OLB - shantee orr
MLB - sam cowart

am i forgetting anyone? im not looking at rosters at the moment.

I don't think that Williams will start right away. He has all the skills, but he needs to have a little more coaching. He will most likely start by the end of the year but until then the DEs will probably be Babins and Weaver.

You don't draft a guy #1 and not expect him to contribute right away. plus the best way to work out what problems that arise is to gain experience and learn from it.

if they dont start them new guyitd b stupid especially mario. i wasnt pleased to see him picked but you got no choice as a fan. so the least the coaches can do is start them all.

DE - Williams, DT - TJ, DT - Smith, DE - Weaver

Will - Greenwood, MLB - Ryans, Sam - Wong/Peek

If Posey can play the Sam so can Peek. Greenwood is the will backer and I think Ryans ends up in the middle.

I think that's very possible, but I wouldn't be surprised if Cowart ends up starting at the mike and Ryans starts at the sam...

I am very optimistic and i think this front 4 has the potential to drop back 7 on every play and still stop the run and have adequate pass rush. Mario is a man-child, he's about as big as Richard Seymour, with Julius Peppers measurables.

Maybe not this year, but certainly next year. Then if Babin and Peek can improve in any way, they can be 3rd down edge rushers with mario and weaver in the middle playing dts on passing downs.

Ryans isn't the ideal size to be at the Sam imo...he's better suited for the middle or the will (but probably not fast enough). I think he ends up inside. Keep in mind the Sam has to take on blocking TE's and often take on RT's in the running game. I bet Cowart doesn't make the team.

not at all...back up DE. Babin is more like a lineman and less like a linebacker than Peek is.

That's true, but I have the sneaking suspicion that he will be placed at the sam due to need...I'm not sure that Peek has what it takes to be a good sam, and Wong may not be ready for the start of the season...I really do like the idea of Ryans at the mike, though...He has top intangibles and is a good run stuffer who can drop back into coverage...Maybe I'm just leary after seeing Capers continually play people out of position...

I know this is somewhat off topic, but do you see Spencer making an impact this year, and if so, at what position?

Posey isn't the athlete that Peek is and Peek has trouble keeping enough weight on for the line in a 4-3, so if Posey can handle the Sam, so can Peek. If Peek can't handle it (probably low odds) Wong will play it and save himself from being cut. Outside possibility is Shantee Orr at the Sam...I'd put money on Ryans in the middle. Spencer will be our RT of the future. Hes not a G in this scheme.

Mario will start from day 1, if the season started tomorrow he'd be our starter. Babin is not going to play over Peek either, I don't expect Babin to be on our roster after this coming season unless he really shows something. We now have a 295 lb. weakside DE that is as athletic as Julius Peppers and as strong as most good DTs, I don't know if you people realize what that is going to do to opposing offenses. We will have 580+ lbs. of DEs in the game, plus 630+ lbs. in DTs, so that is over 1200 lbs. of DLine occupying blockers and disrupting running games. In passing situations we bump Weaver inside to DT, move Mario to strongside DE, and bring Peek in at weakside DE and we have a nice pass rushing line as Weaver is a decent pass rusher for a DT and then Mario at strongside and Peek in single coverage on weakside will be nice, maybe even occasionally put Weaver and Mario at DT and Babin and Peek at DE. I smell a 45+ sack year for our defense.

What do u think it will end up being, ive been tryin to line it up in my head and i jus cant decide who would be on the field.

bdiddy's assessment looks good to me, but I think Payne will still technically be getting the start over TJ, although TJ will see more time on the field.

I see it a bit different.. I see
DL
Williams - TJ - Payne - Weaver
(Backups and Cycle members to keep players fresh)
Babin - Smith -Peek - Orr

LB Line
Cowart - Ryans - Wong
(Backups and Cycle members to keep players fresh)
Polk - Greenwood - Anderson

Weaver-Payne-Robaire-Williams
Kalu
Wong-Cowart-Ryans
Greenwood/Peek

Greenwood Ryans Peek/Orr
Williams Smith Payne Weaver

I'm holding out hope Ryans will win the MLB spot. Holland says he can play it, so we'll see.
(on where Ryans will line up) “Right now, it’s a toss-up. We feel like he’s a versatile player that can play all three positions. We want to get him on the field first and see where he fits best in our system. We feel very fortunate to have a guy that is capable of playing three different linebacker positions, and he played them in college, too.”

