5k? (Is it possible for Carr to pass for 5 000 yds?)

Is it possible for Carr to pass for 5 000 yds? With AJ, Moulds (?) DD, Bush(?), Putzier and Walters available. These guys do not drop many and I think DC will go crazy. I know Kubes likes to run, but man these guys can be some horses! Ideas?

is it possible...sure...is it likely...no...i think a good season stat for carr would be around 3600+yds with around 28tds and 10ints...but here's the key to all of that...absolutely no more than 30 sacks this season for carr

Wow, that's less than 2 sacks per game. You sure are optimistic. Hope you are correct.

honestly i got to say no. look at the offense we may be running next year. DD and Bush are too big of threats to not get the ball into their hands. Kube ran a run first/ pass second offense in denver, and he almost had 2 1000yrd rushers and still had a 1000yrd WR (i think that Smith did). And honestly, DD and Bush have way more upside than bell and anderson (not to mention younger). Kube is all about clock control and if we have those two running the ball why would we pass? he is getting the offensive line in check, and imagine if we drafted Darryn Colledge. thats our Matt Lepsis of the future right there.

Do not expect an immediate 7 to 8 game turn around this year, because we haven't really touched the D, and we were last in the league in that category last year too. i give Buch one more year at CB, then he is toast. we will get a FS in the draft next year that will be worth a damn, and then we will have an actual contender to root for:yahoo:

i am new to the boards here so if i am wrong on anything let me know, but i just wanted to get my:twocents: in

GOOOOO TEEXXANNSSSS!!!!!!!

Kube loves to run the ball, because without the run established you cannot expect to pass the ball successfully. If defenses have to respect your running that means that safety and or linebacker that would fall back into coverage has to come closer to the line and Play Action is successful then as they will hesitate allowing the WRs to get behind the linebackers and have a better chance of 1 on 1 coverage with one of the sides as an option.

The way I see it defenses are going to have to pick their poison. They will double AJ naturally or at least try to hide it. This will allow 1 on 1 with Moulds (if he gets here) and walter in the slot which until they respect him for the WR he is will get several catches behind the linebackers and in front of the safeties. especially of they try to cheat and slide over to Moulds on the pump fake. Then they will start to play the middle more allowing Bush to hit the outside as Walter takes his blocks in and AJ or moulds sets him free!!!!

I know everybody will pitch a fit for this, but I say yes:

IF we run that kind of offense that has him throwing the ball enough.
IF he proves to be the kind of quarterback I believe he can and will be.

Two big ifs, but I think he can do it.

Everyone is painting Kubiak a certain way, but if you remember he has said he will do in effect what seems to be right. If we need to pass to win that's what we will do. If we need to run to win that's what we will do. The Texan's offense has the potential to be right up there with the rest of them. We will just have to see how it comes together.

Are you seriously ill? Wow!

I think that if Carr ever does that, it will be at least 2 yrs. from now. I've been on his side and I believe he will improve drastically this year, but I would be shocked if he did that well so soon after that train wreck last year.

Assuming he stays healthy, I would expect about 4000yds: 250 yds per game. Man, I'm excited about the season now!!!

5,000 yards is too high to be even a possibility in my book. The most passing yards by a qb last regular season was only 4110. With Kube's run first system and splitting carries between DD and Bush(?) I would be very happy if Carr were able to even come close to 4000. If Carr gets a new season high for his career (current best is 3531 in 2003) it should end all the debate of if he is the future or not. I am not a huge Carr fan but I will surely be rooting for him!

No possible way. Like the person said, only Marino has done it. As good as the offense looks, I don't think they are as good as the Colts are or as the "Greatest Show on Turf" was with the Rams. 3500 yards would be nice though.

Yeah, I'm thinking 4000 should be an attainable, but not easy, goal for this year. Of course, the play-calling may limit that.

PS-Um, dalemurphy....I don't think Capers is coming back. :)

5,000 is a little much, I think if everything goes right it will be between 3,700 and 4,200 IF that. Hopefully we wont have to air it out at the end of the games playing catch-up and just run the clock out to seal the win...

Unless it was Indy and the boys said pay back time...................

:redtowel: How about taking 3500 yds and 25 TDs . Bush having 1025 yds rushing and 500 yds recieving and 13 TDs gets OROY . AJ gets 1050 yds on 89 catches for 10 scores . DD has 1200 yds rushing , and Moulds 600 yds and 6 tds .

People, get a grip! This is a 2-14 team. We have improved, but 5K yards??? Now some of this seems to be coming from the VY crowd to set unreasonable expectations so that they can say "See I told ya he sucked, didn't get 4K yards and 30 TDs" or some other clap trap. For this club, coming off the season we have and the improvements we have made and the type of offense we will likely run....3,500 yards would be a strong season with 20-22TDs passing sounds do able and about right. This team will likely win 6-8 games this year. The 07 season though MAY see a playoff spot if we improve as much as we SEEM to perhaps have this year.

