Excerpt of an article posted today by Todd McShay of Scouts, Inc.

1. Houston Texans (2-14)
Top-five needs: OT, OG, DC, WR, RB
The pick: +Reggie Bush, RB, USC
The Texans are surprisingly fielding far more trade offers for their pick than the Saints are at No. 2. If the deal is sweet enough, there's still a chance that the Texans could trade down a few spots (Jets?) and still get an elite player at a position of greater need, such as NC State DE Mario Williams or Virginia OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

Like i said before....i think this directly relates to the fact that everyone knows NO would like to (or at least is the most plausible) trade out because of the Brees signing. Which in turn has made our pick even more valuable for those who are in love with someone up high.....because they don't know who could be trading in at the Number 2 spot to take their man. It does make our pick even more valuable....to those dead set on one player.

But in the long run....i'm still thinking Bush....but if not Bush....i'm expecting something really big. Better be something big.

So McShay says that the Texans are getting far more offers than the Saints, and Mort says that no one's biting on the Texans' trade bait. Go figure.

I was getting bored with the draft during this final stretch - but all of these bluffing games at least make it mildly interesting.

Apparently not because according to Mort, the Jets have declined any of the trade offers from the Texans...

They're just trying to get the deal they want.

Cat & Mouse...

LoL, from what Mort said--Its not Cat and Mouse.

Texans--Would you consider trading up
Jets--Not interested

Texans--Have you reconsidered trading up
Jets--Not interested

Texans--Now have you considered trading up
Jets--Not interested.

Did you hear him or anyone confirm the Jets call the Texans? No.

It sounds to me like the Texans want out of the first pick BAD.

If the texans are forced to stay at 1, atleast theyll make the smart decesion and go with Mario Williams.

I've said all along the Texans are still the team to trade with if you want a guarantee of getting your man. If the Jets do trade up for Bush or Leinart then there is a chance we get Williams at 4 although I'm not so sure that is who they are targeting if they get a trade down. Could be D'Brick or Hawk or maybe they would just be happy to land any of them. The extra 2 picks would be sweet.

On another thread I posted that we could trade with the Jets and then turn around and trade with Oakland if VY is still on the board. Then we could get Vernon Davis or Michael Huff at #7 and have a bunch of picks in a very deep draft.

Chris Mortensen doesn't impress me as having any sort of knowledge really with whats going on.....for some reason he has always struck me as someone who offered their own opinion as if it were fact more often than really trying to provide the truth. And anyways Todd McShay seems like he is in a better position to not only be in 'the know' but also provide the truth considering he is representing an actual business that relies on accuracy of its info....as opposed to Mortensen....who works for a business that while great....definitely has been known to use their opinions as if they were 'facts'.

I usually think he is pretty accountable until he broke that story that the Texans guaranteed Pete Carroll & Reggie Bush that he would be taken #1 if he came out this year. A week later Mort changed his story to "Oh.....that was before the Rose Bowl"

Yeah i'm not saying he isn't credible....more than i'm saying i have the feeling he constantly poses his opinions as 'fact.' I mean not about ridiculous things, but his viewpoints on issues are always off a certain degree from the actual truth it seems. And i'm not saying he is the only one guilty of this on ESPN by any means....its just that Mortensen is a lot quicker usually to start giving his opinions. For instance like him saying repeatedly that Cutler might be the most coveted QB after the senior bowl. You would have thought after reading his article that we might be taking Cutler....

Mortenson is one of the more credible guys out there.

Wether it be with injuries all throughout the season, or just saying what he has been told. He is without a doubt one of the better guys to get information.

Cutler has risen to the point where he is neck and neck with Vince Young, and Matt Leinart. Since the senior bowl HE IS the most coveted, as his stock has increased immenesely. I read that article, and NO WHERE did he indicate Cutler was going to the Texans. He stated he could be the most coveted QB, which still could be true. Cutler could easily be a top 4 pick next week. Mortenson, and Mayock were both the first people to say this, and they should get credit for it.