(on where Morlon Greenwood and Shantee Orr will play) “Morlon is a ‘Will’ linebacker and Shantee is my ‘Sam’ linebacker. They’re two really good players for us, and we’re glad to have them, too.”

I think this is the Front 7 (subject to minimal changes)

Weaver--Johnson--Smith----Williams
Babin----Payne----Deloach--Peek

Orr---Cowart---Ryans
Polk--Wong----Greenwood/Anderson

I think there will be 7 good starters and 7 good backups.

The Front 7 has depth!!!:redtowel:

I think with what everyone is bringing up that we have so many DE, DT, and LB on the roster that there is sure to be cap casulties, or possibly a trade scenario (but nothing of value).

Listed by what I think gets the most PT:

DE: Williams, Weaver, Kalu, Babin, Peek, Davis, DeLoach, Dorsey
DT: Smith, Johnson, Payne, Ioane, Malone, Harris

LB: Ryans, Greenwood, Orr, Cowart, Polk, Wong(injured), Evans, Anderson, Moreno, Rainier, Torrey, Achonolu, Chamberlin, Pettway

I like how we got better value out of our second round pick this year, than we got from our first last year.... rofl

How would our defense look with DJ in their...

I thought there was a chance Peek could play LB, but I guess not:
With free agent Anthony Weaver slated as the starter at left end and Williams pegged to start on the right side, Peek and Babin will fight for playing time behind them.

"We're not going to move them back (to linebacker)," Smith said. "They are situated in their positions. When you look back, the players didn't have a lot of production at pass rush. But really, how much were they training at it or practicing at it (since they were outside linebackers)?

"Antwan is getting bigger and stronger. He's a lot thicker already. Both of those young men have played this position before. This isn't a trial period for them. We're not moving them back."

1st Team:

DE: Weaver
DT: Johnson
DT: Smith
DE: Williams

OLB: Orr
ILB: Cowart
OLB: Ryans

2nd Team:

DE: Babin
DT: Deloach
DT: Payne
DE: Peek

OLB: Greenwood
ILB: Wong
OLB: Anderson

3rd team:

DE: Kalu
DT: Malone
DT: Ioane
DE: Pettway

OLB: empty spot
ILB: Moreno
OLB: Polk

I see it looking something like that.

Notes:

*Polk will move to the outside or continue playing inside where he looked pretty dang good?

*Pettway will be an LB or move to DE where he played in College? Im thinking DE.

* We only have 2 DTs on our roster according to our official page. Payne and Ioane. Makes me wonder if everyone we think is a DT is gonna end up playing at DT. Probably so..otherwise we have a severe shortage of DTs.

* Wong could very well end up as an OLB for us. Ryans could very well end up as an ILB. Peek could very well end up as an OLB. If that happened..our ILBs would be:

1st: Ryans
2nd: Cowart
3rd: Polk (maybe Moreno or Chamberlin)

OLBs:

1st: Orr, Peek
2nd: Anderson, Wong
3rd: Greenwood, who knows..any of 5 or 6 guys..or this may stay as an empty roster spot, since we arently likely to lose 4 LBs.

This is how I see it panning out.

*edit* Peek isnt going to be moved back to OLB..so nevermind on that last part.

53 man roster:
QB - 3
RB - 4
OL - 9
TE - 3
WR - 5

DL - 8
LB - 6
DB - 7
ST - 3 ( PK - 1 PT - 1 LS - 1)

Hm..wow..seemed like we had more than that last year on the Dline.

Well that cuts it down to

DL: Williams, TJ, Smith, Weaver, Babin, Peek, Payne, Deloach/Ioane
LB: Orr, Wong, Greenwood, Cowart, Ryans, Anderson/Polk

guess that means the big fights next season are gonna be between Deloach/Ioane and Polk/Anderson.

Also.. I think those of you who are talking about Kalu making the team... I wouldnt count on it. Not unless Babin or Peek get cut.

*edit* btw.. secondary..

Robinson, Faggins, Pbuch, Earl, Brown, Lewis Sanders, Jammal Lord.. but that leaves us a bit short on SS..unless CC Brown moves back to that position.
