Weekly Vist with McClain on 610

O.G.

Waterboy
Good Morning everyone, haven't posted in a while and thought now would be as good of time as any. Anyway, When listing to John and Lance with Mc Clain on 610 This morning, Mc Clain said quoted Kubiak on the subject of Morrency. She said " Morrency is a shifty back and he has to get out of that. This system revolves around making one cut and getting up the field" That means Morrency in my opinions needs to get with the plan quick. Mc Clain also said they were concerned with running back. Not enough to draft bush but concerned since Domanick had his knee scoped more than 4 months ago and still hasn't hit the field. They like Bennett and can get him for a cheap price. They also feel Lundy will work well in the system. Everyone on defense is in heaven with the move from the 3-4 to the 4-3. Offensive Coordinator Troy Calhoun could be the sleeper of the coaching staff. Head Coach Mike Shannahan said there was no way he would have let Calhoun come to Houston if his old college room mate wouldn't have become available. Oh and don expect the Texans to trade Babin. Babin will play at around 265 to 270lbs and the new coaching staff likes him. He will be in on passing downs, both him and Peek on the ends. New Offensive Linemen Eric Winston is on great shape and looking good as well as Charles Spencer. They have had Steve Mc Kinney playing at RT for the first time in his career. Last, they had Joppru at H Back. He looked ok, but might have a hard time making the team.

Wouldn't that be a downer after waiting so long for BJ to get healthy.

Yah.. he isnt the type of TE that Kubiak would normally go for though, so I wouldnt be surprised.

Im hoping he will wow us and go out and become a starter, but thats a bit much to ask. If he doesnt make the team, I just hope someone picks him up. I feel sorry for the kid.

I've heard Joppru has looked pretty good at tight end, so this is probably just more experimentation and speculation. I'd be surprised if Bennie isn't on the final roster.

I don't think the

Babin-Weaver-Williams-Peek

pass rushing line-up is more than just something to consider right now either. Does that really look better than

Williams-Weaver-Smith-Peek

in that situation? I'd predict that having Robaire in the middle and Williams at end would generate more pressure than Mario in the middle and Babin on the end. Of course, it's early, things will change as they develop. (I'm thinking of changing my signature line to that caveat).

Yeah, that sure would be a bummer. I was kind of hoping we could still get some playing time for this guy since we spent a second rounder on him.

What about Travis Johnson? I would think Babin/Peek, Weaver, Johnson, Williams gives you the best pass rushing Dline. If Travis isn't playing ALOT this year, he was a total bust as a mid first pick.

I dont see it being anything other than:

Williams - Johnson - Smith - Weaver

In a base 4-3 alignment of course. We paid alot of money to Weaver to be a strong end. Smith is a natural DT, and I would assume that Johnson, will be 2x better at DT, than DE. And of couse Williams was drafted to rush the passer.

McClain is just filling air time. He knows very little if recent history is any indication. These media people have to say something. I wouldn't get too hung up on what John "Take a breath once in a while" McClain says. Bennie Joppru has always been more of an H-Back tweener.

I would agree if we had the same system as last year. However, with the system switch, I am giving him until the beginning of next year to start showing me something.

McClain isn't very good when it comes to speculation or evaluation. He does his best work when someone tells him what is going on, and he relays it to us.

That's my fear, and I hope I'm wrong. I'm not really basing it on anything. I used to think he may have been a bad fit for the 3-4, but now I'm not so sure.

It was all about coaching. I wouldn't write anybody off until this group of coaches do. Even then, it might be more of a case of someone has to be cut.

Wow. What a job to have.

"Hey, someone tell me what's going on so I can tell people what's going on...and someone check my ebay progress on the Vince Young bobblehead I'm bidding for."

Good grief..........................

Joppru and Babin are borderline busts. If either makes any big plays...they should a Standing O.

I was listening to 610 and the guys mentioned that McClain actually just left on a VACATION to Europe. He's not coming back for a couple of weeks. So don't expect any coverage from him....

Wouldn't it be nice to have gotten DJ instead of TJ .........Our defense would be vicious..

I thought he was drafted to be a combo of Billy Miller and Breuner? He was supposed to be a tight end that could catch a pass and block.

So McClain is a messanger more than journalist and making $$$ like journalist.
Actually Mr. McClain is an actor. Didn't you hear him recently telling the 610 morning guys about all the movies he is in that comes out soon or is in filming? I think he said it totals about 4minutes 17 seconds, but hey(as Casserly would say) that is more than me.

McKinney is playing RG not RT. If I remember right McClain also said they might have Peek and Babin in together on passing situations, but that will depend on whether they want to move Mario inside and have Peek outside vs. keeping Payne/Robaire inside and Mario outside, I'm willing to bet more often that not Mario will stay on the outside and Babin won't see much PT barring an injury. I don't think they'll trade him though as he's their 4th best DE (counting Weaver) that could potentially play both sides of the line and he's not especially expensive to hold onto.
