Approximately 20% of symptomatic hamstring injuries are free of positive MRI findings. Once there are positive MRI findings (as was the case for Bush), even more minor ones, prognosis changes. In professional sports these hamstring injuries have a high incidence of recurrence which makes it one of the most frustrating for players, coaches, treating doctors and physiotherapists. A recurrence rate of approximately 30% can be expected over a 2 year period for athletes such as football, soccer and rugby players, as well as sprinters. Most occur within the 1st two weeks back to full activity, and most of the remainder within the next few months. I would dare say that even though Mario is said to have toe problems, for a juging running back/speedster like Bush to have such an injury which was sustained during simple stretching “warm-up” exercises (this was confirmed by a report given to me through a source with the Saints), his long term future “superstar” status can be seriously questioned. This can easily account for his turnabout from “whatever it takes” [get the deal done prior to training camp] to “We have to have a fair offer.” In fact, it is believed that “Bush will seek a deal that approximates, and perhaps in some ways surpasses, the six-year, $54 million contract that the Houston Texans awarded defensive end Mario Williams, the draft's top pick.” I.E., INJURY = Take the money and “RUN.”

Poor Bush, he won't be able to give away his 25% take on his #5 Jersey.........Don't you hate when you lose a source of good tax deduction......especially in a state with 8% income tax. To think of it, even if Bush pushes the greed factor in his contract negotiations, he is likely to take home significantly less than Mario (0% income tax)........and family attornies are very expensive these days.:rolleyes:

Bush has said he will still donate 25% of his proceeds to hurrican victims, not sure why he can't donate all of it since he'll likely be getting a $50 million+ contract and all kinds of other endorsements, either way I doubt him having #25 instead of #5 will impact his jersey sales. I also don't think Mario's toe problem is anything to worry about, it didn't sound serious when I asked an acquaintance of mine with the Texans about it.
 
An excerpt from today's SI article:

In mid-May, Bush virtually ruled out a holdout. "I told my agent I want to be here in camp on time, whatever it takes," Bush told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. . "I don't want to get caught up in holdouts or things like that."

Then this week, Bush came out with a verbal shift as nifty as one of his football moves. While reiterating his desire to attend camp on time, Bush told ESPN's Len Pasquarelli: "[Agent Joel Segal] knows we have to have a fair offer, one that meets our expectations."

I'm willing to bet that the Saints' definition of fair won't mesh with Bush's expectations. After coming tantalizingly close to being the top pick, Bush probably wants at least the same amount as No. 1 overall pick Mario Williams, who signed a six-year, $54 million deal, which included about $26 million in guarantees, with the Texans.

I can't fault Bush for wanting top dollar. He has drawn comparisons to Gale Sayers and been trumpeted as New Orleans' ostensible savior. Franchise Saints don't come cheaply. But if New Orleans' proposal is only slightly less than what Williams got, Bush should sign ASAP.

Hurricane Katrina has caused the population of the city of New Orleans to plummet, reportedly by more than half, to about 200,000. And Bush squabbling over money in a city where many residents live in poverty will threaten the lovefest between him and his fans. Bush's image, besmirched in some eyes by his parents' housing brouhaha, would risk taking another blow. (One thing that could work in Bush's favor, though, is owner Tom Benson's reputation for being frugal. Benson has been reviled in New Orleans since reports came out last year that he wanted to move the franchise to San Antonio. If Bush holds out, fans might just blame Benson first.)
 
The FBI has gotten involved. Even though the investigation is said to be directed towards the marketing agent company, facts of who knew what are bound to come out. I dare say that Bush's skeletons will be running rampant before it's all over. Between the criminal and the civil issues, Bush is bound to be tied up and distracted for a very long period of time. Watkins claims Bush and his parents defrauded his clients of $300,000 in cash, start-up costs and back rent. Watkins contends that they backed out of an oral agreement in which Bush would have been the primary client of New Era Sports and Entertainment, the fledgling marketing agency whose investors included Michael Michaels and Lloyd Lake. Watkins said he hopes to file the paperwork for a lawsuit by the end of July. Bush's attorney, David Cornwell, told NFL Security in April that Bush was the target of an extortion attempt. Cornwell later said the FBI had opened an investigation into an alleged extortion attempt, but Watkins has said neither he nor his clients have been contacted by the FBI or NFL Security.

He is better than Mario and he does deserve more money. He won the Heisman, he was the best player in College Football last year. Mario is just really athletic and has a lot of potential.

So I don't blame him. Mario doesn't have any credentials other than #1 pick. Bush has been called by some as the best college football player of the past 20 years.
 
Bush was just drafted by the wrong organization if he's looking for #1 money.

