Colvin has been released

It seems like every thread evolves into the same thread centered on O'Brien hate and how this team sucks. I get tired of re-discussing the same thing over and over and over. It's like Ground Hog's Day. There is very little meaningful discussion anymore about the team or the players, and when it does occur it is soon downed out by O'Brien hate. I get that you hate O'Brien, I can understand why you don't like him, and respect your right to have an opinion. I am just tired of hearing it for the millionth time and would like to talk about other issues that concern this team.

Exactly, every single thread devolves into this as if people think if they tie every bad or good thing to Bill O'Brien it will determine if Cal keeps or fires him. Like I said this has become as bad as political forums and I stay out of political forums for that very reason. Frankly its got to the point that if you just switch a few words around and don't mention names you wouldn't know if people are talking about BoB or Trump.

That's what gets to me... it's the same old regurgitated crap EVERY DAMN THREAD

Not surprised people will start to leave when it looks like it's gonna be another mediocre year with terrible OL play

Team has jack **** to do with it. People aren't leaving the Texans they are tired of Texans talk because this is the most negative fan base I have ever seen of any sport. You can blame that on Bill O'Brien if you want but other teams have bad HC and bad front offices and they don't put down their team in every post. Hell the Miami, Washington and Detroit fans are more hopeful about their teams than we are.

I have never understood this logic train. You disagree with someone and you can’t agree to disagree? Or just move on, or ignore that person? Instead you want to throw up your hands in defeat and move on to a group of people who agree with you? Whatever.

Its not about disagreeing any more. People can disagree and still find common ground but this has become the hill that people have chosen to die on. BoB will be fired some day, that's a given, Bum Phillips said it best "There's two kinds of coaches, them that's fired and them that's gonna be fired." Even BB was fired but when BoB is fired do I expect people to come here and talk about who our new HC is or will be, no. I expect many to come here and start crowing about it, throwing insults at those they see as OB nuthuggers and basically acting like asses as though anything the Texans do actually matters in our day to day lives.

Lol, I've had several disagreements over the years with several long time posters of this MB...Texecutioner, DB, Steelb, 76T..Rey/xtruroyalty, I-cak just to name a few. Its the numbskull takes, ridiculous level of agenda driving coupled with the uptick in dumbassery & decrease in any semblance of rational thought that's gone off the far end. A quality poster in CNND being run off by a ******* troll is a prime example of this. You who have been here since 2006 should know very well how the quality of posting has gone down since then.

Sad part to me is how this reflects poorly on Brian Gaine because Colvin was one of his big early signings. Then I reflect on those who supplied him scouting data and recommended Aaron Colvin and that would be Rob Kisiel, who had Casserly connections early on as Texans set-up franchise. Might be the nicest man in the world and pillar in his community but Cal needs to drill down further to Gaine better results. No Scout in their right mind could project and offer a contract to a guy who lacks athletic ability and speed to play in the slot. He is also undersized and injury prone, well we all know that now but how you can't evaluate talent any better than that, means your in the wrong business. The clusterfk of moves and talent evaluations is simply astounding to say the least. The guy they picked up, Phillip Gaines is much bigger but lacks speed and would be liability in slot or even press, only a zone corner and aren't we all sick of zone coverage and soft cushions? Can't we focus on pure press corners, which Bouye was, I'm absolutely mystified and feel this whole scouting department needs to be gutted.

I’m not excited by the Gaines signing but to say he lacks speed isn’t right. He ran a 4.38 at the combine. Now, if you said he lacks talent I’d have no issue or rebuttal

In no way am I apologizing for the signing of Colvin. I had questions about Colvin regarding his zero career INTs. They were dismissed by the bulk of the forum, which was pretty happy with the signing.

But, I'm pretty sure Colvin had other offers besides the Texans. He was the starting nickel CB for Jacksonville, who were cap strapped. Had Colvin been cheaper, they probably would have kept him. The real issue is they gave Colvin starting CB $$$ and thought he could play outside. Then, they found out he couldn't play anywhere in RAC's scheme. The scouts, coaches, and GM should have known this. They missed and not for the first time. Likely, not the last. Like the draft, free agency is not foolproof. My biggest complaint would be, why didn't they cut bait sooner?

I was happy with the Colvin signing, and may have been one of the posters that tried to rationalize his low interception numbers. My apologies, Sir.

Geologists do not make great NFL scouts.

You are so right about us being negative. I am guilty. We need to be more positive about this team. Especially with a franchise QB like Watson.

OBrien controls just about every aspect of the organization and runs almost every aspect (badly imo).

It's hard not to talk about him. It's become a national story and goes viral when he does something crazy.

I mean the only reason we have this thread is because he cut colvin in a rage.

