Who won't be a Texan, on June 1st?

Hey I want to know who will probably get cut for cap room or just because they arent holding up their end of the deal.

Will there be any large names getting cut june 1st?

I'd say Wade is gone and Wong is a possibility. Other than them no-one.

Who could we pick up June 1st..... well maybe not pick up, but start opening negotiations.

Is Ty Law still a FA? With a raft of June 1st cuts it could drive his price down a bit.

With a lot of movement earlier in the year, prior to the agreement over the salary cap, I dont think we'll see that much happen. If a veteran Safety with a bit left in the tank became free then I'd look to snap him up.

Wong is injured right now, so he can't be cut unless the Texans come to an injury settlement with him. That is very unlikely, so look for Wong to be on the PUP list to start the season.

Due to the fairly large cap increase this year, don't look for boatloads of cuts by other teams. There will be some, but not like other years. Wade is very likely gone, but all otheres are up in the air IMO.

i think it might be wong, wade, and i think some ufa d - linemen and linebackers. What do we have to get our roster down to?

to be perfectly honest i would love to see kris brown gone...he had a terrible season and i've never able to trust him with the game on the line...i wonder if there is somebody we can pick up or we already have on our roster

that's the problem...who is there to pick up? unless another kicker gets hurt kris is the best player we can have at kicker. Doug Brien and Paul Edinger are both available but both had horrible seasons last year.

Bruener, he has no place in Kubiak's offense . . .
Dwayne Carswell filled the role of blocking TE in Denver for many seasons. Bruener can do the same this season for the Texans.

Mario Williams - Dunta Robinson - Eric Moulds - Andre Johnson - Mike Flanagan - David Carr and Antawn Peek will all get cut:hides:

i really doubt that, but whatever floats your boat....i would rather see wade, wong, bruener, kris brown

Looking back on it, Kris Brown, for shanking those field goals of games that we could have actually won last season. lol

Wade, Wong, Buchanon

I'm sure Wade will get cut, unless he suddenly turns around his game, but for players available, I read somewhere that Dwight Smith from New Orleans (FS) could get cut. Would be a great pickup if he were cut and we signed him

I'm not going to say all these players will be let go but its gonna be a dogfight for sure. Good luck to everyone & may be best men become Texans :hunter:

Derrick Armstrong WR, Brad Bedell T, Mark Bruener TE, Jeff Charleston DE, Jason Davis DE, Anthony Floyd SS, Aaron Halterman TE, Jammal Lord FS, David Loverne G, Donovan Morgan WR, Matt Murphy TE, Kenneth Pettway LB, Terry Pierce LB, Ephraim Salaam T, Devarick Scandrett DE, Ben Steele TE, Michael Stone S, Chris Taylor WR, Andre Torrey LB, Scott Weaver FB, Tramon Williams CB

Don't look for a lot of June 1st movement. Most teams have already made most of the cuts they plan on for two reasons. Increased cap and according to the new CBA teams can now release two players prior to June 1st and the cap hit isn't accelerated to that year (rather like prior June 1st cuts they are spread over this years and next years cap). If you look at most teams cuts over the past they usually only cut a couple of vets. However with the new CBA most of the players they would have cut are already gone. June 1st is a lot less of a factor this year than it has ever been. There may be a couple cuts, but nothing close to years past. Don't get your hopes up on too many good players shaking loose cause is just aint gonna happen this year or as long as the new CBA is intact.

I hope they get rid of Steve McKinney. I just don't know, he just seems the most likely player to get kicked off the Texans Island on June the 1st.

I am thinking Wade will be a casulty unless he is having some good weeks with the new system

Out of these ppl i hope they keep, Armstrong, Anthony Floyd, Aaron Halterman, Donovan Morgan, Kenneth Pettway, Salaam, Andre Torrey, Michael Stone, Scott Weaver, and Terry Pierce.

Halterman, Pettway, and possibly Morgan (if he's still elidgable) could easily be on our practice squad.

If I remember correctly, Halterman was also a long snapper in college, so he could serve as a little insurance if they keep him.

