Discussions with Frerotte?

Gus Frerotte - QB - Dolphins

Gus Frerotte was negotiating Wednesday with Denver, Houston, and Miami.
He probably doesn't need to make visits because of his familiarity with each staff. Houston's interest is surprising considering the recent Sage Rosenfels signing. Mar. 16 - 9:01 am et
Source: Miami Herald

I don't even know what to make of this.
This sends the message that we would may be making Carr available for trade and drafting a QB. I wonder how much of this is blowing smoke in hopes to draw trade bait attention for the #1 pick? N.O. has been viewed as the top draw for trading down from their pick... maybe we are marketing our pick a little bit?

Are we not satisfied with Ragone? Have we given him a chance?

If true, this is very strange

It's a smokescreen, pure and simple. We are going to sign Frerotte, cut him and Rosenfels on or before April 25, move Carr to TE, and draft Vince Young.

How am I the only one who can read between the lines on these things?

I don't know what to even say, they have to be doing this because they want people to think that they are considering drafting a qb like you said. This doesn't make any sense. I wasn't happy with Rosenfuls (sp?) signing and this is crazy:brickwall

My point. We have more pressing needs......like using the money on the backup QB to get a 2nd Wideout since Gaffney is no longer on the market either and we are running out of options. Linebacker, Safety, Tightend and list of other positions as well....

Do you have a link to that article? I couldn't find it in the Miami Herald. The only thing that I was able to find about Frerotte was the Dolphins trying to re-sign him.

But this rumor is interesting, because look what is happening in Detriot. They new staff said they liked Harrington from what I remember, and now they just signed like two QB who could start. Gus and Sage are strickly back-ups but they both have started for other teams. I don't even know what to think anymore:goodnight

half way down it talks about Frerotte. The only thing I can think is maybe the info is WAY old. Why do we keep fleecing Miami for players that never pan out as much as we think... Wade, Greenwood, Rosenfels (maybe)...

must be a Casserly kickback on airline flights between Miami and Houston.

If we had not signed Rosenfels to a ludicrous contract I'd be all over this. Forget Young for a second. Basically, it would give them a better option in case Carr doesn't pan out. However, with the two of them you would either cut one or have the highest paid third string QB in history.

Key word in the following sentence...

Frerotte also was negotiating for backup positions with Denver and Houston. A decision by Frerotte could come as early as today.

Probably before Rosenslice was signed.

Actually wrong. This article has today's date on it 3/16. They mention a decision could come today on signing with Houston or Denver. Today meaning 3/16. This is not an old article.

Here is some text:

The Dolphins still have quarterback jobs available despite Culpepper's arrival, so they continued speaking with former starter Gus Frerotte, whose contract they terminated one day earlier, in hopes of re-signing him as their backup.

Frerotte also was negotiating for backup positions with Denver and Houston. A decision by Frerotte could come as early as today. And even if Frerotte returns, the Dolphins still will look to add a quarterback in the draft, although not likely in the first round.

How is that wrong? When did the meaning of "was" change?

No matter when the article is dated, was is in the past.

The was they referred to is yesterday. The decision comes today. Is this really that hard for you to follow? Do I need to draw a diagram here?

Yes, pull out your coloring book and try to stay between the lines.

Go back and read the article. If you can find one line that says anything about Houston negotiating with Frerotte yesterday I will give you my season tickets.

The original poster wasn't exactly truthful, probably just trying to stir the pot... Gotcha!

Not sure why I am arguing with a living lamp post with a dimmer bulb, but let me recap.

The Fins released Ferrotte on Tuesday. That's this Tuesday. We signed Sage prior to that.

From the article:

"Frerotte also was negotiating for backup positions with Denver and Houston. A decision by Frerotte could come as early as today".

Now, since one cannot negoitate with other teams prior to being released, he HAD to have been negotiating with us Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or today.

If you still don't get this, please report to the office. We are fitting a dunce cap for you, and already picked out a corner to go stand in.

I'll assume that you didn't find any evidence and are still making assumptions. Guess I'll plan to keep my tickets.

Maybe they're thinking, "Well, we're not going to improve the O-line so lets stock up on backup QBs. Let's get some good backups, we might have to use all of them."

I wasn't trying to stir the pot... I was seeking clarification, which is exactly why there was a question mark in the title.

It seems fairly obvious when you re-read it that it was a story of the last 2 and a half days transpiring. Either way, it was reported, obviously the Herald had a source, and I was trying to inquire about what everyone thought of the idea.

KFFL is reporting that it is the Rams and Broncos that are interested. Which would make more sense. Might have been a mistake with the Herald writer.

Finally, something about this that makes sense. If this was real, it would have been too weird for words.

Remember, we need backup QB's for the preseason. We don't want people complaining that the Broncos beat us because they had better backups. Anyway, Frerrotte is a better LT than Riley was.

SIGN Ferrotte, to be the Starter, Rosenfells the Backup. TRADE CARR to JETS or OAKLAND. DRAFT VINCE YOUNG to study under FERROTTE for a year or 2. That's the way I see it!!!

You must have something in your eye.

If anything its a mental note to David Carr we are not gonna hesitate to pull you if we feel you are not performing we have signed backups that will produce so get out there and show us why we extended your contract 3 years.
