DeMeco Ryans on 610 now.

Listening.

Talked about how excited he was to be a Houston Texan.

Talked about the senior leadership at Alabama

Will try to help whatever the team needs. Whatever helps win games. If we are winning, I am happy with that.

He says he doesn't think he need to change his size. He is at 240--it is a nice weight for him. It is not about size, it is about heart.

SEC gets you ready for the NFL because there are no weeks off in the SEC.

It is going to be great playing behind Mario Williams.

I like what I hear ... I wish my kids would say yes sir and no sir half as much as this guy ....

He is proud of the "Top 8" award for being a student/athlete. Division I,II,III--included.

He helped out with the Hurricane Katrina folks by donating their per diem. Did fund raisers for the Red Cross. Playing and reading with kids. I am looking forward to helping kids out.

www.demecoryans.net is the website.

May 14th is when he gets to Houston.

He has met Richard Smith, the DC.

Getting goose bumps and I can't even listen to it.

He was the team leader who was responsible for getting his teammates to donate their weekly allowance to the folks from Katrina who were relocated to U of Alb. He also made it a team rule that all players were to pick up dirty laundry off the lockerroom floor. He thought is was unfair to have the trainning staff pick up after players. He was known for donating more time to public service than anyone else on team while carring highest GPA.

geez.. is this guy for real? If he is as great an LB as he is a person, then he is gonna be my favorite player on defense.

A DeMeco Ryans jersey is gonna be my next purchase.

Wow, I'm more impressed with this pick than ever now! Good to hear, and thanks for the re-cap!

Leadership. Smarts. And football smarts. Likes to hit people. What you like to see in your linebacker and something the Texans have needed.

If you are feeling bad about anything, poke around his website for a bit. Make you feel pretty good about our pick. Folks in Alabama like Ryans like Texas fans like VY. Face of the team.

Is it at all possible that this kid could see some time at safety? He sounds like an incredibly gifted athlete and a standup guy. Great pick.

not fast enough for safety

I think my new Texans mancrush is Demeco. Can't wait to see him this fall.

Damn, sorry I missed this.

Rather amazed that the national media didn't get a hold his story.

Getting more and more excited about the draft as the days pass.

this kid could very well be one of the best LB's that wasn't drafted in the first round...personally i thought he was better than bobby carpenter...but i was very happy to see him fall to us in round 2...can't wait to see this guy play again...by the way i was at the cotton bowl this year to see him against my texas tech red raiders and he tore us up...glad he's on our team now

Coming from a bama fan here in alabama u got a really good player in D ryans. He is so passoniate about the game of football and a really great person he seems to be. Good luck and enjoy watching D Ryans.

Awesome, sounds like a quality pick up. Any mention of what position he will play?

He can play all 3 LB spots in 4-3. Might be best suited for outside

Does he help old ladies across the street? If he does, then he's obviously fake ;)

Did anyone watch the video on the site? It seems like he talks out of the side of his mouth. He reminded me of Bubba in Forrest Gump. That aside, I am an instant HUGE fan of this guy. I respect a guy that is a bonafide star yet has down to earth roots.

Lots of info on our players on the Houston Texans website:

Great DeMeco Ryans stuff for those wondering how he is going to be used.

I like this quote:

(on his impressions of Houston now) “Everything I’ve been hearing is really good. Everybody is saying how great this town is, and there is a lot going on in Houston, and I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s all about myself.”

(Hello Reggie! This is how you answer the question about Houston. Every time. To show you have interest. Even if you figure every place out of Cali sucks. I guess you don't care about the $$$ you lost cuz of your Subway/Adidas endorsements).

This is a nice couple of quotes too:

Johnny Holland (LB coach)

(on how important it was to get Ryans in round two after selecting Williams in round one) “It was huge, I think. Charley Casserly—they really believe in the board that they put together for the draft. DeMeco’s name fell right where we needed it, and it was a no-brainer to take DeMeco. He was high on our list, and he was a priority on our list. We feel fortunate as a team to have a player of this caliber.”

(on where Ryans will line up) “Right now, it’s a toss-up. We feel like he’s a versatile player that can play all three positions. We want to get him on the field first and see where he fits best in our system. We feel very fortunate to have a guy that is capable of playing three different linebacker positions, and he played them in college, too.”

(on where Morlon Greenwood and Shantee Orr will play) “Morlon is a ‘Will’ linebacker and Shantee is my ‘Sam’ linebacker. They’re two really good players for us, and we’re glad to have them, too.”

Ryans:

(on playing in an aggressive defensive scheme) “It’s great. As a linebacker, you love to be aggressive; you love to get at the offense. That’s what you look for. Coming in and being a linebacker, it’s great news to hear that’s the kind of defense that we’re trying to run here.”

This is good stuff. We can have some real superstars on our D. Think about it Dunta, Mario, & Demeco. And solid players in Weaver & Johnson, Peek, Babin?? and Orr, they should keep progressing, it looks good. Hopefully Wong is going to make a full recovery, I haven't heard much about him lately.

I am a little worried about FS/CB (PBUC especially).

Well, if the guys up front are getting the job done, hopefully he won't need to cover guys as they run around for two minutes per play.

(Ok, I'm exaggerating, but you know what I'm saying)

The Texans have always done a good job with bringing into their organization athletes who are also good people, like AJ and Carr. Knock on wood, we haven't heard a "so-and-so arrested" or "so-and-so beat up his wife/dui/whatever."

The top picks this year show that McNair and the Texans are continuing to bring in high-caliber people as well as top athletes. Makes me proud to say I am a Texans fan, even if we don't win every game.

:ok:

He was in our top six on our value board. (Jags)
I thought we might of went for him in the first.
He's a great player and I'll think you guys did good getting him.
With all the hype around bush, I'm glad the Texans are addressing their Defense. I think it was a smart move.

Thanks for the comments. You picked up a young undrafted FA by the name of Pinneger from Fresno State. All he has ever done is win despite all of his inabilities. He's one of those guys that gets it done. It will be interesting to see if he makes your team. He reads defenses well. We almost beat SC, but they had a couple of great plays. The last pass they intercepted was a great defensive play. 9 out of 10 times it would have been caught by us. Many of us are very high on Williams both as a player and a person. We think we made the right choice.

DeMeco Ryans is going to be our best player in this years draft. I think he might be a star for the Texans.:redtowel:
