Omar Jacobs with one of our 3rds????

Texas_Thrill

Its OBVIOUS we aren't taking Vince. Though I'd HATE to see us in a situation where D. Carr pulls a Joey H and we're stuck with starting all over again instead of having a qb with actual starting capabilities learning w/o having to spend our #1 pick.

Your thoughts Texan Nation....

Jacobs in the 3rd. Ummm, no. He isn't worth a first day pick. He is over rated. I wouldn't touch him before the 5th. Besides the fact you do realize we just signed a #2 QB right?

I think Jacobs could be a decent pick but with one of our 3rds thats too high. Maybe we can get him with our 6th or 7th if we're lucky.

Minnesota will take him with one of their 2s or their 3rd.:stirpot:

I wasn't trying to get him as a #2.

Then what were you trying to draft him as?? A #3 on the first day??

If we wanted a #1 QB we could take VY, Leinart, Cutler.... why settle for Jacobs.

I see QB as a low priority this year. Carr has a new opportunity, Rosenfels was brought in by Kubiak because he likes him... I see no need for QB's

I'd actually like to see us draft DJ Shockley in the 7th round as a developmental QB project. I think the kid has tons of upside but didn't get much experience at Georgia. If that doesn't work out, he still has the athletic ability to convert to WR.

Who is this #2 QB we have just signed?? I know you are not talking about Sage? Jacobs is overrated, played in a very weak conference like the pac 10

the pac-10 is 50 times more talented than the MAC.

Hey I don't see why not. We draft RB's in every draft, so why not QB's too?

I dont see where the MAC is worse than the PAC 10. There was only two teams from the PAC 10 who were in the top 50 in the nation for defense?

Hey, you're not supposed to type that. It matters not.:sarcasm:

The only way we'll take Omar with on the first day, is if we take Mario with the first. There's no way we'll draft Reggie Bush, and a QB on the first day. Certain people know that, & that is why they are against it.

Carr has to be our man, if we are to get Bush.

41 TD and only 3INT

Thats sounds pretty good stats even if he is in a bad conference

I mean he didnt throw an INT against that Oklahoma Defense when he was a Sophomore, he just threw 2 TD.

I think this guy can be one of the best in the NFL, I just dont see him ending up a Texan, sorry Jacobs fans (IM one of them)

Jacobs is one of my dark horse guys that I would like to see in Minnesota. His talents would blend well with Brad Childress's system. He is more accurate than having a strong arm, but he is also one of the smarter QBs in this draft likely right below leinart in that category. He should be gone in the second if Minnesota does not find a QB in the first, if not then if he is available in the third Minnesota and any other team looking for a QB will be looking his way. The Texans personally do not need him. Look for us to draft a QB if we do with our low 7th rounder.

Agreed, I think Jacobs could end up being a huge steal in this draft. I think he'll go somewhere in the mid-2nd round, Minnesota, Dallas, maybe even as high as Detroit/Arizona depending on who ends up taking a QB in the 1st round. I think he is fairly similar to Vince Young without the running abilities, although he is athletic enough to scramble around some and make a few plays with his legs. Both have the same type of funky throwing motion, both ran an offense that was 90%+ out of shotguns, both have nice size for a QB. Vince obviously played against tougher competition and is better running the ball, but from what I saw of both Omar showed a better ability to make difficult throws into tight spaces, and obviously he put up better passing stats during his career. I agreee that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Texans to draft him though, we have too many other positions of greater need and if anything we need a veteran QB as a backup (presumably what Rosenfels is here for) rather than another young one.

jacobs is definitely a better passer than young, and has a stronger arm to boot.
I've seen them both play and that's just ridiculous...but you always dog VY so I can dig it.

If Texas didn't average 50 points a game Young's passing stats would be thru the roof (no need to pass when you have a giant lead)....but Young's team averaged 50 points a game...and it wasn't because Texas Longhorn teams historically aways score like this. It probably had something to do with a certain QB.