This year there will be fierce competition at WR, TE, DE, T & G. As a matter of fact across the board which is a good thing. Armstrong has not been a good route runner, although showing good hands I'm not sold on him being a Kubiak guy, same with Morgan, its going to be tough for both. With a healthy Joppru TE is all of a sudden loaded, just can't see keeping more than four. We already know the defensive line is loaded as well the tackle position with several two/three way players who can also play guard. Carry three QB's plus one rookie going to the practice squad, there are just not that many roster spots (53) to go around. its going to be much harder to be a Texan this year. :twocents:

Excuse my ignorance but what how many players do we get to keep???

The final roster is 53 players, with 8 additional players who are practice squad players. These players must be younger than 3rd year players, and i think there is a games played limit. Allong the way to 53 players, the NFL has mandated cuts in which a team must have only a certain number of players on the roster. They usually begin during training camps, and go all the way thru the preseason.

June 1st is a huge day for cuts. The NFL has made it so that if a player is released on June 1st, their cap hit can be spread over 2 years rather than the typical 1 year. So for instance, if a player was owed $1 million in guaranteed money and got cut on June 1st, we could pay him $500,000 this year and also the next year instead of $1 million this year.

The first mandatory cutdown is to 75 (including NFLE players) sometime in August.

June 1 is not a mandatory cutdown date - I get the feeling some people think it is. June 1 is just the date after which you can cut a high cap guy (like Wade) and spread his hit over two years instead of taking it all in the current year.

The Texans have already taken June 1 benefits on Coleman and Walker - taking advantage of the new CBA rule that allows you to cut two players in March and still get the June 1 benefit. On June 1, the Texans can move some of the Walker and Coleman dead money to next year which will help them absorb some of Wade's '06 hit - assuming he is cut - and sign another fullback and/or RB.

Thanks AJ and Lork.

There will be some decent players being cut for sure to get down to 53.

It is nice to have some depth and competition.

same here. Whatever happened to finding Kickers in foreign countries? It sure doesn't look like it would be that hard? Just set up a tent in Poland, Brazil, or something like that... tell everybody here's your chance to earn 500,000 dollars a year, if you can kick this ball between these two polls 50 out of 50 without hurting yourself. That's all you gotta do!

Here's Brown's card
PRO: One of the league’s most consistent and clutch kickers…has connected on 76.3 percent of his career FG attempts (158 of 207)…has hit five game-winners for the Texans and nine over six NFL seasons…has made 73 of 90 attempts under 50 yards in four seasons in Houston and has accounted for 32.6 percent of the team’s points…can boast 663 career points…one of the team’s most active members in the community…signed by the Texans on 3/25/02 as a restricted free agent from Pittsburgh…originally drafted by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft.

Hmmmm... wait a minute. So is this one of those glass half full half empty tricks? They didn't list how many game losers he kicked?

meh I changed my mind. I am not so sure a walk-on would be better then what we got.

As for June 1 cuts, I don't expect many. Wade, maybe. He's still considered a starter by some people, but who knows how that will turn out. Everyone keeps mentioning all the lower tier players, but I don't think many of them will be released. Many of them will make it to camp, and then be cut soon afterward. On average, I think around 90 players for each team go into training camp. It gets cut down from there to 53. 8 are signed to practice squad the day after TC ends.

Those are pretty good stats. He is pretty solid, I think Brown had an off year, he will get another year to prove his worth, its not like he is Jose Cortez or anything.

yeah that makes perfect sense. i know u said it playing but with all the negative people on this board i figured someone would really post something like this. I think Wade will get cut.

June 1st is not roster trimming time, we need as many guys around for camp as we can get to boost the competition level. June 1st is just a time to spread cap hits on higher end player, which we barely have any besides wade and payne, and I dont seem them cutting payne till after camp , if at all, I guess if they agree to a injury settlement with wong they could cut him to. but I doubt when they do it will really matter if they have to compensate him.

After that one kick that was WAY OFF to the left, I have no doubt that brown was putting the #1 pick in the Texans hands. Theres no way a pro kicker does that from something like 30 yards. It was almost laughable/sad how he missed the game winners at the end of the season.

Wasn't he also doing that with no time left, like a free kick right?
