Smith working out on his own
Carolina wide receiver Steve Smith is not participating regularly in the Panthers' voluntary off-season conditioning program again this year.
Smith, who declined comment on the subject, is working out with his personal trainer and recently caught passes from quarterback Jake Delhomme. He has said in the past that by working on his own schedule, he gets to spend more time with his family.
He forfeits a $100,000 workout bonus but has said the extra family time makes it worth it.
It doesn't seem to be a problem for the Panthers.
"(Coach) John Fox talks to all the guys and has an understanding with them," said general manager Marty Hurney. "Everybody goes through John and (strength and conditioning coach) Jerry Simmons and it's all worked out."

He must not be dedicated then. HAven't we heard this somewhere before? hmmmm.
 
Hey he is willing to forfeit $100,000 to spend time with his fam, how often do you hear players doing that

How many millions is he making? If I was in his shoes..id give up the 100k too. If im already making more money than I can spend, then id rather give up the 100k for family time.

It only seems odd to people who make that kind of money, or less, in a year.

I can always find ways to spend money. 100K is maybe a nice car for these guys.

One thing people seem to forget. You do your job to earn money FOR your family to be comfortable. Out of all the money he gets. $100k is a petty change to getting good family time. Plus, there might have been something we are unaware of that might be better for him to stay home.

yes but you can't bring back time lost on your kids, especially when they are younger.
 
He's got all of training camp and the season to be with the team. It's better for him and his family for him to stay home. $100,000 is probably like a dollar to him.
 
The fact that someone said 100k is a really nice car???? As opposed to your wife and kids.

We always talk down on these guys about being money hungry but he is giving up 100K to make sure his kids are raised properly and ya'll find a reason to rag on him?

I just hope on hope ya'll have no kids.
