Thanks for your support!

If we’re below .500 by mid season, and our O-line is still terrible...

Hell I don’t even remember so much as changing the snap count. I’m sure we did occasionally but does anyone remember us doing it with the intention of drawing the defense off sides? He does nothing scheme wise to help the offense except to leave TEs or extra OT in to block. He has no imagination.

changing up the snap count is more of a qb thing...but i digress

i'm wondering if any of you have ever run or developed a scheme/gameplan for a game outside of the "ask Madden" feature on Madden. You literally just contradicted yourself in the same sentence. Nevertheless, to add to your list:

rb's chipping before going out in route
TE's chipping before going out in route
max protection
spreading defenses out with 4-5 WR sets
staying balanced as much as you could with the run & pass
Qb keepers
rolling the pocket
short passing game in a variety of ways.......those bubble screens ya'll just love count within this.
Trick plays/WR/TE motion/multiple play fakes

Probably a few i forgot as well but you get the point. All of that stuff was drawn up SCHEME WISE & incorporated into the offense & used REGULARLY every....single......week in attempts to either slow the rush, buy DW4 more time, force the defense into making a coverage mistake or simply to get the ball out of DW4's hands quickly.

I mean we saw it all last year. But you know what? There's only so much you can do before you run out of things you can do b/c you don't have the horses up front.

Hmmm remember when Watson was lighting it up his rookie year. What was different then and now? Was the OL any better than it is now? WRs? RB? No OB actually schemed up the offense and it worked beautifully. But old butt chin decided that wasn’t what he wanted his offense to look like and went back to his old crappy offense and here we are. He’s a pig headed moron.

He was playing hurt and wouldn't make it thru the season, just like his rookie year. Is that what you want?

I've never understood the "i feel sorry for player X" mentality fans get sucked into b/c players they like are in unfavorable team situations. DW4 is the face of a franchise on the up & up (whether yall wanna believe that or not is on yall), Is playing the game that he loves & had a breakout season last year. If he stays healthy in a few years, he's also gonna be a million at least 100 times over as well. I'm DW4 aint feeling to sorry for himself these days, so why should I?

& i know this thread is about the o-line not protecting him & giving him time & whatnot, but he didn't do himself anyy favors in that department last year either. He's gotta continue to learn to give up on some plays & live to fight another down at times too. He said it himself last year.

So just because a player gets paid a lot of money you can't have empathy about another human who is getting the absolute crap beat out of him compared to the majority of his other colleagues? Don't understand that take, but I do agree with you that Watson didn't help his cause multiple times last season either.

When the Cons outweigh the Pros.. extremely banged up or we suck so bad upfront that our QB is just getting his brains beat in then the towel might need to come out. I want to see Watson have a 15 year career here.
This is exactly what I meant. But, hey... let’s risk him getting seriously hurt just so assjaw won’t get the pink slip. Here's hoping for a good draft, and that O’Brien has FINALLY learned something, and that Carl Smith makes Watson a little more polished.

No chance this coaching staff benches Watson for taking hits. You genuinely wonder if coaches value their jobs and wellbeing over Watson's health and progression?

They'd play a guy in a wheelchair if it meant a chance for success.

Well OP your questions have been answered. The only thing I can add is I surely hope we see some improvement all around on that offense. Starting with coaching, then health and that offensive line.

Something like has never happened and will never happened. If you're going to bench the star QB, you better be ready to bench every other quality starter you have, because if you don't, you just showed them that their careers don't mean as much, TOO THE HC, as the star QB. Pretty ridiculous to even speculate about. The draft, OTAs and mini camps can't get here soon enough.

No, I was talking the guy that signed a multi-year contract to coach a major school ( I think Tennessee?) then left early to coach a NFL team (Falcons?) then left mid-season to return to college ranks

Bobby Petrino signed a 10 year deal with Louisville 2006. Then he signed a 5 year deal with Atlanta 2007. They traded Schaub to us, Vick got busted and Petrino bailed mid season to go to Arkansas where he coached Ryan Mallett. He's back at Louisville now.

If we're below .500 at midseason and the OL is still terrible (poll question) for whom do you root? _Cowboys _Saints _Cardinals

To answer Seegara's question, I'd root for New Orleans. Definitely not Dallas.
But the bigger question is what to do if the Texans have 4 or fewer wins at the midpoint. IMO, if that happens and it's not due to catastrophic injuries, it will be largely due to BOB. Gaine should then dictate terms to let the OC or QB coach call the plays. Put BOB on a very short, tightly held leash. I would hesitate to replace BOB mid-season. History shows that's not a winning hand. Do that after the season.

