was a selection in first year of eligibility. If you are going to fantasize, so will I.
 
PD - At this point, I see only one contendor for that spot. Only one player on the Texans team has made the Pro-Bowl and still looks competitive/doesn't seem to be on the bubble. My guess is Dre. I suspect he is going to bounce back, and I also suspect he will make the Pro Bowl multiple times.
 
There should never be another #82, that is unless it's Billy Miller himself. Retire the number and give it the credit it's due. He has the distinction of having THE exceptional play...the first touchdown deserves the first retiring. :twocents:

Seth Payne's(I forgot his number)

They were only here for a few years of there career. They've played in other places longer. Why would they want their number retired here?

I wouldn't retire his number, but I would give him the first slot in the Ring of Honor though. He kept the fires burning in these cold first seasons.

Although he sorta gets the martyr tag though too, because he was cut he doesn't get tagged with being part of the lull. That shields him a little.
 
Matt Stevens. No one should be able to use his number (26). It's probably cursed. Glenn Earl should change his jersey number right now.
 
Nobody deserves it right now. Nobody is even close to having great numbers at their position. Nobody has helped us win games with superior play. Nobody has been a repeat probowler. Nobody has been an MVP.

Billy Miller? For what? One catch and his number is retired? I hope that was a joke. hehe

You don't put good players' numbers up in the rafters and certainly don't put them in a "Ring of Honor". They have to be elite franchise type players that when you ask someone from outside of the city about them, there's a good chance they know them for their play. They should be someone that plays the largest part of their career in Houston and will always be associated with Houston.

Football is different than the NBA or MLB. You only have so many numbers for each position so retiring them is a very huge decision.
 
number 23, i believe dunta gonna be with us till he retires,he's the type of player who plays with passion and love for the sport, and not for the big money contract that others go for, not once has he complained about anything, hes given only hes best since hes been here, and with mario pass rushing skills, hes only gonna get better

maybe 37, if he stays healthy and KB is still the head coach lets not forget that he does have the most team records

Keep in mind on Miller--the Texans got him from ... the Denver Broncos. Kubiak was undoubtedly part of that decision. Since leaving the Texans, Miller has basically been unemployed. Miller should always be remembered fondly by Texans fans but he was eminently upgradeable.

they should retire number 32 because we are the 32nd team in the league, and because they had some before we got any players

I sincerely hope something like this doesn't happen. I like Billy Miller as much as the next guy and it's a great thing that he scored the first TD in Texans history but try to be somewhat realistic about this. Retiring a players number is an amazing honor that should be reserved for the best of the best. Retiring a number because he scored a TD cheapens it. If Billy Miller gets his number retired for his contribution I'm sorry but that means getting your number retired by the Texans means nothing.

This thread is something like 15-20 years early. Well intentioned I'm sure but still incredibly early. Before a single number gets retired you should have several guys who's careers are either over or closing in on being over that have accomplished so much that the fans are demanding that the team retire one or more of their numbers. Then the team should retire one of them or no more than two on the first go round.
 
The only people I see on the Texans that would have a chance at jersey retirement is AJ and Dunta. Williams and Ryans have a ton of hype but there's no use in trying to project people that haven't played yet.