Carr: 5000 yds., 40 tds., 5 ints.

DD: 1000 yds., 4.5 ypc.

Bush: 1300 yds., 6.5 ypc.

Texans: ppg: 35 Opponents: ppg: 9

Superbowl: Texans: 42 Seahawks: 12

Okay, this is absolutely insane. 5,000 yards. Marino's the only guy to have done it. Carr's gonna do it in a run first offense.

Blame all the people you want, but it took him 8 games this year to get a 200 yard passing game. He threw for 300 yds 0 times this year on a team that was perpetually trailing. Say what you want about the new offensive coaching, but if this team is successful he probably won't have many more attempts than in years past. 27 attempts per game this year. 5.88 ypa. 2500 yards. He's gonna double that right. He's gonna average 312.5 yards having only thrown for 300 yards thrice in his NFL career.

Indy had 5800 yards total last year.

Exactly, our passing offense couldn't even get easy yards in garbage time last year.

Great stats above to point out. I have been posting about them for some time. Carr has not blown the doors off yet in a game, and we are talking about a season?

If Carr does have those states though, Kubiak will be considered an amazing coach!

No he won't throw for 5K or even 4K and we shouldn't want him to. If he racks up that kind of yards it only means two things, no running game, and the team was so far behind early that the only option was to pass, I'll skip that stat action. 38 Hun should be about the top edge in yards that anyone should expect out of Carr and 3200-3500 with a top TD/int ratio would be ideal in my eyes. Let's control the ground game...

Here's a thought: The pass protection radically improves this season along with Carr's targets and a more threatening running game. As a result, Carr is so comfortable in the pocket and the game seems so much simpler that he quickly becomes a probowl-caliber QB... Kind of like Kurt Warner moving from the Arena league into the NFL and how that chaos prepared him for it.

Is it September yet?

Gotta co-sign on this one. The moves they've made on offense so far are much better than in the past. Sure we've gotta see how it all comes together next season.

Lets not forgett, Kubes is a QB! Im sure that if he wakes up one Sunday morning and says "heck, I've got two Pro-Bowl wide receivers, lets go crazy!", Carr would have to opportunity to put up big numbers. I think that 5000 is a little bit too far, but with the skill players we now have (counting Moulds), anything is possible.

Anyway, for the upcoming season Im going with 3800-4200 yards, 27 TD's and 8 INT's, bassically Jake PLummer. I think that if we continue having offseason's of this quality, we could see a far differant team in the next four years then we've seen the last four.

I could think of over a 100 Qb's that I think could do it before bringing up Carr. Do I still think he coud do it? Nope.

By the way it has only been done once:
Most Yards Gained, Season
5,084 Dan Marino, Miami, 1984
4,830 Kurt Warner, St. Louis, 2001
4,802 Dan Fouts, San Diego, 1981

Great reply, peope lets not get to far overboard with this offseason. I said the offseason grade was a B+, not the ability of David Carr. David Carr will never throw for more than 4000 yrds in a single season. #1 Kubiak is going to run the heck out of the ball, #2 Carr is not that good of a QB, #3 To honestly think Carr will be under 30 sacks next year is a up-in-the-clouds dream. I think he could be under 40 next year if the OL stays healthy. Carr could end up throwing more TD's than previous years, but to believe 5000 yrds, This is not Madden my friends. I wish it were, but its not!

To basically answer the question, no it's not possible. Let's get realistic: 5,000 yards has only been done by Dan Marino. Now just because we have some great targets for David Carr doesn't mean he can go from zero to hero. It would be stupid to even compare Dan Marino and David Carr. We had a below average offense last year and we added a couple key players this year, but the only way David gets close to 5,000 yards is if we pass the entire game each week. Asking for 5,000 yards from David is like asking for a rushing record from Bush while splitting carries with Davis in his first year.

Yeah, cuz David can run too.

5000 yds. passing.

1000 yds. scrambling.

You mean basically Peyton Manning. 3747 yds. 28 td/10 int. You really think Carr's that type of player. That conclusion can't be based on anything he's done in the league. Or did we just flip AJ, Putzier, and Moulds for Moss, Gates, and Owens?

Only if the NFL creates a rule that says all teams that play against the Texans must count to "five one-thousand" before they begin to rush the paser.

Halle Berry will show up at my door before david gets 5000 yards passing. Heck, with the backwards running he does, he wont get 1000 yards rushing in his CAREER

To answer the original question: no. He's not a quality NFL quarterback. He is Tim Couch and Joey Harrington.
