NFL | Cowboys vs. Buccaneers on Thanksgiving
Mon, 27 Mar 2006 11:16:22 -0800

ESPN.com reports NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced the Dallas Cowboys will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thanksgiving.

Yep...I felt pretty good about our chances for the game...well..until we went 2-14. I thought with a new coach though and the #1 pick, there might have been enough of a story there to generate some interest. Atleast as much as the damn Buccaneers, who really cares about them?

You didn't actually expect them to host the Texans did you?

Sliver of hope that Tagliabue crushed unmercifully. Usually I miss part of the game during Thanksgiving since we're flying back from Georgia, so I thought I would get to see it this year with some of my relatives.

Fox has the Dallas Turkey Day game, and CBS has the game in Detroit. So there was no chance the Texans would play the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

Lucky is right. The networks are the deciding factor if its a NFC or AFC team that plays at Detroit and Dallas each year.

Agreed. If it was some big divisional rival, say Cowgirls vs Philly, I would get it. TB? Who gives a rats *** outside of Florida?

Cowboys/Texans would have been the better matchup by far, especially in this state.

It's too bad that the NFL doesn't wait until after the draft to make their schedule. I'm sure that the Reggie Bush fans on the left coast would like a primetime game of their Heisman hero. I'd like to see another Houston - Dallas Sunday night game.

Madden: "That Reggie Bush is one of the fastest guys on the field. He's faster than everyone else, that makes him one of the fastest guys on the field."

Michaels: "I can't believe Disney traded me for a cartoon bunny."

Madden: "Bush can run. He can catch. You see him and then BOOM, he's gone!"

Michaels: "What's worse is that I can't interview the Desperate Housewives during halftimes."

Madden: "You know Al, Reggie Bush reminds me of a bunny. A bunny that can catch."

:blah: Yeah, Madden is bad, but Michaels doesn't make much sense either. Remeber when they went on at Christmastime about Madden's tie for about 15 minutes ? *****s . . .

Each year Dallas and Detroit take turns hosting an AFC team on Thanksigiving while the other hosts a team from the NFC. This year is the Cowboys turn to host an NFC team, so we had no chance to get the Thanksgiving day game.

oh boy, more talk about turducken...whoah, just realized the first four letters...nasty...

anyway, I didn't think the Texans would get a Thanksgiving Day game. I hate that Dallas and Detroit always get them, because they don't always make the best of games. Matter-of-fact, I'd say the overwhelming majority of Thanksgiving games are weak and boring.

At least I get to make fun of my Cowboys relatives for selling out and loving TO now!! :heh:

I was/am thinking we have more of a chance for our first MNF game than a "Holiday game." When we were on National TV last year, it was ridiculous. That was the Seahawks game, wasn't it ? While we all know/think/hope that this will be a different team, I think the NFL Bigwigs don't want to put us on National yet. If not, I think we will be for the 2007 season if we draft Reggie. I mean, look at Atlanta. They had 3 MNF games last year & Thanksgiving against the Lions all because of the star power of Michael VIck.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I know it's "tradition" but it would be nice to rotate the teams around some. MLB learned that the world didn't come to an end when the Reds quit being the first pitch of every season and the NFL should realize the league won't implode if we mix up the turkey day games. Heck, they might even pickup a few viewers by putting on games that matter.

i would not have expected it, but it would have been awesome. Cross state rivalry with the younger team leading the regular season series 1-0....that would have drawn attention...and who knows, we may actually have a fun team to watch this yr.

Oh well I would rather be somewhere else on Thanksgiving...

Plus there are 3 games on Thanksgiving....

Ditto. I'm making the trip, there's no way I'd like to spend Thanksgiving weekend up in Dallas. I'm sure hotel rooms would be booked up as well.

but you guys and girls missed the thursday night game on thanksgiving denver at kc!!!!!!!!! not a bad finish.. and the monday night opener has two games min at wash followed by oakland at san diego no hope for us yet but the comish said the late year games on nfl network would be the ones that the network had backed off of early in the yr and now had playoff implications

The best way to get some national coverage, of course, is to win. I think that the team will make enough strides and be explosive enough offensively to start getting some national TV appearances in '07. It'll probably take a while to make Turkey Day. I'm not sure an all-Texas matchup would be what Fox would want, but it'd be pretty sweet.

Well I don't blame em. As a matter of fact I don't really want the Texans to be in the Thanksgiving games, I'd rather have them on a Monday Night Football game, what seems more interesting.

Besides most of the country doesn't even know that the Texans exist yet. I read a forum from a guy in LA which was commenting over the rumor about LA getting 2 NFL teams by 2008, and he said give one of them to Houston saying that "we need one", well one guy from Austin replied to him and said "They already have one it's called the Texans". It'll take awhile before we get in the big picture.
