Texans Strength of Schedule

Uncle Rico

Ur apology should be as loud as Ur disrespect was
Some of you guys have downplayed this to great lengths over the years, I've always been one to keep an eye on this type of stuff and how it correlates with possible success/failure such as last years fairly easy schedule. Next year will be no joke. 4th hardest schedule in the NFL. Better get that OLine shored up ASAP!

It's true, we don't know what we don't know. Each team is new every year. We don't know how good or bad the Panthers are going to be. & our whole division is a crap shoot every year.

Still it does mean something.

Vegas has us winning 8.5 games, the Colts (& their vastly superior OL) at 9.5

It's going to be an interesting season.

Yup just like last years cakewalk SOS suddenly became a more difficult course to manage as teams found themselves and performed BUT there were still some grapefruits thrown in there that wont be there this year. Yes the year has to start and teams have to jockey for position, but even a casual glance at the schedule next year doesnt inspire warm fuzzy's .. but it may be Bill OBriens REdemption Song, or the sad tune of TAPS at the end of the year. I would say its another Buttchin Special .. 9-7 and probably a 10 year extension cuz "he did so good with the hardest schedule we need to lock him up for life" LOL

With bye weeks and extra rest, schedule helps the Lions, hurts the Patriots
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 17, 2019, 9:20 PM EDT

Nothing we learned when the schedule was released this evening told us anything we didn’t already know about how easy or hard any team’s slate of opponents is, because we already knew every team’s home and road opponents. But we did learn one way in which the schedule-makers helped the Lions and hurt the Patriots.

That is in rest days, where the Lions will have an NFL-best 12 more rest days than their opponents over the course of the season, while the Patriots will have an NFL-worst 13 fewer rest days than their opponents, according to Brian Burke of ESPN.

That’s primarily because the Lions never play an opponent coming off a bye, while the Patriots play three games against opponents coming off their byes. The Lions also benefit from extra rest before playing at Minnesota, after their annual Thanksgiving home game.

Other teams that got favorable schedules from a rest perspective include the Chargers, Buccaneers, Panthers and Bills. Teams that got unfavorable schedules include the Dolphins, Eagles, Packers and 49ers.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

The Texans evidently fall into the middle-of-the-road category.

Toughest 2019 NFL schedules: Eagles, Broncos have hard roads

Indianapolis Colts

Starting the season with back-to-back road games is always a bummer. The Colts have to do it against the Chargers and Titans, two teams they could be battling with for playoff positioning. The Colts' schedule is imbalanced because they'll face so many of their toughest opponents -- the Chargers, Chiefs, Steelers and Saints -- on the road.

I can see the Colts taking the division, can't see the Titans over 10 wins though. Indy may be the only team in the AFC South to win 10 or more this season.

If the Titans can stay healthy, they should be dangerous with the additions during the offseason that they made: Saffold, Humphries, Wake, Tannehill.

Last year, even with all the injuries, they still won 9 while losing 2 by a SINGLE point.

11 wins isn't too far-fetched an idea.

I think it depends on how often good Mariota shows up. If he's at all worried about Tannehill, which he shouldn't be, he may try to play when he shouldn't & make things worse. I like the kid, the talent. Just don't think he's mentally tough.

Let's see, the jags added a SB winning QB. Titans and colts were solid last year with 1st yr head coaches. Do they move forward as coaches??? Good chance.

OB???

He just needs to stay healthy.

I'm not sure what you mean by mentally tough, but if you're referring to his injury history, he showed toughness missing only 3 games last season...............he dealt with injuries that went beyond what was on the Injury Reports and what was made public.

  • He dealt with an ulnar nerve issue, which gave him a bum throwing hand.
  • He suffered a neck stinger against the Colts in Week 11 and re-injured it in Week 16 against the Redskins. That second instance was why he couldn’t play in Week 17.
  • He sustained a cracked vertebra.
  • His plantar fascia had a significant tear during the season, which extended into a full tear in Week 16.
  • He had a torn oblique.
  • He suffered a broken rib
  • He dealt with a sprained AC shoulder joint.

Mariota was never allowed to properly rest/rehab his injuries because the team had no legitimate backup until Tannehill was finally brought in. Although Mariota has always seemed to have hit and miss performances (with also a 2017 season marred with injuries, especially the chronic hamstring problem that took him from a very mobile quarterback to virtually a sitting duck), last year makes it that much more confusing in determining if he was held back by injury or if he just is not very good. If injuries don't mar the picture this season (and that's a big if), we and the Titans may finally be able to figure out what they have.

Well were boned!

The Saints are gonna punch us in the nuts then pee on us while were writhing in pain on the ground. Then the refs are gonna throw a flag against us........... just because.

The rookies in the o-line thinks the wetness is from rain and wonders if a human body can fold and bend... just like Wastson's is now.

They've got the AFCS all pretty much together. Within a game of each other. Gonna be interesting this year. All the media pundits are all over the Colts jock already. I got a bad feeling Reich and Luck are gonna bend OB and the Texans over a barrel this year.

Not if the Defense can learn how to stop a ball in the air or at least make the QB wait a few seconds more before throwing it. Luck is good no doubt but I've never know him to change his style mid game based on what the D is doing. That was always what made Brady so dangerous, you shut down the run he goes deep ball, you shut down the deep ball he goes for short 5-10 yard passes, you completely shut the passing game, rarely happens, he lets the run game do its thing. Luck is a pocket passer that can hit a bull's eye with the football but he has to have time to line up the throw, its why he's gotten chewed up by sacks so much.

Colts may still take the Texans to town because they know their weaknesses and adjust accordingly, QB is a pocket passer then give him as much a pocket as you can with a strong Oline. That's my biggest problem with BoB, he tries to make the player fit the system rather than the system fit the player. That's fine if we are just talking someone like a Blue or Griffon but when its your franchise QB you design the system around him.

T Y HILTON is the weakness.
I agree with what you are saying. Luck is very much a pocket passer and that is why the front office over there is investing in that OL. They have a good one. Crennel needs to get it figured out on D against these guys. And for the love of all things football, can we get TY covered!?
The playoff game the D played well after the initial barrage of TD's. Gave the O a chance but Ob couldn't get it figured out.

Would any of you analytically gifted types be interested in presenting our schedule along with our opponents 2018 defensive ranking, points allowed, sacks generated, & forced fumbles?

Thank you. Many were talking about how tough our schedule was because of the QBs we'll be facing.

We've only got 5 games against teams ranked in the bottom half. Sheesh.