You would have thought after reading his article that we might be taking Cutler....

see what that says....? i said specifically thought to prove a point that he was acting like Cutler was the new John Elway. Cutler is not the most coveted QB....period. I am not even going to bother with stating all the reasons why (just because his draft stock jumped incredibly...doesn't mean he is the top QB now.....and thats not just my opinion....go check any big board available....). And i will guarantee Cutler won't be taken in the top 4 next week.

Wether it be with injuries all throughout the season, or just saying what he has been told. He is without a doubt one of the better guys to get information.

and this means absolutely nothing....wow he can report injuries and things that have already occurred real great. how is this supposed to add to his credibility again???

This is coming from someone that thinks Todd Mckshay is better then Mortenson.

Ill be back after to Draft to prove you wrong about where Cutler goes. He will be the second QB selected, with a shot to be the first. Your just blattenly lying by saying Mortenson called Cutler "The Next Elway", or that he put anyone anything to indicate to any fans that Cutler should be the first pick. The Bottom line is he is an Elite QB prospect, and he said he "may" be the most coveted QB which still may be true. Wether it be Mike Mayock, Ron Jaworski, Cory Chavous, most people on the NFL network, ALOT of people have Cutler as the number 1 QB in this draft Besides Mortenson.

Just because Mortenson came out saying that the Texans are panicing and trying to trade down doesnt mean he's wrong.

And why does injuries and other league news make Mortenson more credible? He has all the updates injuries(AND OTHER NEWS) before anyone else. On Sundays he gives you updates before teams release there injury reports. What does that mean?--He talks to the teams himself. Being that-that information is always correct, one can assume he has good league sources. Just over a long span of time now, Mortenson has been correct ALOTTT more then incorrect. He tells you what is going on currently, the way he hears it. If the source is wrong, its wrong, But the majority of the time it isnt.

Again, just because someone says somthing bad about the team, doesnt mean hes wrong.

What the hell are you talking about? You must be some *** clown from another board because I wasn't talking about Mortensen saying anything bad about the Texans....everyone else on this topic was talking about how Mortensen said the Texans weren't going to be trading down....and how Todd McShay said he though we were trying. Your so confused you don't know what the hell you are talking about.....and anyways where has Mortensen ever said the Texans were panicking and trying to trade down....the point was the exact opposite....that he has specifically been quoted over and over again as saying the Texans WON'T be trading down.

And i said specifically that Mortensen acted like Cutler was the next Elway. If i would have said 'Mortensen said that Cutler was going to be the next Elway'....then i would be lying.

Learn how to read or something because your so far off its ridiculous. And wow Mortensen can update me with injury reports on Sunday that every other media figure at ESPN got at the same time....he just may have his name attached because he is one of their NFL correspondents. Look its obvious your from another board just trying to **** on the boards over here....just come back when you get proved wrong about Cutler.

LOL....you know Cutler is going in the top 4 and everyone thinks he is the best QB....where have you been man? sitting on campus at Vanderbilt?

You joined last month--. Ive been a member for almost 6 months now--Who are you to say anything about "What board im from when you just became a member?

"Cutler could easily go top 4" --My exact words. Common man, common sense. The Titans and Jets need Qb's--There's three Elite ones, and the Jets will not be considering Vince Young----So you do the Math. Its not like im making a bold prediction.

Chris Mortenson, Mike Mayock, Cory Chavous, most at NFL network, and Ron Jaworski all believe Cutler is the best QB in the class. --What I said. Which is correct, google it if you dont believe it.

Well you may have been a member for 6 months, but you have got half of all 33 posts today so i don't whether that exactly adds to your credibility as a fan. And i'm doing the math and i along with 99% of everyone else - i'm seeing either d'brick, williams, or if they go QB, leinart, filling that Jets spot.
