ColtPower has learned that kicker Jose Cortez has agreed to a new contract and will be returning to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2006 season.

Cortez's signing was confirmed by his agent, Bruce Tollner. And although he didn't want to discuss any contract details, he shared some insight on why Cortez opted to return to Indianapolis.

"Jose is fired up to be back with the Colts," he told ColtPower earlier this evening. "They're a first-class organization with Bill Polian and head coach Tony Dungy. And they have a great special teams coach in Russ Purnell."

With veteran kicker Mike Vanderjagt moving on, the Colts enter their offseason workouts with an open competition between Cortez, second-year kicker Dave Rayner, and rookie Shane Andrus.

Anyone remember Cortez with the Cowboys or Niners? This could become very interesting if Cortez wins the job.

How many teams will he be on this year?

I'll put the over/under at 4.

Where did Vanderjagt go?? IMO the Colts are getting weaker so far this off-season.

Agreed. I am telling you, we will challenge the Colts this year and beat them once next year.

Once, if they keep losing all these players we might just sweep them:confused:

Please, he will NOT be our FG kicker, only the KO specialist.

And to beat us your team will probably have to get better while ours has to deal with losing a few players.

The tides are changing in the AFC South.
The.......Titans are.......getting better.
As are the Jacksonville/Los Angeles Jaguars/Bentleys.

You'll still sweep us, though, don't worry.

We might still struggle to beat the Colts this year.

Unless we meet them in the Playoffs, then we can ride all the way to victory on the back of a good old Peyton Manning Choke.

Oh, sorry it was his lines fault, that's right. :stirpot:

BRING IT ON! :redtowel:

Good comeback. I've only seen one playoff game where Manning played bad enough to lose the game. The 03/04 AFC championship game in Foxboro.

But if someone's gotta ride the choke, why not the Texans. lol