If the Texans are 4-4 and the injury bug hasn't been catastrophic and OBs offense is a major reason why the record is what it is, why bother keeping him on? All you're doing is increasing the risk of major injury to Watson, due to OBs ridiculous play calling and the Texans aren't likely to be winning much, anyway. I've seen all I need to see of OB to know that he's not NFL OC/HC material.

If it really gets bad by mid-season and Gaine tries to force BOB to let the QB coach or OC call plays and lead the game planning, how would BOB react? Any man's ego would make it tough to hang around. Would he up and quit? Then who would be the interim HC? RAC is the obvious choice, but at his age he may not want the job. But RAC wouldn't mind letting someone else run the offense. And after the season, who would Cal and Gaine look at to be the next HC?

And who would we get to be the next HC? What would be the next system? Would the new guy be any better? You might say he couldn't be any worse, but is that really true? Plenty of HCs have been / are significantly worse than BOB, who is probably middle of the pack. I'm not saying stick with BOB just because we could end up with another middle of the pack guy or worse, but we must consider that it's a roll of the dice. I guess I'm hoping that between Gaine and the new QB coach (with less hope for the impact of the new OC, though I'm waiting to see), OB will become a new and improved HC. If not and he's gone, he won't be without a job for long.

He got fired at Louisville

If Cal can't find someone better, he needs to sell the team.

I hope O'Brien coaches someone in the afc South next like the jaguars

Its not just this coaching staff its the entire NFL and really professional sports in general. Texans aren't the first, only or last team to play guys hurt its been going on pretty much since the dawn of sports. the best players are the same way, I mean look at Watt they pretty much had to drag him off the field kicking and screaming when he got hurt. There are a lot of things you can blame the coaches for but you can't blame them for doing the same thing every other team would do if they thought it would lead to success. About the only times coaches save players is when the game absolutely means nothing like a pre-season game or if its the last game of the season and no prayer of a post season.

Not saying I agree with it but its the reality of modern professional sports.

Why, because you don't like O'Brien as coach? The McNairs paid a LOT of money to be NFL team owners so they can do whatever they want with it within NFL rules. Just because some, not even all just some, fans don't like the decisions they make doesn't mean anyone has the right to tell them they should sell. That would be like if you went out, bought a sports car, never drove it over 55 and then I tell you that you aren't driving it right you need to sell it.

Hate to be the barer of bad news but neither the McNairs nor the Texans overall owe the city of Houston or its fans anything just like we don't owe them anything. If you truly don't like the team then you can not spend any money on it, cheer for a different team or stop watching professional football all together. This entitled BS of "I didn't pay any money towards something but I'm going to tell the person that did what they should do with it" is really a sign of the times. And no buying a couple of jerseys or even season tickets for all 16 years still does not give you the right to tell them they should sell the team.

Maybe they will die soon

Is that better for you?

I do have the right to call them carpetbaggers

Most people see a train wreck and slow down to look... SteelB sees a trainwreck, stops his truck, jumps out cheering because he predicted that someday there would be one

You just don't like that most of my predictions over the last decade have come true.

Do you think I want to be right?

Your predictions are like saying the sun will rise today

Yes, you love the 'I told ya so' game

With the Texans it's that easy.

I get no joy out of being right that this is and has been a mediocre franchise since their inception.

So you're going to tell him your plan for fixing the Texans?

O already have.

Either 1. Be a player in fa like the Rams/Eagles etc...

Or 2. Tear it down to the ground and accumulate as many draft picks as possible to build around Watson and Hopkins.

Either way would be fine with me, because it would break the cycle of mediocrity.

details man...

start from today and keep the cap and future years in mind

But the wife keeps you as a 'fan' right?

I will always be a fan of Houston sports team. Some are good at wjwh they do. Some I've just learned to laugh at and realize PT Barnum had it right all along.

I can see me selling off game tickets and going to New York to meet with my son more often. I'm headed back from moving him to Connecticut as we speak.

Which way do you want me to start ?

On FA I would have signed Brown and traded Clowney to free up $$$$ for Watson's extension and gotten draft picks fpf Clowney.

Tearing it down means trading Watt/JoJo etc... Anybody not on their 1st contract for picks and doing a total rebuild, excluding Watson and Hopkins.

Football trash talk aside, stay safe traveling.
