Legitimate #2 Receiver Options Still Available

gtexan02

Working?
Heres how I see it:

Top Options
1. Terrell Owens, released from Philly
2. Keyshawn Johnson, released from Dallas
3. Eric Moulds, asking for release from Buffalo Bills
4. Javon Walker, asking for trade from Greenbay Packers

We can also try and pick up a lesser known and convert him, a la Antonio Chatman or this guy from Cincinatti

And finally, the draft

As I would fear for AJs coverages if we try and convert some other teams #3-5 receiver into a #2, and the draft is incredibly thin at starting potential WRs, I think we better pray for one of the above options, or we will be wishing we had just given Givens the extra $6 million he wanted

Let's go with football psychology: grab TO while he is still available and trade down so that we can get Marcus Vick.

My opinion is that while these are some great receivers, they don't fit what I think McNair wants to be the typical Houston Texans mold (no Eric pun intended). McNair has already said no to T.O. coming here. I understand that Walker was not Sherman's fav, and Keyshawn is a whiner. Just my :twocents: , but I think we are sticking with what we've got if this is all that's left, and I'd be happy that we pass on these guys.

How can we pass? Why must we sacrifice our team for players that are able to teach Sunday School classes on the side? We will forever be losers if all our players also have to be upstanding, "character" guys. We need a few bruisers with attitudes so that we can intimidate the other team. If we stick with what we have, AJ will have another terrible year.

Our current options:

Mathis: Wonderful speed and vision, but still incredibly raw in the route running department, and hasn't shown reliable hands. As he is now, he is simply a young Corey Bradford

Armstrong: Great hands, quickness, and route running. Has never been a consistent starter and no teams showed any interest in him at all. He has all the skills, but can't start, and that worries me. For all the love this board gives him, he probably deserves a very small fraction of it.

If we use one of those two at the #2 position, AJ will be double and triple teamed all year. That will force us into the quick slant and running game only all over again. This is very frustrating

maybe if Denver get T.O they send the Texans Ashlie Lelie for a modest draft pick say a 4th round pick or something like that then we will have a guy good enough to keep double team off A.J. but not good enough to challenge A.J for the number 1 wr plus he could help A.J and Mathis learn the new offense faster since he been in it before but hey who knows anything is possible

Good points, but I think if we have RB lining up as well as a decent TE, that will take pressure off of Dre.

I can see Bush in the slot with Armstrong out wide opposite AJ. The Cowboys had a steady receiver a few years ago that caught nearly everything thrown to him. He was not a burner just dependable. Can't remember his name but he finally left for free agency. I see Derrick as that steady type player. If Putzier signs that offers another target.

Hell, just draft VDavis at TE, and be done with it. With him on the inside and AJ on the outside, Armstrong could be free one on one or utilize Mathis' speed on the qucik slants or posts......

I don't see the point in drafting Reggie Bush just to use him in the slot. He has good hands for a RB, but no one has said he has good hands as a WR!

How can we pass? Because one of these players is proven destructive to his teams. A couple have been suspended for major parts of a season. You don't help a team out by sucking up salary cap while sitting at home and whining about disrespect when you've never shown anyone the same.

TO is the most talented, but on that list i would go with eric moulds. He almost single-handedly made peerless price a probowler. AJ is already a probowler, and might become the best receiver in the NFL playing opposite this guy. Now granted, moulds is not the same receiver that he was 3 years ago, but he can still run routes like almost no other.

I've been visiting another solar system for the last few years so pls remind me why we don't go after Keyshawn Johnson? He seems sort of like TO with a somewhat cleaned up act?

I wouldn't mind Keyshawn at all, can you imagine those two giants on opposite ends of each other!

Well Bill Parcells wasn't going to take any BS in Dallas. I would love Keyshawn to come here though. Yes, he's old, but he can still play. He had 71 catches last year. Not bad for a guy who's been in the league for 10 years. I still think he can play for another 3 years. I'd go for him and hope that Kubiak can keep him in line.

Antonio Bryant, Peerless Price, and Ike Hilliard are all free agents also if I'm not mistaken. I think Bryant is probably out of the Texans price range, but I wouldn't mind Price or Hilliard. He's had a couple of bad seasons the last 2 years, but he wasn't meant to be the #1 WR. He was great as the 2nd option in Buffalo though. He could be great as a 2nd option here also.

Keyshawn is a whiny lil *****, who's ego is equivlent to TO's. That and being 34 doesn't help his cause. Keyshawn is going to go back to the 'Boys anyways. He wanted a lot of money, which is why he in the position he's in now. He'll calm down, and go back and play with the Tuna.

as of now peerless price might be the best option...there is also the aging keenan mccardell...bryant i believed signed with another team recently...other than that we are looking at a draft that is weak with recievers...and we have much more pressing needs that drafting a reciever in the mid rounds and hoping they develop

I'd like Keyshawn here.... I'd be willing to pay him like a high #2..... don't want him thinking anything.... If he takes it, that's fine, if not, we'll be ok. But I like his spirit, his hands, and his toughness. Yeah, Key is tough. he's also a great fire guy on the sidelines.

he'd have had more than 71 catches if Drew had trusted his size a little more often.

Bye the way, a lot of people have said that Bush has great hands, not just for a RB, but great hands in general. I think he would be able to play well in the slot, the only question is if its gonna be enough.

What about Nate Burleson from the Vikings, he had a few good years and would be a good weapon opposite from AJ.

Regardless of who is still available they will not even attempt to land any of these guys yall mentioned. They'll probably bring in some other teams practice squad players and offer theM a million dollar contract just like they've had a track record of doing the past 2 years...(Greenwood, Weigert, Weaver, Rosenfels)

NO GUTS/NO GLORY!!!!! CASSERLY GET W/ THE PROGRAM!

Keyshawn doesn't seem like he wants outragous money. He just said he wants more than 2.5 million a year, and that's half of what givens wanted.

What about DONALD DRIVER a GOOD OL HOUSTON NATIVE and in desoeration only because iof his age ERIC MOULDS???
2CENTS OUT

Face it

Mathis is our #2 next year. Our Offense will be like Denvers and Mathis will basically be our version of ashlie lelie.

Peerless Price or Keyshawn would be great fits as long as they could recognise they would be legitiate #2's. I only want 1 guy like that and bring Mathis on slowly this year with Armstrong. Sign a Price or Keyshawn to a 1 year deal if need be or only 2 if we don't want to overdo it. Surely the FO sees enough sense in that :brickwall

I agree with you on drafting a WR.
I stated this in another post:
We must acquire a experienced WR for the #2 spot, or they will dog AJ, every play, during every game.

I agree with you completely. I think we would be better off with a less implosive WR, though.
