Differences between drafting Bush and Williams

I watched Around the Horn earlier and they said Williams was brought in for a visit. They also said Bob Mcnair said,"Williams can do just as much on defense as Bush can on offense." Every journalist except Michael Smith said the Texans were crazy and Bush is the only guy we should be picking (one other guy said it is either Bush or Young however I forgot his name). Smith said that Mcnair is right, that Williams will be the next Julius Peppers, albeit bigger and faster.

Basically, im asking if yall agree that Williams can have just as much of an impact than Bush.
Yes, he will have that same impact. He should also contribute at a higher rate faster, while he still also has a higher ceiling.

I don't think anyone can have a higher ceiling than Reggie Bush. Would you rather take the chance on possibly the best RB to ever play the game or the best DE. I'd take the RB

They are both playmakers, one for offense, one for defense. What do we need more? We have dunta on defense and AJ on offense. It is an interesting choice, Reggie is flashier and will get more attention and can break a TD at any given touch. Mario will make other Qb's look like David Carr last season. It's a toss up, pick one and move on. We did just sign Weaver and we have Babin and Peek for DE's but then again we have Morency and Davis at RB. This has all been said before though. Let's pick one and work towards the playoffs.

The same way that ppl said the main drawing point for RB was his versatility, so does Williams have versatility. We've seen how effective Troy Polamalou has been with his moving all over the field. How much more dangerous would a player be that you can see him at end on one play and then shifted back to linebacker on the next. Like they always say he doesn't have to line up there much, but other teams will have to take that into account and plan for it. Smith our DC said we would see some fronts of 3-4 so imagine this if you will.

A team that prepares for our 4-3 look with Mario as an end will be knocked off their gameplan if Smith is shifted to the end position and Williams moves back into the linebacker position. With 4.66 speed he is near OLB speed and well into MLB speed. With his huge wingspan the guy is not a DE he is a Defensive Weapon and the target is whatever team he faces. As with Bush, Williams talents can be utilized to create many defensive mismatches.

Williams didn't even have the biggest impact on his team. It was Manny Lawson as someone that made it a point to watch the N.C state games this year I was amazed by both of the skills but I felt Williams didn't always give 100% unlike Lawson who was all over the place sacking QBs and chase RBs down from the back.

Yes, I think he can have as much of an impact and an immediate impact as Bush would.

Agreed, I think either Bush or Mario would be great picks for this team and should be a huge building block to getting us in playoff contention for years to come. My personal preference is to go with a dominant defensive player, especially since we have an offensive guru as our coach and he should be able to make things work on offense without having to get the top stud for it.

I've read Super Mario also has been compared to Reggie White.
Picture Julius Pepper's athleticism mixed with Reggie White's strength and that's what Mario Williams is.

haha, you must not have watched many games if you think Lawson had a bigger impact than Mario, either that or you just don't understand how defense works in football. Mario put up better stats than Lawson plus he definitely impacted opposing offenses' game plans much more.

Mario definitely does present many different looks for opposing offenses. We could run so many different sets that he'd be very effective in, imagine having these packages that could all be very effective and keep opposing offenses guessing:

Normal 4-3:
M.Greenwood------------K.Wong/S.Cowart-------------S.Orr
-------M.Williams------R.Smith-------S.Payne-----A.Weaver

Speed 4-3 (passing situations):
M.Greenwood-----------K.Wong/S.Cowart---------------S.Orr
---------A.Peek------A.Weaver-----R.Smith-----M.Williams

3-4:
A.Peek---------K.Wong--------S.Cowart--------M.Greenwood/S.Orr
-----M.Williams-------S.Payne--------A.Weaver

Ive been saying all along that Mario Williams is 1b. If he was in any other draft besides the one with the PResident, he would be that number 1 pick.

He is like Richard Seymour and Peppers mixed into one.

I would love to grab Mario Williams. We are weakest on the defensive side of the ball. We have no game changers on defense we don't really have any guys the other team have to account for. With Mario all that changes.

Reggie could be great too, but I think we are well stocked on offense with what we have added in free agency.

I just with trading down was a more viable option. If the Jets would bite with both #4 and #29 plus a pick from next year I would be really tempted to take it and take

#4 Mario Williams
#29 Eric Winston
and #33 Davin Joseph.

Talk about winning the war in the trenches.

The good thing about this is we really can't go wrong with either bush or mario. the only thing you have to think about is are we building for five years or ten years. i love bush but i don't know any running backs that small that last really longer than 5 years . yea you have warrick dunn but his splits time with vick and duckett. but there are lots of veteran DE still making an impact look at strahan.but we shouldn't lose either way!

If you factor in career length, DE would be around longer then a RB. How many years did Reggie White/Lawrence Taylor play at a top level compared to Marshall Faulk/ Gale Sayers?

I agree with Trapped's comment, if not for Bush - Williams would be the number pick for us this year.

After the first two, your comparions are laughable.

Here are my 5 that he reminds me of. I think he will have the same type career and impact, and has the potential to be better than any of them:
Tony Dorsett
Marshall Faulk
L. Tomlinson
Barry Sanders
Gayle Sayers
