Wonder who his agent is? Maybe one of those guys who like to stretch things out?

Just did a little reading on Warring. Report said he needed to learn how to block and had too many drops.

What's the fascination? Especially with the TE's already on the roster. Not down on the signing, just wondering out loud.

:coffee:
Rep1 Sports Group (Chase Calahan).............other TEs they have represented are Eric Tomlison and Jesse James. They represent Roethlisberger, Wentz, Beathard, Trubisky, Goff, Bortles and Mariota. They also have represented David Quessenberry.

The only 2019 rnd 1 draftees they represent are..............................Jonah Williams...........and............Andre Dillard. Williams has yet to be signed. Dillard has already been signed.

They should have a positive opinion of the Texans due to the way the team handled Quessenberry.

Someone has to be the last to sign. Probably doesn't mean much.

Roman, the Texans took Kahale Warring out of San Diego State because he was easily the best player available at that spot. "The board spoke to them", as Gaine likes to say, which means Warring was the best player available. Gaine and O'Brien spoke about Warring's blocking skills, which were sometimes overlooked because of his freakish athleticism and impressive measurables.

maybe his agent spoke to him, his worth is second rounder. Showing my age but just hope he's not another Bennie Joppru. Really hate this pick because of risk, read that he even suffered a broken foot 2nd or 3rd year in College. Lets see my board spoke to me too and said there where safer more pressing needs and prospects on the board.

Connor McGovern - Center to compete for starting role
Miles Boykin - WR to bolster depth and offset injuries
Jamel Dean - High measureable CB who compares to former first round selection, picked up in free agency by Texans Bradly Roby to groom under him
Yodny Cajustie - another damn tackle

OR could have traded up and got a starting RB in the 3rd David Montgomery.

So don't pat yourself on the back just yet Texan Organization, you have a ton of improvement and production to prove your right.

Don’t the rookies report today? Has anyone heard if he is in town. Sorry, I don’t live in the Houston area so I can’t hear the radio gossip.

While Gaine was letting the board speak to him, Roseman was speaking to DeCosta.

I dunno, but I think it was O'Brien and not the Board who spoke to BG and reminded him to hold the third round pic for that San Daego State TE when BG was contemplating moving up to outbid Philly for Dillard.

Joppru was a slacker and troublemaker for the most part of his college career. His work ethic in general made him a perfect set up for injuries when he for the first time had to truly push himself to the max in order to try to make it in the NFL.

Life turns around for UM’s Joppru

****************

And as far as his foot injury, I wouldn't be very worried about it. It was a Jones fracture. . He came back in 2017 without further foot problems to date. If the repaired Jones fracture were going to a problem (refracture/non-union common.......~10-20% of cases), it would have reappeared by now.

Water polo is an unbelievably vicious sport.......so much happens under the water that unless you've ever played, you can't imagine...........worse than at the bottom of a NFL pile..............so much so that it has become known as "the blood in the water sport."

Water polo, a rough but increasingly popular sport in Illinois, searches for concussion solutions

.....................James Hicks, director of the University of California at Irvine’s Center for Exercise Medicine and Sports Sciences, has found that just over a third of water polo players say they’ve suffered a concussion during their careers. For goalies, it’s close to half........................

Warring was a goalie. Have not been able to find any documentation that he sustained a concussion.

It's great that Warring is clearly going to be the greatest TE in history, heck, the greatest player in history in any sport ever. I am looking forward to the "10 Best Draft Picks Ever" show in a couple of years "#2 Tom Brady - 6th round, and of course, #1 Kahale Warring - 3rd round!" I am sure the HOF will suspend the 5 year wait for him because waiting would just make them look silly.

What I don't understand is, where was all this enthusiasm before the 86th pick was announced? Did anyone on the planet think he was going before the 7th round? (OK, not counting his mother who projected him in the 6th.) Did any pundits have him as the "best available" at the start of the draft? At least after the 2nd round? By the Texans pick? Anyone?

If he was so good after the 86th pick, why wasn't anyone banging the table for him at pick 55? Or 54? Or 23? Why didn't the Texans package all their draft picks for the next 3 years and Deshaun Watson to move up in the 1st to make sure they got this guy?

Seems like either he is being over-hyped since the pick, or he was the most under the radar guy ever before the pick. I can see that flipping after he wins a third or fourth Super Bowl MVP, but not the instant he gets drafted.