I think someone else said it thier signature. Bush reminds me of Dante Hall, he'll be a good KR. LOL

As we continue to catch up on some of the stories that have gone generally quiet over the past few weeks, a league source tells us that the decision of the Texans not to select Reggie Bush with the first overall pick in the draft was fueled by the fact that, when the team first tried to contact Bush for an explanation regarding rumors that his family had received free rent from a San Diego firm that wanted to handle his marketing rights and, via NFLPA-certified agent David Caravantes, his football contract, Bush ignored the Texans for three days.

Previously, we reported that the Texans ultimately opted to turn tail on the Trojan tailback because, when he finally talked to them about the situation, they concluded that he was not being truthful.

Meanwhile, we continue to hear rumblings in league circles that cause us to believe that, if the NCAA, the Pac-10, and/or the "real" media continue to dig, they'll find that the situation involving Bush is far more complex than what already has been reported.

Said one source: "[It] makes you wonder what all the West Coast scouts, General Managers and so on were doing when scouting Bush. They make such a fuss on character, but really have no clue when it comes down to it at times. This was as clear as day."

Considering the fact that he won't even be the full time starter at RB, why in the world should he get that much money? Mario is atleast going to play every down so he can earn his contract.

Listening to all this Reggie Bush mumbo jumbo just makes me feel better about the move we made. I mean, we picked up a guy who is huge, quick and intelligent. He will be a starter all year. He is an amazing athlete and plays with intensity. That's what the Texans need next year. Teams will come to Reliant thinking "Alright guys, this is a bye week for all we're concerned. Don't work too hard, it's just the Texans". They will be speechless on their way out.

I have a sneaky suspiscion that Bobo and BlueThunder may be the same person, they share very similar views on many things with our team and they have very similar writing styles, and BlueThunder disappeared from right before the Combine until a couple days ago, and that's right about when Bobo took over on here if I remember right. Unfortunately when I search for Bobo's old posts to try to verify the similarities it can't find any of them. Just a hunch though.
 
LOL still mad Bush isnt a Texan? Also Bush has only missed ONE college game so I dont know where these injury prone talks are coming from.

It's just nice to see that what we did is working out better than what could have been so far...but as long as Mario comes and performs we won't have to worry about Reggie. I'm honestly just sick of hearing about Reggie Bush is the best RB ever and Reggie Bush is the best college player ever and the Texans are stupid for passing him up.

I agree with BroussardSaint...I'm a native New Orleanian, lifelong Saints fan who moved to Houston a couple of years ago. My husband and I had already adopted the Texans as our "other team"....even though they lose a LOT (which I'm used to, LOL), they are generally a group of really likeable, good guys which makes them easy to pull for. My husband was born in Houston and had been an Oilers fan, so we both started following the Texans since their beginning (hard to do since we were living in New Jersey at the time....). Being an LSU grad I follow D. Davis of course, and I've always been a David Carr fan....hopefully Kubiak can turn his career around. I can't wait to see what Kubiak can do for the team!

Draft day was a mix of emotions for me....Texans pass on Bush, darn it! But wait, that means my main team the Saints get him....whoo-hooo!! I think the Texans did the right thing by going for defense, but I think their big mistake was not trading down to do so. That's where my gripe lies with the Texans/Casserly (good riddance!!). Bottom line, both teams got talented players with good character (and I think all the Bush stuff blame lies with his family and that "agent", not him) -- Mario is one of the nicest young men I've seen interviewed, and what Reggie has already done for the city of New Orleans is phenomenal. He is just what New Orleans needed in SO many ways. I hope that these picks work out well for BOTH teams, and I hate it when I hear fans of either team wishing ill on the other out of spite.

The Texans tried repeatedly to trade down and nobody would offer anything worth taking. Some of the main teams they expected to offer something good refused to even talk about it. I wanted them to trade down the whole time, but it was just no go. I think Reggie Bush was the BPA, barring ISSUES--size issue, money issue, legal issues. Reggie Bush will probably be Chris Brown on speed. Serious performance and serious injuries. 700 yds. rushing in 5 games and then sits out for 4 with some problem. There's also the question of running between the tackles, but I think he'll do fine there. I think a lot of teams just don't want to offer much for a #1 pick to spend it on Mario, who is not (talent-alone-wise) quite the BPA or on a RB who is small. Too small can be proven wrong, but it's a risk is the point. A #1 pick on a RB should be on a LARGE, fast, make his own freaking whole and you better get out of the way guy--like an Earl Campbell type. I know that there have been guys who were said to be too small and then, well, look at Emmitt Smith, but it's not what Reggie COULD do that matters because a gamble is not a sure thing. I would have been satisfied with Reggie, but I'm also satisfied with Mario. Do I know that Reggie will be injured a lot? No, I don't know what Reggie is going to do, but I THINK he will be injured too much FOR A #1 PICK, that's all.
