I want to recall this thread in a year two since everyone on this board appears to be an "expert" on how good or bad VY will be in the NFL.

With literally hundreds of threads bashing or supporting him, I thought I would start one final thread before the draft for everyone to chime in on their final thoughts before the draft so we can recall this at a later date. Whether you love him or hate him put some thought behind your opinion and take off your "orange" or "anti-orange" glasses.

Hopefully this board will keep these threads archived long enough for us to see who ends up really being right about VY.

My thoughts...

I have been for taking him ever since he declared. I think the guy is going to add a new dimension to the position not yet seen in the NFL and will flat out be a leader and a winner at the next level. VY could end up being one of those guys that changes the sport like Michael Jordon, Wayne Gretsky, Hank Aaron, etc. Regardless if he comes close to names like that or not, I think the Texans will seriously regret not taking him when it is all said and done.

You pretty much summed it up from my perspective.

However, I would qualify the regret statement for my purposes. That depends on how the Carr/Bush tandom work. If the Carr/Bush system works well and goes deep in the playoffs (minimum strong showing in an AFC championship game or two), there may not be that much regret. Not only do you have to be very talented and prepared to win a Super Bowl, a lot of luck usually falls along the way (be it no injuries, officiating calls, and/or bounces of the ball). I won't penalize the Carr/Bush tandom for being unlucky in those big games iwith regard to those areas listed.

I believe Young not only has all that ability, but seems always seems to make or find that luck, which is the final component you need.

Carr and Bush will be a disasterous failure, Vince Young will be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Mark it, i said it.

The Michael Jordan of football.

Hopefully we don't become known as the Portland Trailblazers of football.

I think he'll be a great QB, but maybe not right at first. Despite his future success, however, I don't think the Texans will regret not taking him. I think David Carr is going to shock people with what he does when he has protection and a good team around him. In the end, VY will be better than Carr (not hard to admit at all), but Carr will be better than good and much better than many expect. Add to that the fact that Carr is more ready right now with his experience in the NFL (despite what many believe) and that the Texans will be getting a great player other than VY in Bush or Williams (or those extra picks if a miracle happens and a Trade Down actually happens) and I don't think passing on Young is so bad at all.

With the popularity of Young in Texas and all of that, I would have been willing to take Young with the first pick IF Carr hadn't already been given that extension. Young would have taken a lot of fans away from the Cowboys. Other than that, I'm happy not taking Young.

There's no way to really know who's going to be worth all the hype in the future. Every time I see that someone is the favorite for #1 or coming close to it, I then start to hear about their flaws (real or not). Bush can't run between the tackles, Young has a bad throwing motion and isn't smart enough, Williams got all his sacks against weak teams and in just a few games, Leinart has a weak arm, Ferguson is not that impressive physically, etc. I don't know how legitimate some of those supposed flaws are, but we'll find out eventually.

Well I dont really have an opinion that is gonna come back and bite me in the rear. I see it like this.

I think he may not be intelligent or "savvy" enough to be a real "QB's QB" if ya know what i mean. I think his athleticism MAY allow him to be a great QB for someone, but it isnt a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination.

I dont like that he was not able to run a professional style offense in Texas, and I dont like that he is "weak" when it comes to making his reads and making plays with his arm that way.

All in all, I think that he has the potential to be a great NFL QB, but that he is a major risk. I think there is a BETTER chance that he will be either a bust, or just an average QB.

Not worth the #1 pick.

I think Young is going to be a great, dynamic QB with the potential to really have an awesome NFL career. I can't really say that I think he'll change the game like Jordan did for the NBA, but football is a different sport, IMO. Will he be another Johnny Unitas or Joe Montana? Who knows...he's got the talent and a good head on his shoulders for leadership, so anything is possible with this kid.

I don't think the Texans will regret taking him in the short term, because the player we get will be a playmaker this season and will have the chance to make an immediate impact. I thinking winning immediately is that important to this franchise, especially after 2-14 and four years of losing seasons.

Since the QB position is one of the toughest to develop, VY might not hit his stride for 3-4 years. At that point, though, I imagine that we might regret not taking him (unless our #1 pick takes us to the promise land before then).

Honestly, I'd have no problem with the Texans taking any of the top prospects, simply because we have so many needs. But we can't have them all, so it's a tough choice to make.

If at all possible, if the mods can do what they can(delete some argumentative posts including anything agaisnt David Carr, or Reggie Bush), To help keep things above the belt.

Make his own luck, that's the way I see it. He didn't allude those college defenders because of his speed, or because of his sheer athleticism, though what speed and athleticism(sp) helped. It was his ability to see the field, shrug off bad tackles, and sheer determination to move forward.

