Just was thinking of what we have done in FA up to this point,and thinking of our needs and players suitable to our new systems.I came up with 2 scenarios,what is y'alls opinion:
Version 1

Weaknesses:
Will play too upright at times due to his height...Has some medical issues with his back and neck that will have to be cleared...Will get caught leaning...May lack a nasty demeanor and that killer instinct...Will get lazy and lose concentration at times...Needs to refine and become more consistent with his technique...Is not as explosive as you would expect a guy with his mass and dimensions to be.

Notes:
From a measurables standpoint this guy is off the charts and exactly what you look for in a stud tackle...Could project to either the left or right side as a pro...Experienced and has led the way for some great rushing attacks...You simply can't teach the type of size and athleticism that this guy brings to the table.
 
I thought about that, the only reason i didn't put him in was based that it looks as if we have our tackles set and are in need of an OG.
 
A guard with a good tackle and solid Center and learn on the fly so what about a guy like this with the 3rd round pick. I think he should be there...

Needs to keep his weight in check and stay in proper physical condition so he doesn't wear down...Disappears at times needs to show more consistency...Has below average speed...May lack a nasty demeanor and killer instinct...Does not get to the second level of defenders...Has trouble handling speed rushers.

Notes:
Could potentially see some time at right offensive tackle but looks much better inside at guard...Has the ability to be a dominant blocker at the pro level, especially if the team who brings him in can maximize his effort on every play.

Height: 6-0 3/8 | Weight: 236 | 40-Time: 4.76

Strengths:
Very quick and athletic...Hits like a ton of bricks...Sure tackler...Has been very productive throughout his career...Has great instincts...Very strong...Hard worker with top intangibles...Gravitates toward the action and seems to always be in the mix...Displays solid technique...Thumper in the middle...Smart and a team leader.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the type of size in terms of height that you would prefer, but has a solid build...Can do a better job in coverage...Does not look real fluid when dropping back on pass plays...May run into more resistance when it comes to taking on blocks at the pro level than he did in college...Needs the right scheme.

Notes:
Has a young daughter...Brother is a freshman LB at Wisconsin...Other than lack of size it is not easy to pinpoint many glaring weaknesses with this guy...Excellent prospect with just the right blend of physical tools and collegiate production.

STUD!!!
 
Reggie McNeal might be worth a look at #66 or #97. With his speed and arm he could be one of those athletic QB types converted into a receiver.
 
If they are all available here is what I would do unless of course some can't miss slips to Houston in one of these spots
1. Reggie Bush, RB
2. Thomas Howard, OLB,
3. Michael Robinson, WR
3. Jeremy Trueblood, OT
4. Kai Parham, MLB
I would be tempted to go for McNeill of Auburn or Winston of Miami at OT in second round too instead of Howard
 
Winston Justice wont be available in round 2, and Abdul Hodge shouldnt be available in round 3, but if either of them are..They are steals

Plenty of speed, strong arm, and used to running the rock. Maybe convert to be 4th or 5th WR. Good guy to use on gadget plays. Perhaps the 3rd is too early for him, but he has very intriguing physical tools.
 
Reggie would be a nice second day pick, but definately would not use a 1st day pick on him seeing that he really wants to play QB. He is a WR, maybe he can play QB, but he is really a Vick clone. At WR he could be better than Randle El. He is definately faster, and probably just as good an athlete.

That's the idea. I've seen him all over the board in various mocks. Could allow the team to carry two "true" QBs with McNeal as the emergency 3rd.

As for second round, we need an offensive tackle. I was going to say a TE but we picked up putz, so we take the best available tackle.

3rd round(two picks)
Best available linebacker. We don't need a corner, we have a decent one already in buchanan who is extremely cheap.
Then with our second 3rd rounder, if Reggie is available take him, there are quite a bit very successful receivers who played qb in college (one just won the superbowl mvp). I have watched Reggie play live in quite a bit of games, he had a crappy team around him, but he is a tremendous athlete, i would put his speed and quickness above vince youngs. Vince Young is however a better quarterback.

4th round
A safety, we already have a young good safety in glenn earl (who still has some upside, at notre dame he was great)
I would really like taking a risk for the SS out of Texas Tech in Dwayne Slay, that dude is a badass. He comes up and kills people. In the Texas game I was watching him lay out people left and right, he also made some big plays. His workout numbers might not be impressive but on the field he is just a guy if i was a player I would love to have out on the field with me.

5th round
Offensive linemen, add some depth.

6th round
CB or another linemen
 
Unless he sees his options at playing QB evaporate. He seems bent on playing Q. Maybe a late second day pick but ....i really don't think at this point in our organization to take that sort of a project player unless he is willing to compromise completely on his behalf.I'm more thinking he'll turn out a al Eric Crouch unless he commits like Randle El. I think if we are to succed this year and down the road this is an important draft. I don't think we can afford any misses this year 1st-4th. :twocents:
 
There really should be some tough choices with that 2nd round pick. If we are going to suck, at least we picked a good year to do it.
 
I have posted my thoughts on this on a couple other threads but I will put them here as well:

1st Round: With this pick we should pick Bush or Mario, I think it would be best to pick Mario, but I believe it will be Bush.

2nd Round: Select the best O-Lineman available. It is very likely that Winston, McNeill, Jean-Gilles, or maybe even Mangold fall to us here. Any of these would be an almost instant upgrade and can not be passed up.

3rd Round: Here we should take the two best players available at any two of these positions: MLB, CB, FS, C (since I believe Mangold will not fall to us). It is very likely that we could get a very good MLB here (Kai Parham could be a good pick up if Hodge and Jackson are already gone) and a top rated FS (Whitner and maybe even Ko Simpson, although he'll probably be gone). Also, Cromartie might fall this far if teams are still worried about his injury, but after his Pro Day I doubt he lasts. Enslinger could also be had here and would be a great value as the second rated C according to most and having played extensively in a zone blocking offense.

4th: Here we should look to DE who should add depth and perhaps challenge the spots of Babin and Peek. I'm thinking Victor Adeyanju from Indiana might be a great selection here.

In the later rounds we add depth and maybe a project player. :twocents:
 
I also don't think there are really any WRs that might be selected in round 3 or lower that could come in and immediately contribute. This is a weak class for WRs after the top three and highly doubt that those we might select would be any better than what we already have or could aquire in FA. Therefore, I don't think a WR should be selected until possibly the 5th.

This draft would be laughed at for at least the next decade or five.

An undersized, project OLB who struggles reading a defense in the second round?

A WR/QB who is likely to go undrafted, and will not see the field at either position until at least his rookie contract is up...and in the third round!?

A MLB who is slower than most of the linemen in the 4th, who is likely to slip to at least the 6th?
 
YTF I am laughing right now. We also got Trueblood when Whitworth or Scott would better fit our system. Trueblood is not good in space and is more of a project. He is a late 3rd rounder maybe even a second day guy.

Ouch!!! out of those 5 players...MAYBE 2 starters...not too great...I like Bush....Howard at OLB isnt a need and probably wouldnt upgrade Greenwood that much...

Robinson didnt run that fast and has never played WR...not a good pick

Trueblood from what I hear is destined to be a RT....not a good pick in the 3rd....and Parham ran around 5.10 in the 40 which is very slow for an MLB....his stock is on the drop

I agree with ALL of this, execpt I think there will be someone we don't expect to drop to # 66. I would also consider trading 65 & 66 to draft A. Hodge
