Flanagan signed

big homey

Waterboy
I just saw it on the NFL Network crawler. I can't find any online reports, however. They said it was something like a 3 year, $9 million deal.

EDIT: From kffl.com

Maybe this will squash some of these crazy threads we've had around here. Yes we did get one new linemen.

Fantastic!! Now, if we can sign Neal...that will make for a very good FA season...........Probably means Wade is gone after June 1.

Wow, you mean the front office has been after free agent linemen?

Anyways, great news. Maybe they can pick up another and find a quality OT or OG prospect at #33.

So I'm assuming our O-Line as of today is...
LT-Pitts
LG-McKinney
C-Flanagan
RG-Wiegert
RT-Wade

I'm also thinking Wade gets cut, but we'll see.

All I can say is WOW.

We are actually starting to act like a franchise that is really focused on turning things around quickly.

Great Job guys, keep it going in a good direction!!!!!!!!!!!! :ok:

Yeah, with us. Given our track record, you almost just have to question his judgement.

Sarcasm aside... I am excited and think that CC and company did a great job in getting an impact player to help... our blindside protection is much better now.

Thank you god. I had no idea we were even that in depth talking with a free agent OL. This is great news. Now we have a center who can really hold up. One more OL man and I will feel our Line has been greatly improved!

Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but he canceled his visit to Houston because he reached an agreement with the Patriots. However this is still a good season.

Now, if we could add someone like Cowart and ressurect the Burelson deal....

Is that excitment im feeling? Boy, we sure do forget easily....

Mike Flanagan - Green Bay Packers Website
At A Glance
  • Had season-ending surgery Oct. 7, 2004, to alleviate recurring knee tendinitis after the level of pain became unmanageable for him. Though the decision to undergo surgery limited him to three regular-season games a year ago, it also likely prevented him from suffering a more serious, career-threatening injury down the line
  • Overcoming the long shadow of injury early in his professional career, had built a games-played streak of 82 (87 counting playoffs) prior to having his 2004 season cut short by knee tendinitis issue
  • During the 2001-03 seasons when he was an every-game starter, Green Bay allowed an NFL-low 68 sacks. Culminated that successful three-year stretch by making his first Pro Bowl following the ’03 campaign – the first Packers center to be named to the all-star squad since 1996
  • Had current Packers head coach Mike Sherman as his offensive line coach for one season (1994) at UCLA
  • Married the former Jen Gray this past offseason (May 21, 2005)
  • An avid reader, he especially enjoys spy and historical novels

Obviously we got a good pickup since he enjoys spy novels.

Aww man our line looks way more solid now. I think this takes alot of pressure off from having to draft a lineman and having to play him. I could see us drafting a lineman now and letting him develop. I am also glad by this signing because it gives Hodgdon a chance to develop as well.

There should be a couple of decent lineman prospects at #33. Of course, there are plenty of quality prospects at other positions.

This signing provides less of a reason to think about trading the #1 and more of a reason to take Bush.

Let's add Eric Winston at LT and move Pitts to RT.......That will be sweet!!!!

When people kept crying, whining, and acting like they were going to jump off a bridge, I kept telling them hold on FA is a long process and the only thing you do by being active early on is overpaying for avg. talent-see Titans.

Now we have a real Center, a real TE, a solid DE that should help in the running game, and added depth to our recieving core with a young prospect.

and we still have the draft to make further improvements to this Oline and this team :yahoo:

#1,#33, #66, and #67- we are going to get some players

Slow, but steady and patient is the way to go

I'm really getting excited about next year. :redtowel:

this is a very good sign for us...not only does it give us a ligit center but it gives hodgdon someone to learn from for a couple of years and then to replace without a problem...now only if we can get eric winston at 33rd we'll have our line set

and to add to that he is also the guy that called all the asignments on "Shermans" line and knows what Sherman wants.

His mere presence and knowledge is going to help this line tremendously

Its another Coach/Player connection

The following from the Packer website:

1996 Green Bay Packers 0 0
1997 Green Bay Packers 0 0
1998 Green Bay Packers 2 0
1999 Green Bay Packers 15 0
2000 Green Bay Packers 16 2
2001 Green Bay Packers 16 16
2002 Green Bay Packers 16 13
2003 Green Bay Packers 16 16
2004 Green Bay Packers 3 3
2005 Green Bay Packers 14 14
TOTAL 98 64

This guy missed a helluva lot of games early in his career. Maybe hope for Joppru after all?

Now, what are some of the predictions for next season's line? I see 3 differant possibilities.

1. Draft Eric Winston-Pitts, McKinney, Flannegan, Weigert, Winston

2. Draft Davin Joseph- Pitts, McKinney, Flannegan, Joseph, Weigert/Wade

3. Draft Abdul Hodge/ other non-Olineman- Pitts McKinney, Flannegan, Weigert, Wade.

The biggest question mark in this equation is Wade, as long as everyone else is healthy...right now the only thing keeping him in the lineup is his paycheck...

Since it it looks like he only started 2 of his first 33 games, it wouldn't surprise me if he missed all those games because he was a practice squad or bench guy until he finally got his chance.

This is a GREAT singing! I am so happy this guy is going to help us ALOT! I bet David Carr is sitting at home thanking god for this. As for the 33rd pick I think Winston if he's there we should take him or tradeup and get Marcus Mcneil or that USC Tackle. This is a HELL of a signing and its look good for Houston:yahoo: !

Dagummit! Pats have been pretty passive this offseason.

Heard Texans gave Cowart a contract offer....he's still shopping.

 only Texan fans can get this excited about signing a Offensive Lineman
He is rated in the 90's in Madden. Of course the worst o-line ever is improved, therefore, the team is improved. Ergo, many draft trolls will leave(the guys that post only disses and praises for Reggie or Vince).

I can tell you no man is happier than David Carr today.

Eric Winston would be an awesome fit and should be there around that time. I knew if we got Flanigan huge improvement. THE GENERAL HAS ARRIVED!!!

It is the direction of the center that orchestrates the blocking assignments and possible blitz's so now with him at the wheel, CARR will be more comfortable (should be) and will get some protection.

I AM EXCITED!!!
