Ladies and gentlemen, we have running backs

Our running game looked great, actually. Nothing the Miller-Blue tandem ever did looked half as good as Duke-Hyde. It reminded me of the good times when we had Arian Foster lighting it up. I thought Hyde had the best vision of the two against the Saints, but then again, they’re both different backs with different skill sets. Both Duke and Hyde balled out! Let’s hope they keep trending up!

Duke looked really good. I can't expect Hyde to last considering his track record but we'll see.

The RBs did look good, much better to my eyes than I've been used to from this team. I'm gonna wait and see what happens with the Jaggies before I get my hopes up. And even at that, against the Jags, I expect them to run a lot anyway. If we're still marveling at them after the Chargers game I'll be convinced.

Both backs looked very good.. I was most impressed with Hyde, given that this is his like 4th team in 2 yrs, but he ran like his old 49'ers self.

I'm no expert on OL run-blocking so I'm curious to hear if the guys up front showed improvement..
I also have to think that the presence of WFV and Stills had to help ease up the defense

Add it all together and looks like we have a competent run game now.. can only think it gets better since half of the pieces weren't even on the team 2 wks ago

The OL was excellent at run blocking.

Tweet from @riversmccown: Every Week 1 carry for rushing DVOA leader Carlos Hyde.

-- Kelemete gets some good seals in.
-- Hyde gets through some tight creases.
-- I am not allowed to talk about what happened on the third run without being called a hater by every 10-follower account in Houston. https://t.co/3qsmTh5jDB

We got two guys looking for homes. Hyde on a one year deal right, at what point do you start thinking extension
With an RB I wouldn't till mid season, not only make sure he stays as productive once teams get a feel for how Texans are using him but also for injury sake.

IMO, you nailed the majic word of why the running game looked good. Having the vision to see where the hole is developing is key to any running game.

I agree and I get that it was preseason but I thought Buddy Howell got upfield in a hurry also. Seemed like before he was touched he was always eight yards down range.
Can't wait to see Howell behind our #1's.
I thought he looked good in the preseason.
I think if he sees the field in a RB capacity he is gonna try to light it up.

I don’t know. None of the bench warmers really stood out to me. Howell, Crocket, or Jones.
Higdon was in that group as well.
From what I saw, Howell was easily the best - which is why he is still on this team. Not forgetting with his ST value.

Backs ran with intent. Even when no holes present. Surprised me. Hope they get more creative getting Duke in space and let Hyde handle the inside stuff. Pleased with the play so far but it’s a long season.
I really liked the way Hyde pressed the line then bounced it outside at the last minute

Seems like the type that just needs a chance. He has great size. Seemed to be a straight ahead runner. Lack of vision?

Howell is a solid player. He was stuck behind Devin Singletary in college then signed with Dolphins who were deep at RB. They tried to get him to practice squad but Texans nabbed him.

I don’t think he’ll get an opportunity to be a starter unless he gets “lucky” with backs ahead of him getting injured and he gets a chance to shine. But he can definitely carve out a long career as a “suped up” Alfred Blue.

One particular play where Hyde ran into the back of the OL because there was just nothing there, and instead of the 2 yard loss we've been accustomed to the last few years, he turned it into about a 5 yard gain.

Very impressed with the run game at this point.

Carlos Hyde has been the most surprising player I think thus far this season. I know it's early, but everything I had read after the Texans acquired him was that people thought he was done and had nothing left in the tank. Good for him to see his career kind of rejuvenated early in the season.

Still weirded out that Carlos Hyde was our best offense player yesterday.
Weirded out? How so? The only ones that were so vocal about him being done and criticizing the signing are the ones who probably never even saw the guy play before. He has been the best back out of the group, and it ain’t even close. Not saying Hyde is better than Duke, I just think O’Brien doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. He’s trying to utilize Duke just like he did Miller (which Hyde is best at due to his good vision), instead of using him where his ability most shines.

I dunno Hyde being on his fourth team in a calendar year sounds closer to done than a guy I want to be counting on to do the heavy lifting ...btw, Texans have a legit starting dual-threat QB, a Wr tracking towards the HOF, 3 top-end speed WRs, and high volume pass-catching RB...and the 29-year-old (see this Friday) tossed around, never had a 1,000 yards dude is clearly the best player on offense...maybe weirded out is wrong...effing PO'ed might be better

Especially when they managed 13 points against a defense missing two of their best defenders
