Texans random thought of the day

Posting this on Ryan Griffin in this section because it reflects him as a Texan.

PFF HOU Texans‏@PFF_Texans 1d1 day ago

Griffin hadn't posted a grade over 60 since his rookie season in 2013 and was the odd man out after the Texans drafted three tight ends in the last two drafts.

He may not be a very good TE,

But I hear he's he!! on windows.

Is there a reason to believe the three top tight ends for 2019 will play any more than the three in 2018 for Houston?

Are you talking in terms of pass routes run? A talent upgrade at OL and TE overall should lend itself to DW4 making use of the TE more as pass catchers in 2019. Though if you are of the belief that Fuller/Coutee will stay healthy all season then yes they will not receive an uptick in targets as a whole (in a good way of course). Only one football and all!

Pretty everything that's happened this off season leads me to believe that.

Same here. I’m really excited with the direction BG is going with this team. I’ve been impressed with his two drafts and I’m really impressed with the sounds out of the locker room. I’m hearing a different level of confidence and it’s great to hear DW’s excitement over all his new targets. Guy is a real leader, always has been and this year I believe he’s going to take it to another level. So let’s hear it from all the negative folks now but I never in my career saw any dull negative minion ever accomplish much.

They got rid of the cork in the bottle, Griffin.

The two Jordan's should be taking big steps going into year 2.

The Texans seem really tickled to have had Warring drop to them.

Between the upgraded (yet to be seen how much) OLine and the new Fullback, the tight ends hopefully won't be needed to stay in and block as often, especially later on in the year as the OLine develops.

My final thought on this: Tim Kelly, the new OC, has two years as Tight Ends coach on his resume'. He will have given a lot of thought to the role tight ends can play.

That will come down to how well Devlin has prepared his OL for the 2019 season. I guess we can only hope he's down his job well enough that the OL can manage their jobs own their own.....thus freeing up the TE's to be part of the attack from a receiving standpoint.

Our TEs got little action last season and nothing's changed other than drafting another one. Overall when used they seemed to add to game. Whether their use was on #4 or Obrien IDK.

Every year we think the TEs will be unleashed.

Every year we see our idea of unleashed & BO'bs idea of unleashed are very, very different.
This is my problem TK. Often there were tight ends in receiving position but did not get targeted. Not sure about coach or Watson calling play. TEs are to be safety valve for QB but he has to use them. Not sure who new targets are mentioned upstream. We only have one and that's Waring who has to get on field.

Need my NFL Network back. Anybody else loose their service with AT&T U-Verse? Right before draft too :polevault:
ATT is trying to get rid of U-Verse (and the high maintenance costs of cable wire service) and turn all their customers to Direct TV..............thus they made little effort to negotiate a decent NFL Network and Red Zone deal with the NFL on the U-Verse side.

Tell me about ! And I liked the NFLNetworks Draft coverage better than anybody else when they had Mayock, but I dunno how good it was during the '19 Draft wthout
Mayock ?

Changing providers Tuesday, gotta have my NFL Network :swatter:
I hear man and I'd probably do the same but don't really have the option as the wife is an AT&T retiree.

Tell her, look honey, no NFL Network no AT&T. Will switch back after one year if they add it back into package

Damn, looks like our 100% football man has gone soft. Career is over for football, happy he has the next phase of his life locked in.

Seriously, he is a great person and I am sure he can figure out how to give his best to all facets of life and happy he found his life partner

Since JJ's wife-to-be is the sister of Brian Cushing's wife, JJ and Brian will be linked through their wives for many years.

Whatever else people sometimes say about Cush, he played football with passion and focus. He'd probably still be playing if it hadn't been for those terrible injuries inflicted by dangerous and never-should-have-happened OL play.

I imagine that Cush's passion for the game will help keep JJ's passion for the game burning maybe a bit longer than it would otherwise.

Let's trade Clowney for a box of day old donuts.

Day old donuts? Are they in the break room?

I understand the hyperbole, TK, but JClowney brings a lot to the Defense. He hasn't met some folk's expectations as a pass rusher and sack master, but he's still a really good, really disruptive player.

If he was on the open market as a free agent, teams would be lining up at his agent's door to try to snag him.

I'd bet the photographer paid him.

Nah, I imagine JJ treated the photographer like a prince. The last thing JJ would want to do in front of his True Love is look cheap and petty. He's bound to realize that those photos in that setting are more about making her feel beautiful and treasured than anything else. He's a smart man.

It's a good thing they kept him, with Elijofor out for the season. Were we really offered a 1-8 for Clowney?

I haven't heard that, but if there was a real offer of 1-8 for JClowney, I think they would have taken it. The new player would stand a good chance of being good for several more seasons than JClowney will be around, plus the new guy would be on a Rookie contract for a long time.

It was more sarcasm aimed at those willing to take next to nothing for Clowney. He may not be all that, but he's one of four players with an 80+ grade on defense.

Understood.

But you still didn't say where to find the day old donuts.

The highest-graded game by a Texan in PFF history? Not Hopkins, Watt or Johnson. It's @vleach44, who posted one of the top three grades ever.
