Anyway, Ryans will be our most productive LB...In fact, if he is placed at the Mike, I say he has a good chance of winning DROY...

I also believe Ryans will be our most productive LB. At least he is a true Linebacker and not one of the project guys the Texans have drafted to play LB in the past few years. He should be very solid if not a great player there.

to be honest i do not believe orr fits this new defense...i believe he will be cut after training camp...that being said i believe right now ryans is not the best linebacker on this team but in two years he will be

In this defense LB's will be asked to stop the run first and foremost.
I don't expect to see many LB's coming on blitzes. The line has responsibility for the pass rush.
However I think Orr has shown enough to be kept on to see what he can offer as a 4-3 LB.

Don't forget if Texans get Brooks in supplemental...this LB corps will be much sweeter.... Wong will start on PUP list. I like Polk, Orr, and Ryans. Hopefully, Greenwood will play to his contract. Answer: Ryans

My prediction is that Ryan will be this year's Tatupu.

that will be good - how about a cross between Tatupu and Odell Thurman who a had good rookie season at the Bengals?

If we get brooks and he is healthy, he is our best LB period...not questions asked. He is a better LB than Hawk IMO.

But assuming we stay with our current roster, its a toss up between cowart and ryans. Ryans should be better, but may not play as much.

IMO, Ryan will be our solid all around LB. The gritty gets it done but it won't look pretty kinda guy.

As far as sacks go it depends, Does Orr and Peek play same side linebacker? If they do how well do they adjust to playing a 43 -vs- 34?

Greenwood couldn't tackle his own shadow, Cowart's a little over his prime and has showed that the last few years, is Polk still a Texan? Are we crossing Babin off the linebacker list?

It will be an interesting year being able to mix and match our DL and linebackers depending on the situation. Smith has a lot to work with.

I saw Demeco play a lot the last few years and I know he is going to become a fan favorite. I think he will get a lot of grooming this year early on by our newley aquired Cowert andby a returning Wong.

I don't really think they want him at ILB (if thats what you are implying). I'm hoping we get someone used to the position to play there, rather than putting an outside guy inside (remember Greenwood?). It sort of concerns me that we didn't draft an ILB to groom behind Cowart, though

My impression was ILB. I thought Ryans played both inside and outside?

Inside makes the most since considering all our young, raw, fresh talent, are our outside linebackers. If Ryans does not play inside that leaves us with Cowart, Polk, Wong. One is hurt, one is older and the other (Polk) would be a solid edition to the middle but I dont see him being able to do it by himself.

Personally, they all seem to me to be a mish-mosh of mediocre to below-par folks. Greenwood came in here with a lot of hype but a lot of observers claim he has disappointed while Wong, from what I understand, has been somewhat medicore. None of these guys really stand out, IMO.

If he is the best linebacker coming in as only a rookie 2nd rd choice then we have a problem

I was not reffering as much to their playing ability as I was there mentorship skills. I'm not real sure about Greenwoods personality but he does have a lot of OTF training and awareness he could pass along. The question was will Ryans be our best LB and in time, mabe even by week 9 0r 10 he should be well on his way. This guy is very smart and picks up things very quickly. He can play both inside and outside, most of the time Bama used him inside.

I have no doubt it will be Demeco. Followed by Wong. Something about those SEC boys makes them tough as nails.

You beat me too it.

i hate this....too much competition lol...i mean i know its good, but can anyone come up with who they think will play where at LB this yr??

i have:

OLB - ryans (all time)
MLB - kailee wong (pass downs and will see time at OLB in runs)
MLB - sam cowart (run situations only)
OLB - shantee orr (pass downs and shared time with wong in runs)

I think it's been said before, but wasn't Wong kinda' being utilized out of his normal position last season? Prior to the injury, he just looked out of sync...like he was always in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

I missed the other Wong, the guy who was a ball hawk and was always in the on the tackle somehow.

Watching footage of Ryans, and listening to the analysts talk about Ryans, I get the feeiling that he's an instant starter. Wong, IMO, will be on the field a lot, too, but I think Wong has got maybe one or two more seasons in him.

Our LB crew is, IMO, the biggest weak link on our team. Greenwood, Cowart, an inured Wong, and Babin/Peek who the previous coaches couldn't figure out how to utilize in the best manner....it just feels that Ryans was a good upgrade, but that we've still got some potential problems at LB. Maybe playing the 4-3, and getting stronger on the d-line, will help our LBs.

i think we'll see the opposite. in the few denver games that i've watched in the past couple years, their blitzes included about 15 players & the waterboy (denver blitzing on third & long looked more like a punt block unit). the broncos didnt go with much defensive trickery that i could tell, they went all or nothing. i'd assume that we'd see a lot of that here. it'd be the exact opposite of what we're used to seeing from the capers' defense, who more often than not just confused themselves. ryans should get plenty of rush attempts, more often than not though i think it's a foot race to see who hit's the qb first.

i expect ryans to be our best lb because he's going to be a 3 down guy and he's in the ideal denver mold. if i had to guess, i'd wager on numbers similar to dj williams' rookie season ... 106 tackles (combined), 2 sacks, 1 FF, 1 INT, 7 passes defensed. not a bad start.

I guess I missed something, are we actually considering Ahmad Brooks in the sup draft or is that just rumor.

i havent seen anything from the staff, it's all rumor as far as i know. and with next year's draft looking as deep as this year's, it's not a rumor that i'm entirely interested in.

I agree, I know that he was supposed to be a player in college, but he had some character issues, i think.

From what I read, not only did he have character issues, he was out of shape.

Character issues alone should tell you he won't be coming here.

Not even a rumor. More like some fans posting that they hope the Texans take him in the SD.

Peek probably won't even play LB. He's going to be looking at DE on 3rd downs only, or something like that.

Yep. Peek did not do as well as some hoped as a linebacker.

last years whole team did not perform as many had hoped. he will be given the opportunity to earn his spot just like the rest of the roster, my guess is he will be a pass rushing specialist at DE when it is all said and done.

Kubes said that Peeks and Babin both will be at DE. He also said earlier in the week that Players would not be moved around to different positions the way they have in the past.

odell thurman was the bengals second round choice and he was their best linebacker. same can be said with lofa tatupu. Both of those teams were in the playoffs.

We have a problem anyways cuz we were a 2-14 team.
