Seahawks sign Burleson to an offer sheet

Seattle signed him to an offer sheet and Minnesota has 7 days to match or they get a 3rd round pick in return. The details of the offer have not been released yet.

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Seattle Seahawks have signed restricted free agent WR Nate Burleson (Vikngs) to an offer sheet. The Minnesota Vikings have seven days to match the offer. If they do not, the Vikings would receive Seattle's third-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.
 
ESPN is reporting its a 7 year offer. and i also heard its a #1 receiver type money. probably a "pay-back" for the hutchinson deal.

he can't sign more than one offer sheet. its like signing 2 contracts. its pretty much over for now. the reason why we stopped going after Burleson is because we had an idea that seattle was gonna throw a bunch of money at him.

More noteworthy are Seattle's tongue-in-cheek 'poison pills' in the deal that guarantees the entire contract if Burleson plays a certain numer of games in the state of Minnesota or exceeds the highest paid running back on the team. Those provisions are a loud attempt by Seattle to close significant loopholes in the 'transition' tag designation that Minnesota took advantage of with Hutchinson's contract. Among all that confusion is the likelihood that Minnesota won't keep Burleson. They only offered him the 'low tender' as a restricted free agent. If it's true then I agree. I heard it's all just for show though, and he probably won't see some of that money.
 
that is way to much money to give to him. even if it isn't guaranteed, he just doesn't have the skills or ability to be a good number 1 option.

It's true. And with the posion pill, the clause states that if he plays 5 games this year in the state of Minnesota, all of the money becomes guaranteed if Minnesota were to match.
 
Sorry, Burleson isn't worth this contract; he probably won't get all the money due. So what if Seahawks put a poison pill clause; at least the Vikes get a 3rd round as compensation for Burleson, unlike HUtchinson.
 
I've heard that this is a 4 year, $14 million deal with ridiculous salaries in years 5-7 that he will never see.

Yeah, that's a contract young players should get. Potential doesn't always pan out.