Vince is a playmaker, and a leader. It won't be long, before people start talking about his ability to carry his team. To will his team to wins, to championship games, to greatness.

He won't revolutionize the game, We've got great QBs, we've got great running QBs, and great throwing QBs, Vince will be the best of both.

Well I have said it before and I will say it again VY could become the next
Staubach, Montana, Elway or Brady! He already has the mindset of just give me the ball at the end and his team will win.
Time will tell and we will all see in the future if he lives up to his potential !

Vince Young sees the field possibly better than any QB to ever play the game. forget mechanics, forget where or how he takes snaps his ability to make the offense perform is the only thing that counts because it directly relates to wins. Makes plays with his arm or legs & this is a key case he prefeers to pass over run, it just seems he runs alot because when he does it translates into big plays. as he improves his shuffling ability to stay in the pocket by working with a NFL coach (one might think Sherman or Kubiac could be of at least some help) his accuracy will improve. his leadership ability will sell his linemen & give them the confidence to be much improved. overall he makes all his teammates better, his style and substance will be a force to be rekon'ed with wherever he goes :twocents:

Young has "it". Carr doesn't.

Question is: Will Carr + (whomever we draft) make the Texans better than Young - Carr would have?

I just can't answer yet.

a system QB that failed to understand a pro-style offense and had to get it dumbed down for him. operated said simple offense to perfection with elite talent around him on both offense and defense. when he played like crap his team still won, making him a "winner" only because he played on a great team. made horrible decisions in the offseason. basically he's the next david klingler/andre ware/akili smith/timmy chang/b.j. symons.

Depends on the situation he's placed in.

If the team that drafts him tries to make him into something he's not, then he won't be as big of a success...or possibly even a failure.

If the team that drafts him is willing to think outside the box and realize it's his all-around abilities that make him the player that he is, then he's going to be lights out.

There, I'm on record...sort of.

Not taking him will be a colossal mistake.

Can anyone really picture David Carr winning a Super Bowl? He is simply not the guy who will will his team to win.

Vince Young is SPECIAL. There is simply no other word for it. Anyone with two eyes can see this. Why can't Bob McNair?

Future NFL superstar, and I've said it for the last year. The Texans sealed their fate on this with their poor decision not to franchise Carr. Bob McNair will regret this forever.

He will be a Pro-Bowl QB in three to four years, but hey we will be o.k., everyone in the U.S. has said Reggie Bush is the clone of Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers, we are going to have a running back who will post 1500 yrds next year, thats what I have taken from this message board. He wil be in the pro-bowl next year, standing tall next to LT, and Larry Johnson. Reggie will break every record as a running back, HE IS the greatest in 30 years.

Vince Young has far too many problems for me to declare him a great QB in the near future.

He throws low, he tries to make too much with his legs, and his accuracy is decent but not great. His wide-outs were underrated this past year. What very few people have mentioned is a fault in his game is the fact that he holds the ball out many times when he is running, it isn't tucked away. I can't coulnt how many times he put the ball on the ground and he either dropped on it or his teammate did.

Does he have potential? Yes. Is he one of the riskiest picks in the draft? Yes. Is there a possibility he simply becomes the most athletically gifted QB that puts together a few highlight reals and never really leads his team anywhere? Absolutely.

Vince Young's questionable moves during the offseason scare me. His low wonderlic scares me. His mechanics and the fact that an offense had to be simplified for him scare me. His one read offense scares me. Basically, he seems like a project QB. He could be one of the best, but he has a lot to overcome.

David Carr's team wasn't as bad as David Carr made them look, my friend. David 1) can't read defenses 2) holds the ball too long 3) makes bad decisions under pressure 4) displays no leadership and 5) won't show much more than he already has... even with a great team around him.

Vince Young will be one of the most successful quarterbacks in the NFL and whoever lands him won't wait long. The team that takes him... especially if it's the Titans... will win more games than the Houston Texans in '06-07. Deion Sanders said VY is ready RIGHT NOW! He said if he needed a QB (which we desperately need) that he'd choose him first. Go to the Best D Sports Show website and you can watch the interview with Neon.

Because David Carr has no marketability. They're stuck with him. I can't see him EVER leading the Texans to a Super Bowl, let alone winning one. I don't know if I can even see him helping the Texans make the playoffs. They'll be a mediocre team with a mediocre quarterback.

Everybody talks about how bad the talent is at Tennessee but if Vince lands there the Titans will probably beat us twice with that lousy talent. He'll be a difference maker.

Hall of Famer who will carry the "made everyone on the team better" label. IMO, he will go down as one of the best field generals and locker room leaders ever.
