Moulds granted trade permission, will cost $7.1 million

I don't want a guy who is going to complain when he isn't getting the ball like he did this year.

He will get the ball because everytime they DBL AJ...which they will he gets it..or JP...I think he would be a good addition...What kinda of cap hit would 7.1 mill be exactly?

A big one but the upside to that is Moulds would consider coming to a team that appears to have a steady direction, He wants a QB that he can have chemistry with because they have had a revolving door in Buffalo.
It would literally be impossible to double one of our receivers with that tandem on the field.

What would we have to trade to compensate Buffalo? His salary would be 7 mil but we dont have anything we can give them in return. If they didnt have McGahee Id offer them DD, and Wade.

He's a nice talent, but probably too rich for the Texan's to take. He would be a good #2 with AJ, though. :hmmm:

A 5th Rd Pick...and Armstrong!

I wish it'd be that cheap.

Personally, I like Armstrong's reliable hands and his CFL numbers. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to translate well enough with Capers and company to get more playing time. We shall see if GK can change all that.

But yeah...AJ on the left, JP at TE, Bush in the right slot and Mould on the far right.

Haha...I can see the DB's shaking already. hahha (dare to dream, I suppose).

Wait...that's right. Carr needs more than 1 1/2 steps to get the ball out.

:brickwall

O-Line should be better. Right?!:redtowel:

With that tandem I dont think there would be a No 1 or 2 it would just be whoever was open got the ball. of course they need to get open in a hurry if our protection still doesnt improve.

Moulds right now on the Billls is a $10million cap hit. If he's traded, about 3 million of that is bonuses, so his base salary of $7 would be paid by us. In that case, all $7 would be against the cap. He might consider restructuring, but who knows. I don't think anyone will pay him $7, but $5 would be a number I'd be willing to work with.

Givens wanted a 5 year, $25 million deal if I'm not mistaken. About 6-8 of that would have been bonus, therefore his cap hit would have been somewhere between $3 and $4 million

If the Texans did take him, I believe he would restructure. How old is Moulds?

What about Javon Walker? He's in the same situation as Moulds except he's younger and has a smaller contract. And has better numbers than Burleson. But he is looking to get paid not to mention what the Packers are looking for in compensation. He insists that he will not play for them in 2006.

No point in trading for Moulds and absorbing any cap hit. The guy will get cut soon. They asked to to restructure, he said no. He asked for a trade, they said go find one. He'll be cut soon enough and could be signed for a reasonable rate. Not worth $7.1M, he is not that player anymore.

Yeah, this is Jamie Sharper all over again. He wanted more than we would give him, we tried to shop him, no takers, so June 1st=cut. I'm guessing it will be the same with Moulds

Too expensive, too old, and over rated, let him go to Big D and team up with TO and Bledsoe, they deserve him.

if we have to trade to get him here's what i would do...get them to restructure his deal to be cap friendly this year as we do the same for todd wade then trade wade to buffulo along with our 5th round pick for moulds

He is the only WR avaliable that can immediately stop AJ from getting double and triple teamed. I say make the trade in a heartbeat. Burleson would be the only other option, but he wouldnt have the impact that moulds would.

Im not big on using the draft to find our #2 WR. Drafting WRs is such a crapshoot, as it usually takes them a few years to develop.

They'll have AJ, Walter, Putzier and the ability to line up Bush in the slot. That's 4 receivers going downfield. Davis in the backfield would help to keep the D honest.

Who is to say we dont already have a number 2 WR on the team? We have yet to see the talent pool at the WR corps because of Capers. We may just have a stud that no one has seen yet.

Maybe Walter can become that #2. You have Mathis in the receiving corps who can help to really stretch a secondary in certain spots. Putzier and Walter give you guys who can run routes and draw attention away from AJ. Bush will always be a threat to line up in the slot, go out into the flat or carry the rock.

no way in hell do we need Eric Moulds. go with AJ, Walter, and then our cheap youth at WR. it doesnt matter who is WR anyway because as long as David is behind center the WR wont be looked at unless he is the first option.

when will the Carr backers finally give up and admit that Carr sucks? That day is coming and the faster the homer Carr fans realize it the faster a real revolution can happen on this team.

After next year when Carr is proven to be the joke that he is, we will be able to fire Casserley and dump Carr. Once that is done, we can finally get around to playing some real football in this town. Until that is done, the Texans will continue to be an embarassment to our city and the laughingstock of the NFL. Obviously Offensive Line wasnt the problem because Casserley hasnt done squat about it. Maybe he just has a big mancrush on Carr.

Kubiak was down with keeping Carr. That tidbit seems to have been overlooked.

keeping carr had already been decided. they were looking for a coach who was willing to work with Carr as QB. Kubiak was. Al Saunders was not as enthusiastic and thus not given the job. Al Saunders was FAR AND AWAY the best head coaching candidate this past offseason, and he took an assistant head coaching job with Washington for MORE money than Kubiak is getting as Head Coach. Al Saunders did interview for the Texans job but was not sold on Carr as a starting Quarterback and was gonna cost a bunch of cash. They decided to take the easy way out and keep Carr and choose the local guy Kubes who was willing to give Carr a shot. Make no bones about it, if Carr plays like he has the first 4 years of his career, he will not be our starting QB in 2007.