I have watched Jacobs throw he is way more side armed than Young is, he throws more like P. Rivers. People who say that Jacobs is as good as Young are just trying to start trouble, he is no where near the QB Young is in my opinion. Jacobs only had 2591 yards passing with 26 TD and 7 INT rushing 62 yards 1.6 yrd average and 1 TD. Vince Young had 3036 yrds passing 26 TD 10 Int 1050 Yrds rushing 6.8 yrd average and 12 TD

Just an FYI for further discussion/argument on this subject:

Vince Young
2003 84/143 (58.7%), 1155 yards, 6 TD, 7 INT, 130.6 college rating (78.1 NFL rating)
2004 148/250 (59.2%), 1849 yards, 12 TD, 11 INT, 128.4 college rating (79.9 NFL rating)
2005 212/325 (65.2%), 3036 yards, 26 TD, 10 INT, 164.0 college rating (109.2 NFL rating)
Career Totals 444/718 (61.8%), 6040 yards, 44 TD, 28 INT, 144.9 college rating (92.8 NFL rating)

Omar Jacobs
2003 19/28 (67.9%), 345 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, 218.5 college rating (149.6 NFL rating)
2004 309/462 (66.9%), 4002 yards, 41 TD, 4 INT, 167.2 college rating (119.9 NFL rating)
2005 195/321 (60.7%), 2591 yards, 26 TD, 7 INT, 150.9 college rating (104.3 NFL rating)
Career Totals 523/811 (64.5%), 6938 yards, 71 TD, 11 INT, 162.5 college rating (115.0 NFL rating)

I still stand by my comparison of the two guys' abilities:

with a 1st day pick? Is this a backdoor "Carr Sucks" thread?

I wasn't putting this out there as a carr thread at all. I was putting it out there that if D Carr happens to not pan out even with Kubiak here why not start prepping one. If carr works out great. Then we have a trade option with the other. Something like San Diego w/o the expense or stupidity that surrounded their situation.

If its a 3rd or 4th there is no rush for him to play. He sits 3rd string and learns. If carr works out then then jacobs would be traded or whoever would be traded.

This thread was speaking of an insurance policy b/c if we have carr become a bust....then we are set back 3-4 years all over again. Why not make that 2 instead?

SAGE? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHaaaa
We will be finished!!!

never got to see much from rosenfels in miami, but when he was he didn't impress. he was absolutely atrocious against cleveland in a 22-0 loss (he started). he came in the 2nd half against buffalo and came back to win, getting the ball to chris chambers 15 times and the game-winning TD. seems like he relied a LOT on chambers there, since he threw it in his direction over TWENTY times just in ONE HALF. doesn't even seem POSSIBLE. bottomline, don't rely on rosenfels to be your go-to if things get rough with carr.

Jacobs is another one of those MAC like guys that just do pretty well in the NFL. Mainly because they learn the game of football to make up for their lack of athleticsm. Jacobs is a stud at 6'4" 230 he is prototype size and his speed is enough to escape pressure. He has a shotput throw, but he does well with it. Some tweaks to his mechanics he will be a solid backup and eventual starter somewere. BTW if Jacobs had the team that Young had Jacobs would be challenging Leinart as the top QB taken.

just about any QB on that texas team would be challening leinart for the top spot. a mere product of the system.

Vince was a product. He scored a 6 on his test and you claim he can read defenses? I question if he can read period.

i argee that we have a no2 qb and that we could add more later,i also think if they need a qb they should trade the no2 qb we have and get timmy chang. that just my opinion we getting alot of mess of texans qb. i think we just need other rb case d davis get hurt or the other way around.

to be fair, he actually scored a 7.

from what i understand, if you score under a 10 you're deemed illiterate.

yeah, because young faced so much defensive pressure! err, maybe not.

Young didn't face much pressure because teams had to respect his ability to scramble. You put Leinart back there and defensive ends will err, tee off on him.

actually he didn't face pressure because UT had the best offensive line in the country. even when the opposition blitzed he felt nothing.

thanks.

shall i say it again that QB ratings in college are useless? shaun king holds the single-season record for QB rating, and michael vick's rating as a freshman is higher than any one of the seasons from all 4 of these quarterbacks. ryan dinwiddie holds the career QB rating record.