You're just like the energizer bunny

I'm kind of getting to the same point. There's no logic or reason to any of it any more. This has become a political debate except about football instead of politics. Both sides just trying to hammer their point home with no regard for anything even close to truth and declaring anything that doesn't agree with them as fake. When the Saints fans thought more highly of the Texans than the Texans fans it was really telling to me.

But do you have anything new to say about him, or just repeat or rephrase what you've said a hundred times before?

Maverick is not one of the die-hard OB haters that ruins every thread

We are talking about new things such as using two timeouts at the same time, giving a mediocre center top 5 pay and cutting the main slot corner with no backup plan

Yet it all comes back to your hate of OB. Why not talk about the defense covering for a TD when only a FG was needed or Watt not putting up any numbers for the first time ever or if our line just needs time together or are they still bad.

Here’s a novel idea you might also try positive things like the fact that Watson is scary good, our WRs making plays where they had no business making them, the fact we finally seem to have RBs that do more than just take a roster spot, actually going for it on 4th and inches instead of settling for a FG or hell the fact that we pushed a SB favorite to the very limit and made them win it on a 58 yard FG in their house under the bright lights.

I actually have said several of those things but no one responds

Tweet from @PatDStat: OB declines to talk about who will be the nickel. Adds that Lonnie Johnson has a chance to be in there more with a good week of practice. #Texans

If I were coaching I wouldn’t want to give the opposing team any information either. Let them figure it out in game day.

Kalil took away snaps from better players. It should have been Tytus and Rod taking the snaps there and getting valuable experience.

He was an absolute waste. He set $2.5m on fire (it adds up) on a guy everyone knew was completely washed
Water over the damn that cannot be reclaimed.
My question is what next?
J.J. needs help. Since we wheelin' n dealin' now days, who should "they" target to beef up the pass rush?
serious question.

Do we KNOW this is a Cal cut and not an OB cut?

It's all speculation. I have been trying to figure out the power structure on Kirby for years, mainly based off of interviews of Bob, Cal, GMs, and HCs (and other coaches like Wade).

All I know is this team has a board room mentality, one that was installed by Bob McNair when he founded the franchise. It was what he was comfortable with given his business background.

I'm not convinced that Cal is pulling any strings in football operations, much less making individual player evaluations.

I'd like to think it was a RAC cut.

Yep. I think it was a coaching staff decision with Cal's blessing.

I'd like to know why they kept him on the roster so long, but those are questions that we should never expect to be answered.

Our secondary is going to lose some games this year. . .again.

Echo on a message board?

Who'd a thunk it?

No one good is available. Will have to wait for draft and free agency.

Does Connor Barwin do it for you? Slim pickings otherwise. These pesky edge guys are pretty dang hard to find too go figure.

I doubt he’s just going to can everyone in one day. Devlin’s day is coming. Believe that! I just hope O’Brien goes with him for keeping him here as long as he did while developing ZERO players! Cal is not Bob! He’s proving to be a no nonsense type of owner! Loving it!
Why are you ascribing these moves to Cal? For all we know, he's just sitting in a chair, eating a candy bar, and just nodding in agreement with OB. This looks like OB scapegoating the **** out of Brian Gaine by getting rid of every Gaine signing for any transgression, big or small.

Seemed to work out well for Howie Roseman, shipped virtually every Chip Kelly signing, shortly there after won the Super Bowl. :trophy:

And it still continues, just brought back DeSean Jackson, who Gaine never bothered to bring in after Fuller went down last season.

Even with the 'Phins tanking?
Surely there's someone on somebody's practice squad we can poach
Surely "they" had someone in mind when they let Clowney go

Hard to argue with cutting Colvin after his performance in New Orleans and basically costing us the game so good riddance. Don't know much about Gaines but how much worse could he be.

If Cal had a real GM and O’Brian couldn’t deal w/Clowney should have offered him to a team with a starting press corner he liked. That would have been a fair trade. Then Colvin could have been included to ice the deal.

I hear you, but your actions tell an entirely different story. If those people were to come back & crow, it will bother you. It will bother you something awful, as if it matters in your day to day.

I know this because you act as if you have to respond to every negative O'Brien/Texans post.

People are going to be people. Try not to let it bother you. Don't respond. Find someone, some post worth your time.

I can see where you get that but it’s less to do with it bothering me and more to do with having so much down time at work and so little to fill it. This site is one of the few not blocked so no it won’t bother me, I just respond because on most days it’s fun to argue with people on here. Last month or so it has become less so.

We should trade gipson with a 3rd & 4th pick for Trent. Our defense will get weaker maybe, but our offense will be unstoppable.

Lol, one knows how to conduct himself publicly. I will give OB that.

Nonetheless they both talk down upon us.

I mean I have no idea how hard it is to win in this league but I know a prevent defense prevents me from winning lol.

Nope

Colvin was cut because he sucked last yr.

He sucked 1st game this yr and poof, he's gone.

You dont like accountability?
