Foxsports:4 downs

Every year, NFL general managers draft for need and then swear that the players they took were actually atop their draft boards. Thanks to the Internet, it is possible for fans to independently verify the quality of their team's draft choices. A virtual cottage industry has sprung up around the draft, and ex-scouts and professional (and amateur) draftniks have flooded the Web with scouting reports, mock drafts and player rankings. While there are always disagreements, there is a surprising degree of consensus that builds up about many of the prospects.

In this series of Four Downs articles, we are examining every team's draft to see how it stacks up against a collection of major draft site boards. We will list where each draftee was ranked on four different draft boards, or if they were ranked at all (two of the boards went only 100 players deep). We will also put up the best available player who was available at the time of the selection according to the independent draft boards.

gets me is they make a big deal out of the Mario pick yet in the four mocks they have him (mario) listed at #2 .. yet they talk about trading down to #4 with the jets (getting their 4th round pick also) ... must be a gas leak, becase N.O. didn't need a Qb and Mario would have been gone.. we would be having a defensive front that lacked Mario.. time willl tell if D'brick would have made an impact (if we would have selected him at #4 if n.o. took Mario) ... we will see how our OL will be.

Actually, Broncos traded up in first to pick Cutler....You're right, though; no one wanted to trade for #1 pick.

That's right....they traded up to 11th for that. Ok, I'll buy that.

I am very pleased with the draft in every round.:fireball:

Even dear old Dallas' Gosselin gave the Texans a coup in picking up Eric Winston in the 3rd round, when he said most had him going high in the second.

we could have gotten winston with 3a and youbouty/pope(save the pick on owen daniels) with 3b. THEN we drafted daniels with pope still on the board, THEN wali lundy over darnell bing, and passed on anwar phillips for david anderson. whoa, i thought passing on reggie was bad.

There is a reason we didn't pick those players you mentioned over the players we picked. We had scouts watching each player that entered the draft for weeks and I think they know the talent that was out there better than the media does. Leonard Pope was taken in the third round not fourth, otherwise, yes, I'm sure we would have gotten him. If we really wanted Anwar Phillips we could have signed him, but Kubes and Co. feel we are strong at CB and there is no need for drafting one. The draft was as better than could be expected with Casserly leaving.

Yeah, how could we pass on a defensive player who was on a defense ranked about 30th in collegiate football this year?

That talented defense stopped Texas dead in their tracks, and they really held it together against Fresno State, too.

Bing might be a good or great NFL player, but to say that we were dumb for getting Lundy and not Bing is a stretch.

No homer attitude here, but I do think we did well in the draft...and several gurus say we ranked at the top of the draft report card, as well (Kiper being one).

Bing is too slow to play in a NFL secondary....I think he is trying to convert to a linebacker...he is a project at linebacker.

I kind of like to see the players on the field before I declare them 'good' or 'not so good'. Guessing and gloming onto & projecting other people's draft opinion (ie media reports) before they hit the field is fun and all...but it really doesn't have much to do with reality.

Bing and Simpson are both dumber than a bag of hammers (Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? reset). Pope doesn't fit the offense. If they were the best players on the board when our picks came up - we'd have taken them. They weren't.