I dont have a problem with Kubiak but Al Saunders was the right hire especially with Bush looking like he would be added to the team. Saunders ran the Rams greatest show on turf and then the Kansas City offensive juggernaut of the last few years. Kubiak was probably the 2nd best choice and the local ties I think may lead him to really work hard righting this ship. He is putting in the hours and the effort it is gonna take. It is just a shame that he doesnt have a legit NFL QB on his roster.

Just wait for the 2-14 season next year and a lot of you Carr supporters are going to be eating a lot of crow....Buffet Style

I'd take Moulds in a heartbeat. Physical receiver. However he's looking for a payday and I wouldn't throw made jack at him since he's what 9 years into the league.

I guess we forgot that Doug was in the room during the Saunders interview. How could we overlook that? Doh! :homer:

You have asserted this several times. Do you have a source you can share?

Here is one which agrees Saunders would have been the best choice--funny they come to that conclusion by saying this:

The Houston Texans have an offense capable of being one of the most explosive in the league. They already feature a central core with quarterback David Carr, running back Domanick Davis, and receiver Andre Johnson. But though they feature a potentially offensive lethal force, they lack fundamentals - most notably, offensive blocking.

One of the prime reasons is that Carr had very little time to read and react to defensive schemes - not because of being a poor quarterback; rather, his blocking never held up. The Texans gave up a league-high 68 sacks, and the number of times that he was pressured out of the pocket ranks in the hundreds. The dearth of blocking negated anything that Carr or Davis could accomplish - neutralizing their one receiving playmaker, Johnson.

No it wasn't. A decision on Carr was made after they landed Kubiak. If Kubiak didn't want him, Carr would be on his way out.

I guess the team should've brought in another QB to spend a season eating turf in order for the virtual GMs to understand why Carr has been limited during his tenure in Houston. I guess if it was Young he could spend the season in shotgun formation and running away from DEs and DTs every freaking play.

Mathis - great speed and upside, imo still need to learn how to consistently run NFL routes.

Walter - Maybe he can be our McCaffery, but he is to unproven to count on him to take pressure away from AJ.

Armstrong - good posession receiver, but is probably not good enough to take pressure away from AJ.

Jeb Putzier - Excellent signing, but not a game changing TE.

My biggest concern with standing pat is that the most potent weapon we have will again be taken out of the equation. If AJ has a good season, Carr will probably have a good season, which can go a long way to rebuilding his confidence.

My concern is I do not see anything that will allow us to go deep unless Mathis explodes out of the gate. Bush, DD, Walter, Armstrong, Putzier and most likely the #2 options we keep seeing offer 8-15 yds MAYBE. None of this takes pressure off AJ. I wish for a "he may go all the way.." guy. Bush may be that guy, but...

Do you think a guy that runs a 4.4 can get down the field and go all the way? How fast do you have to be to do that.

That 1 or 2 shots in a game with the bomb is great, but you know what is more threatning to a defense is the YAC (yards after catch) because that is where AJ can get physical and Walter can get physical, and Putzier... do you want to go head on with him if you are a CB at 180-190lbs... NOT ME!!!

If you can have the superstar AJ and some other good to very good options, defenses have to gameplan for more than one person/scheme/offensive set instead of last year when you put three guys on AJ and blitz Carr because the other WR were not a threat if they happened to catch the ball...

As for Walter, you are right you have not seen enough of him to make a decision ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. Coaches, scouts, are professionals and they must see something special in Walter or they would not have jumped all over him and paid him what they did.

We have a solid WR corp including the TE. Unify the O-line or it will not matter if Carr is back there or Young is back there. Not to mention if Young got hit that many times you think he is not going to be pointing fingers at his O-Line placing the blame on them.

O-LINE!!! Let's DO IT!!!

Well, Al Saunders also interviewed for other teams also. If he was the best available candidate, you would think more than one team would have seen it don't you? Go figure.

To the guy saying Saunders was the best candidate blah blah. He wasn't going to be our head coach because the owner and staff didn't think he was they right guy. However, they DID plan to offer him the OC spot if you recall. Everything that was published said he was in line to be Kube's offensive coordinator until Washington gave him their offer.

I think somebody is bound to try and make a deal for him. The Texans seemed like they didn't want to pay a lot for Givens, so I doubt they would want to pay even more for a guy who's much older and not much better at this point, despite getting rid of an amount the guy who would be traded now earns.

Guys, we already have Ashley Lelie (his name is Mathiss) and if all else fails we can always have our WR Coach suit up (Shanahan JR.). I don't think WR is a Pressing need. If we Draft one I like Jason Avant in the 3rd.

The established rumor around here is that Mathis has bad hands and needs a lot of work. I think he'll improve and be great some day, but that remains to be seen. He's certainly got the speed and the moves.

Seems like AJ had that problem too. :)
