CAsserly Gone to NY

Veteran
I know Shannon Casserly (his daughter) and she told me they were going to be moving soon.

I dont know what that means, but it sounds like from what she said that he is taking the NY job.

Just thought i'd share the inside info.

im actually a little nervous to be losing him (if we are).. I think he does a good job drafting.

I believe you Jac! I have some inside contacts with different teams, and occaisionally we "regular" people or fans do get information before the likes of John Clayton and other media types. Keep diggin' and see what you can come up with. :yahoo:

I'm with you on this one Grid, I think he gets a raw deal on this board and is a reputable GM....

If McNair brings Reeves in to fill the GM role would that make us the Houston Broncos??

I dont see Reeves coming here. I think they were being honest when they repeated over and over that Reeves is not interested in being GM.

I wonder if we could pull Rich McKay from the Falcons. I like his track record.

I don't know about y'all. even if I were filthy rich. I don't think I would want a house that big. 7 bathrooms? I figure 1 and 1/2 for my wife and 1 bathroom for me would be enough.:spy:

I'm with ya on that one. And it's so weird - the few people I know with giant houses - they're all couples who bought the house after their kids were grown and gone. It makes zero sense.

I can understand it somewhat.. I mean someday me and the wife want to build "our" house. Basicly she wants a room for her hobbies..i want a room for my hobbies.. and we wouldnt mind a couple of spare guest bedrooms. I want a library as well, and an office.. and she will probably want an office.

all in all.. that is about 8 rooms. We would want a master bath.. a guest bath.. a downstairs bath.. probably one more bath in a strategic spot for the offices and library..and id want a bath around my gameroom.

so thats about 5 bathrooms.

8 rooms, 5 bathrooms. Big house... but I dont know how you would need 7 bathrooms.. i was being pretty flamboyant adding 5.

Casserly is not in control of the final choice for the position. There will be a vote. The vote has not taken place yet. Also, Casserly may be wanting to GTF out of Houston regardless of if he gets the job or not. It will not hurt him financally or his reputation. Most of his peers would agree bringing in Reeves before the end of the season was a slap in the face. Also, rich people sell there homes no matter how expensive if the profit is there....this is why they are rich to begin with.

What's the guys name that seems to follow Reeves around? I could see him as a replacement.
Welcome, Eric!

3rd Fred Weary - underperformer
3rd Charles Hill - Total Bust

2003
2nd Bennie Joppru - Bust
3rd Antwan Peek - underperformer
3rd Seth Wand - underperformer
3rd Dave Ragone - doesn't play

Supplemental pick - top pick in 2nd round Tony Hollings

2004
2nd 3rd & 4th Jason Babin - underperformer

2005

I love Casserly in the draft as long as someone else handles all 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Nice list. I wonder what that list will look like after this coming season. I'm not saying you're wrong mind you, just that it's possible that it won't look all that grim. I'd say that this season I'm very interested to see if all these busts and underperformers stay the way they "are".

2nd Jabar Gaffney - underperformer
In Philly I'll be wondering if he breaks out.

2nd Chester Pitts - great pick
Yep, that one was a winner.

3rd Fred Weary - underperformer
So far but it looks like he's going to get his shot.

3rd Charles Hill - Total Bust
Yeah he was.

2003
2nd Bennie Joppru - Bust
No way to forsee three straight years of injury

3rd Antwan Peek - underperformer
As a pass rushing DE? We'll see.

3rd Seth Wand - underperformer
Says Joe Pendry. The benching of Seth Wand left me scratching my head. Wonder what he'll be like under the current regime.

3rd Dave Ragone - doesn't play
No he doesn't. I scratched my head at this pick when it was made and I'm still scratching my head over it. Nothing against Ragone or anything. Backup QB's are neat things to have when starters get hurt. I just didn't understand why we took one in the 3rd when we did.

Supplemental pick - top pick in 2nd round Tony Hollings
Probably playing dominos with Charles Hill somewhere.

2004
2nd 3rd & 4th Jason Babin - underperformer
Like Peek I'm curious to see if this changes when he goes back to his previous position.

2005
2nd & 3rd Phillip Buchanon
I expect improvement from Buchanon. Not Pro Bowl improvement but I think he'll look more like a corner in someone elses defense. He was a lousy fit in Fangio's defense, that's certain. He'll never be the shutdown hitter that we wanted but he'll pick off some passes (and give up some long passes) if he's allowed to play man to man.

Here is the # to my safe 4 21 9 21, dont tell anyone.

Give me a break. I am sure you are a close friend of Carr to right?

its not like Casserly is the president of the US for christ's sake. i'm sure his daughter is allowed to talk about the families affairs in public.

I think all GM's make "good" and "bad" moves. Please realize this. GM's are not madame Cleo. They have no way of seeing injuries or attitudes developing other than the players past history. Take TO for instance. I don't blame SF's GM for picking the guy, but Philly's GM should be fired for that. I think the best thing that happened for the Texans was TO going to Dallas. Of course JJ won't fire himself. I wish Casserly the best and hope he does fine wether he stays or goes. If the Texans do get a new GM this year, then we can all look forward to some mistakes and some good picks. I just hope for more good picks.

