Houston better have the best D-line in the NFL

Let's see, the Texans took Travis Johnson as a 1st rounder last year, number 16 overall. They then spent alot of money to sign Anthony Weaver as a free agent. Now they use the 1st over draft choice on Mario Williams. That's a pretty hefty investment in one area. I'd say we should have some very high expextations for the performance of the d-line. Even with Williams as a rookie and Johnson in his 2nd year, my opinion is that the Texans should at least be top 10 in sacks this year. Thoughts?

Yeah, as someone who has bitched about the pass rush more than anything else that's wrong with this team, it will be a focus.

One thing I heard from McNair yesterday, before the Mario signing, and which made the signing of Williams not a surprise to me . . . was McNair's statement that he was just as frustrated with the lack of a pass rush as I was.

McNair's got a couple of big brass ones, I'll give him that.

They should have a good one - I certainly wouldn't write them off. They have talent across the front 4 now, with some depth.

I like the look of the DLine for next year, Weaver is a great addition and Johnson will come on more for next year. While I'm not totally sold on Williams at that pick he is the best DE in the draft so the DLine should be one of the good points for next season. I'm still somewhat worried about the OLine though!

Last year I was suspicious of how well we would play because we had a really young defense. We were making some great moves, but we are so heavily focusing on defense that I have to say I don't think we will do too well. Like last year, we have offensive weapons if we can get the ball to them. Like last year, there will be a lot of pressure on the line and the coaching. And like last year, I think our defense will be subpar only because they are young (either literally - williams/ryans) or haven't played together for very long (additions of cowhart, weaver, etc.).

I like it more if Wright slips to 3rd round (to groom for Payne)

seriously ...I like how we sit, because before one injury and we would hurting again.. I like how we have depth

This is where I feel bad for Williams. Because if he dosen't have a Reggie White kind of season right out of the gate this town is going to roast him alive. It might not be fair but right now it is what this city is primed to do and it isn't his fault at. Houston could have taken failing with Bush but this town isn't going to tolerate failing with Williams.

i have to say this is very true on many levels.

i have been in favor of selecting reggie bush, but i can deal with mario williams. i would be happy if our defense went to 15th best overall.

but if mario does have a sub par rookie campaign and reggie explodes. no matter how good mario can be, he will be the scapegoat of charlie casserlies legecy of messin up the texans.

i felt sick to my stomach when i saw on the texans homepage they had signed mario.

i am a true texan fan and i will cheer on mario. i think reggie would have been great to watch. but with peyton manning in our division for a very long time, i can only hope mario williams become a nightmare for him anytime he see us.

Weaver - TJ - R.Smith - Mario Williams

That is a MONSTER front 4! Then you've still got Seth Payne to rotate in.

TJ & Robaire will be VASTLY improved going back to their natural position.

Out Dline should be THE strength of out team this year...

Explodes with an OL worse than ours last year and a suspect QB who has had 2 shoulder surgeries, I think only explosion will be when Reggie realizes he is THE OFFENSE. 1) Run Reggie 2) Pass to Reggie

i was just saying that if this were to happen there would be alot of hate directed at mario williams and the texans themselves. Alot of people have said that the texans prolly have one of the worst Olines in the NFL. Yet every anaylyst was saying RB would thrive in houston. Be the kind of back that would make our mediocre line look good.

Now i for one dont think we have a bad line at all. i think with flannigan signed and mckinney moved to guard. we have decent tackles already. i am pretty sure that Kubes, and mike sherman can fix what was wrong in that line and make it quiet serviceable.

cant say that NO line isnt serviceable, deuce has been rushing pretty good behind them. they also have one the NFL premier Tackles in jamaal brown, of whom analyst's speak highly of. if NO took D'Brickashaw at no. 2 then they prolly would have had the most dominant set of tackles in the NFL. i have to admit when i look at the saints offense i would have to say your right, it would be alot of run reggie, throw to reggie. the only true vertical threat they have is joe horn who isnt quite the wideout he used to be.

Not to mention a 1st on Babin 2 years ago and big money in Payne and Smith. Exactly how much money do we have invested in this DL?

I love Robaire...*heart*

Im a girl btw so me saying that is cool!!!!

>.>

Len Dale = Man Boobs!!! that jiggle when he is tackled in the backfield by Super Mario

I sooo cannot wait until we're seeing the likes of PManning, BLeftwich & whoever the tight-ones QB ends up being, running for their lives on virtually every pass play. This DLine is gonna also make our DBs a lot more reliable too.
