What to hope for in 2007, Quinn?

Ok folks, usually I'm an optimist, especially when it comes to the NFL, where a team can make extreme improvements from one year to another. Change one, Gary Kub's..........Great Choice and the Texans finally get a coach with fire. Change two, releasing of dead weight players such as Coleman and Walker (In my opinion, both were just milking the contracts). Change Three.....Possibly Reggie Bush in a Texans Uniform.

But let's face it, without the final change, it looks and appears we may be facing the same situation next season. If we were to win more than 3 games next season, Kubiak should be voted NFL Coach and Man of the year. With relatively no changes made thus far in the offseason, except Kubiak doing the offseason interviews, rather than Capers, it looks like the same ol' Texans. I don't even have to wait for the draft and view our selections to understand we're in deep trouble. No #2 WR. No upgrade on the O-Line. No upgrade in he secondary. No upgrade on on the LB Corps. I'm not a genius, but it doesn't take one to see this cannot be accomplished through the draft, if that was the case, there would never be a FA signed.

2007 looks to be shaping up with the Texans slotted at #1 again, and who is available at WR, LB, or DE? Wait, or they trying to lose for Brady Quinn? Wouldn't be a bad choice! Keeping Carr allows them to show the public "we're committed to winning", but also allows them to lose without telling the public they are secretly rebuilding and imploding the team. Just come out and be honest, it was doomed from the start with Capers and Palmer and the entire thing needs corrected. Mark my words, by this time next season, the Texans will be without Carr and Andre Johnson, who will end up asking to be traded and end up with Culpepper in Miami. Word has it, he was frusttrated the past two seasons, with the team not opening up the offense and using him as a decoy for a 5-8, 220lb bowling ball running back, with a history of injury problems in the league (Actually, I love Dominic Davis, but he should not be the focus of the offense).

My last question, who is running things in the organization. I find it hard to believe a coach would come in and not start getting some pieces in play to win right away. Loosing Gaffney to the Eagels, "FOR a 1-Year"contract speaks volumes. How many guys leave a team for 1 year deals, when they can stay and be assured some guaranteed money (regardless of the amount, it's more than 1 year dollars). Gaffney basically says in my outside opinion, there is something wrong with the front office, Charley Casserly, and guys may not want to play here. I think another poster said it best, Givens & Hope used the Texans as leverage against other teams, knowing that McNair has deep pockets and could open the bank if need be, thus raising the cost with other teams. You make the choice, play for a team dedicated to winning or a team dedicated to loosing. Something is wrong there and I would love to know, because my season ticket money is being stolen from me! twocents:

I think that if they were ready to send a message about going in a winning direction, there is no way that this team can realistically expect to be a winning team next year with all the deficiencies.

That being said, positioning ourselves for Quinn next year wouldn't make much sense to me. We could have dangled Carr this off season and then taken Leinart (sorry Longhorn fans) who comes from great lineage at USC, played ina pro style offense already, and has shown demonstrated maturity.

He will be one of the most marketable faces in football the next 6-8 years. That will do a lot for drawing attention to the Texans. Quinn is good, but not nearly as proven as Leinart.

One could argue that Bush and Quinn is more attractive than Leinart and someone else, but I would rather establish a QB in the new system this year and shrink the time it takes for the QB to become familiar with the system.

I trust Kube's, because he knows it is either a 2-3 year learning curve for a young qb starting this year, or next year for Quinn. Who wants that time table? I trust Kube's decision that Carr can be a success, why would Kube's risk success when he has a choice to build a team with great pieces to choose from? There is a reason for the decision to go with Carr and I am on board.

Aren't we bringing this a tad bit too early. As much as I wanted VY, the organization wants to go with Carr. Give the guy a chance to do something first before we start talking about Brady Quinn.:brickwall

P.S. VY is still suited better to run a Kubiak offense, since the team will be using the same offense that Jake Plummer ran. (i.e. a plethora of Naked bootlegs, roll outs and throwing on the run.) Leinart can do it, but even he said during the combine that he wanted to prove to people that he could move. That is something that scouts have no doubt that VY can do. Carr can as well

It's never a bad time to dream about replacing Carr. We can dream... can't we?

I would prefer never to have a QB drafted in the first round.

I am hoping we will be coming off of a 7-9ish season and I will not have to read this kind of silliness on this board ever again. Then again, in the immortal words of wonger, we can all dream, can't we?

I love David Carr and I think he will be a great QB. I love Johnson more than any player in the league......Quite frankly he is fromm THE U!. But, are they providing these guys will weapons, NO. Any player wil get frustrated. I have talked to people close to Johnson and he's not at all happy. That is the reason for the post. What could be the only reason. Nothing positive has really taken place this season. Just trying to add another spin to what seems to be an endless amount of mishaps by Charley C!