What is the buzz in Houston regarding his contract negotiations and what the hang ups might be? Because he attended the rookie camp I thought he was on the verge of signing?

^ Just read through the posts from Rotoworld. Jeremiah had him as his 67th rated prospect, Zierlein compared him to Todd Heap, and countless others pegged him as a huge upside sleeper prospect for this draft. Take that for what it is.

I know there was a lot of sarcasm in your post, but nowhere I saw while researching this draft class had Warring as low as a 6th or 7th round pick. If I recall correctly, most pegged him as a 3rd-4th round pick.

Gil Brandt had Warring ranked 98th. Teams reach all the time for need and system fit. Both apply to Texans and his selection @ #86th but pretty damn close to fair value according to Brandt.
Other analysts had him higher:

NFL Draft Scout's Rob Rang lists San Diego State TE Kahale Warring as the "diamond in the rough" at the tight end position in the 2019 NFL Draft class.

"One of the reasons why you can expect to hear plenty of other tight ends mentioned by anonymous scouts in the build-up to the 2019 NFL draft is that they may be trying to keep Warring – an ascending prospect who played just one year of high school football - a secret," writes Rang. As he also notes, the production wasn't elite with the Aztecs, but that had more to do with the system they ran than anything against Warring (6'5/252). Don't be surprised if he goes early on Day 3, even in this loaded tight end class.

NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah ranks San Diego State TE Kahale Warring 67th overall.

Warring (6'5/252) is Jeremiah's TE4, but there's a notable drop from T.J. Hockenson, Noah Fant, and Irv Smith. Those top three are the consensus top three, but the fourth tight end is more up for debate. Some might put Texas A&M's Jace Sternberger or Ole Miss' Dawson Knox here, but Warring is also in the mix as a quality athlete with some upside. Warring is new to the sport, so his best football is theoretically ahead of him, but it may be a big jump from San Diego State to the NFL.

The Draft Network's Jon Ledyard believes San Diego State TE Kahale Warring is the "sleeper you need to know" at the tight end position.

Warring (6'5/252) excelled in the athletic testing, posting an 80th percentile SPARQ score. This was good for fourth in this year's athletically-gifted tight end class behind Iowa's T.J. Hockenson (87th percentile), LSU's Foster Moreau (89th percentile), and Iowa's Noah Fant (98th percentile). Ledyard believes Warring shows "shocking polish as a route runner" and "maintains quickness out of his breaks." After his strong performance at the NFL Scouting combine, Warring will likely be selected sometime on Day 3.

Can always find different grades/evaluations, just that Brandt has been doing it longer, better, than anyone which is reason why his should be heavier weighted. Frankly without more tape I wouldn’t take the risk, or grade him at all, your just projecting because of physical attributes with expectations you can coach him up and when has a Texan coaching staff done that? I’m sure there are some examples but odds stacked against it before some nagging injury sets in.

Thats been the big theme from this draft class. Texans have backed their coaching staff to coach these players up, from small school prospects, water polo players through to the 12th man we need to hope against hope that these coaches can step up to the plate becuaee all these players have huge ceilings but are taking a huge step up in class.

Of all the rookies in minicamp, Seth Payne was most excited about who showed him something was Kahale. He said he is a lot more polished on running routes and was a much better run blocker than what he expected.
I'll buy the route running take. Do we really know much about Warring's run blocking after a padless rookie minicamp?

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
I think that Warring will be the starting TE, especially with the release of Griffin.
I think Jordon Thomas will be the starting TE but there will be a lot of 2 TE sets where Warring will be on the field. I'm wondering if they'll have Aikens playing more like an H-Back / WR hybrid next season.

Or 3 TE draft picks plus a FA in 2 years means the handwriting was all over the wall.
Ryan Griffin should have seen it coming and handled it better, that's for sure. I wonder if his actions during the Draft hint at any issues in the Tight End room. If there were, I hope he took those issues with him.

I actually think that after a few years of being #2 to Fiedorowicz (who'd hardly set the world alight himself) Griffen felt entitled to the #1 role and some certainty in that role.

The problem is that whether you blame him or the coaching, he's been mediocre throughout his career.

The Texans are correct to have put so much effort into improving the position, when it was him with CJ ahead of him the product wasnt good enough, they both needed upgrading.

Only problem with that is they knew what Griffin was & by mid season we should have been seeing more & more of the Jordans preparing them for 2019.

Griffen was not a plus player in any of the 16 games he played last season.
