LenDale White says Vince > Leinart

travfrancis

Waterboy
"I would never trade away the three years I had with Matt as my quarterback," White said. "But if I was an NFL team, I don't know how you could not take Vince Young. A quarterback's job is to control the game. When a guy throws for 260 and runs for 200 in the biggest game of the year, he doesn't just control a game, he shows he can completely take it over. Nothing against Matt, but Vince has to be the No. 1 guy."

Throw teammates under bus - CHECK

Sounds like this guy is going to be great PRO!

Finally man, I was wondering when somebody on that team was gonna drop the whole 'My Buddy' routine and say somethin real. You can be a good teammate without blowing your guy out of proportion. Everyone on that team knows Leinart couldn't hold Palmer's hand koozie, but he could sit at the other end of the bench, which is what he did for two years. Why does Leinart have the better record of the two then? Might have something to do with the two first round picks in the backfield and another top 15 (in 2007) guy catching passes for you.

That's why I never understood when people say, 'well, if you really think Carr is the problem, you would want Leinart, not Young.' At least Carr can move around a good deal and put a pass on a line.

Not to mention having a steller OL that kept him fairly safe in the pocket.

That said, it would be a gross exaggeration to suggest that Leinart sucks. He's at least as good a prospect as Alex Smith was and much better than a Joey Harrington (who was picked 3rd in the year of his selection).

Why are you questioning his character?

Yikes. I guess it's safe to say that Leinart and White are not friends. Even if you think VY is better then Leinart you side with your teammate.

Wow, did this guy go to the Terrell Owens class How to be a great teammate 101. This won't endear him to his new QB. Just another in a long line of things that will make teams pass him by...

That's funny. Earlier this season, everybody was praising White for the way he handled having more of a limited role in USC's offense because of Bush. He even made light of it in a prank with Pete Carroll when they tossed the doll off the roof of one of the school buildings.

But now he's got questionable character issues because he thinks Young is a better QB than Leinart.

My how quickly the wolves turn.

If Jesus would come down and say that VY was the better prospect....this crowd would want to crucify him. At least they are predictable.

:)

That's so 2 milleniums ago. Let's just tie him to a chair and leave him in a nuke testing area. :)

Then when he comes back, we can make him President.

If we were going to take VY, we should Trade Down and take him, not Trade Up. Of course, Trading Down keeps looking less and less possible this year.

It's a free country, so White is free to express his opinions as he sees it.

He's not dissin' Leinart as much as he's propping Young. And after the Rose Bowl, who can blame him? It was one of the truly great performances in collegiate sports history. Even the anti-VY crowd can admit that (at least I hope they can!).

Don't get me wrong. I agree with the sentiment itself. To me, VY is a much better prospect longterm. I am not really all that high on Leinert myself. Having said that, it was very unclassy and unprofessional. On top of that, who is to say that the team that drafts Matt in round one couldn't draft Lendale in round 2. Lastly, would you want to be the QB of the team that drafts him, knowing he throws teammates under the bus at the first chance he gets. For me, it's not the names involved, it's that he did it at all. Shows his true colors. Never have been a fan of White, but this is another nail in the coffin. He could freefall.

If y'all think this is an example of a teammate throwing another under a bus, what was your impression of Cutler's comments about his teammates?

I'm looking for the link and will post it when I find it...

"I got it done without a lot of guys around me," says Cutler, whose father, Jack, is an Indiana state trooper. "Nothing against those guys, I love them to death, but I didn't have All-Americans scattered across the field and I had to adjust, I had to deal with pressure."
So I guess Cutler just took a nosedive off your draft charts because of his questionable character issues...right?

Just because something won't get you in trouble criminally doesn't mean it's a good idea...He should know people could still pass judgement on him anyway. And while he might have been focused on propping Young, he did flat out say that Young is the better prospect, and in the head to head competition that the two have basically been in for "Top spot", it's sort of a shot at Leinart that he hasn't earned it.

That is an astounding take by Lendale. It is probably very true but it is still very suprising to hear out loud.

Not sure I would add this to my concerns about Lendale but it definitely makes me appreciate Vince more.

hey hey, I never said what he did was a "good idea"!

I just said it's his right to say it. :ok:

Matter-of-fact, I think it is a dumb decision on his part, because there is nothing positive he can gain from doing this, and a whole lot of negative publicity has the potential to backfire on him.

We can prop VY's Rose Bowl performance all day long, but we're not worried about getting drafted next Saturday and the ramifications that statements like this could have on our wallets.

But, it's still his right to say it, which was my original point. :howdy:

I get a feeling there was a whole lot going on out there, out of control or not. Which WC investigative journalist/ will be the first to publish "Saturday Night Lights".?