Cass is an ok GM that does what his coaches want. The fact that our old coaching staff was inept does not reflect bad on Casserly. Going and getting the guys they wanted and the compensation to get said guys is Casserly's fault. Add Ferenz ability to overpay anybody and you have the situation that we all ***** about on this board. Cass is well respected in the NFL offices and could be angling for a job there.

It'll make more sense after 30 years of marriage, and the kids leaving the nest.

Good. He's worse GM in the NFL.

I'm sure he will stay through the draft. Even if he gets hired for that position it will take several weeks to go through the interview process and the process of picking a replacement. A family can move to a different city and still work in the old one for a few weeks.

As far as the draft is concerned, you still need someone that can consolidate the information at the very least. I'm sure in most places the coach gives the GM parameters (in the very least) of the type of player he wants at different positions. Kubiak might be the head of the train, but he hasn't watched all the film on the college kids and he hasn't done the leg work. The scouts have done that and Casserly is consolidating the info. He will likely finish that out and then take the NFL VP job the first of May.

why don't you look at the GM in Detroit and get back to me with that "worst GM in the NFL" opinion. Matt Millen signed COREY BRADFORD to a 4 year contract. if cass leaves, he will leave the Texans in better shape than the Lions are in right now.

Casserly is an opportunist in the first degree, we'll find out how he really feels about this team depending on whether he stays or leaves. He has the ability now to be GM of one of the great turnaround stories in the NFL, or get a cush job that will firmly implant him in the network forever.

It is probably the smart move for Casserly and his family long term. There is an incredible amount of stress in performance-production industries and all the jobs are temporary. The NFL gig wouldn't have near the stress of having no job security.

It's hard to criticize someone for moving up in the business. Along with Vinny, I believe this new job is more stable than the current one he has. Heck, half the people here were calling for his head 2 months ago. That doesn't happen very often to an NFL VP. If he gets this job, all the best wishes to him and his family.

I told you all i knew his daughter as my inside source, there is a thread but i dont wanna look it up right now. (but i will later to gloat)

unfortuneatly now my inside source no longer has an in with the team.

hahahaha i was right, but my inside source is gone... but i knew it.

i also predict a hurricane hitting the US in the next 6 months.

Andre Johnson/OL, Heath Shuler, Micheal Westbrook, Desmond Howard, some Notre Dame Cornerback= Not good at drafting... Although, David Carr, Mario Williams, Domanick Davis, Andre Johnson were good picks

Not really. All you can potentially have blamed CC for was Harrington. Detroit picked before us and chose Rogers. While it is possible that Detroit could have taken AJ and thus Rogers would have been there for is not something you could potentially blame CC for. Also we dont know how good AJ would have been in Detroit. Would he have suffered from the Rogers bad luck and get injured in 2 straight seasons. We do not and will never know.

The funny thing is, many Casserly supporters were always quick to point out his "success" in Washington. Even funnier is he was brutal in Washington. The man inherited a Joe Gibbs Super Bowl team that did win one while he was GM (his first season maybe), and then ran them into the ground after Gibbs left. Just look at the Skins records during the mid to late nineties. For some reason only Redskin fans know how bad he was there.

You are right though, he did draft a little better here in Houston. However the results were even worse than he had in Washington. Thank gawd he is gone.

And your point is? Harrington was the second QB drafted in the 2002 draft.... we picked Carr. You know what is the same about Harrington and Carr? Everything except for one small detail.... SACKS. So tell me.... why should we feel remorse for passing up a guy who has identical numbers to our QB, but did it with less pressure?? Carr is a better QB.

Our best pick was definitely Domanick. No two ways about it.

Is this sarcastic? Chester "Roadkill" Pitts?

I would put him with the underperformers or busts.

Chester Pitts was a good 2nd round selection. I wouldn't call it GREAT and I would NOT call him "roadkill". :twocents:

there were definately better, more impact players chosen after pitts, but he has been one of the half decent spots on a line that has been borderline JV HS level for years.

Believe it or not Herv the Bears signed Hollings.:hmmm:

Ok can't let this one go guy... You gotta a guy rated as a left gaurd coming into the draft. The guy busts his rear end off for you for three years, out of position, makes himself into a manageable LT and you're beating the guy down ?

Com'on guy. He IS our best o-lineman. Period. And it's not his fault he got shoved into an untenable postion. Give me them hard working blue collar, over acheivers every time. You wanna poke a finger at someone over last year. Look up folks manning the interior. . My book says some of those folks get their buss tickets punched this summer. Pitts will not. He will have a spot. Pitts was a hit for CC.

This probably has nothing to do with much but Carr seem a couple more years mature than Joey Harrington, I could be completely off about this but he still just seems like a kid. I think/hope Carr will be great here.

Not sure what team you're watching but Chester is our best lineman (...and save the "that's not saying much" comeback).

He's versatile, quick, strong, smart, great guy. We are lucky to have him and he would be a starter on most OLs in the NFL. He just wants to settle into a position - even though it may be at G where he doesn't want to be.
