Has anyone heard how Joppru's rehab is coming along? I'm curious to see if he'll finally be able to get healthy for this season.
 
It has been very quiet. I understand it takes some time to recover from this type of injury, but he should be ready by training camp. I say if he doesn't look great, he should be cut before season begins.
 
I havent heard a thing in ages .....


I think they should plan to play the season Without Joppru period .... If he can contribute something to the team its a bonus ....I'd hate to start another season counting on him to get serious playing time and end up on the PuP again :twocents:
 
I hate to say this but why not just cut him now? Yes, it won't save anything cap wise, but at least you go into the draft/rest of free agency knowing he won't be there. Now, we have this delusion that maybe he won't miss a FOURTH CONSECUTIVE season to a freak injury.
 
I've heard his rehab has been successful; hopefully he won't reinjure his knee/groin/something else.
 
I forget the on air personality but one of our radio sportstalk guys was gushing about his size since he has seen him at the Texans weight room working out on a regular basis (this was a couple of weeks ago). I hope Joppru can make it back. It would be a great story but I won't hold my breath. I’m pulling for him. He didn’t rip his groin off his bone on purpose, and the knee injury was a freak injury.
 
Does it bother anybody that the Texans are paying the guy for three years of not playing or even remotely having any chance whatsoever of getting onto the playing field?

I know that bad things happen, and I'm not blaming Joppru. I'm moreso blaming Texans management for not giving the guy a buy-out or something to just move on.

Does anyone here SERIOUSLY think that after those devastating injuries...that he'll be able to play in a very physical NFL and not get re-injured in those hot spots within about a three-game span of time?

Shake your head at me. Flame me. Send me that nastily-worded private message that calls me a s.o.b. I am just tired of the story, and I'm wanting to move on before Houston Texans and Bennie Joppru become part of one of the weirdest sports trivia questions of all time: Which NFL team paid a draft pick for four straight years of zero playing time, only to cut the player afterwards?

I heard it too. It was McClain and Granado (I think) talking about it in the morning a couple of weeks ago. Both said he is a gym rat, and that he's gotten noticeably bigger since last year.

Don't give up on the guy yet. I'm sure he feels worse about his injuries than anybody else. He wants to play, no doubt. The question is whether he has the heart to do what it takes to make it back from the adversity he's faced the past three years.
 
Wasn't there some discussion a couple of months ago about Capers' practice philosophy contributing to the injuries of players? Perhaps we'll see less injuries this year.
 
After the season was over, someone on 610 was saying that Joppru was down to like 205-210 LBS. Got a lot of bulk to add back.....

Watch him come back, and have his one break-out out year and the Texans sign him to a monster contract. Ha!
 
I understand the frustration..I really holding a sliver of hope he makes it back. If he is re-injured I think it will be the end of the road for him and the Texans, make it or break it.
 
I'm just the opposite of you gpshafer. I'm wanting to know if the Texans and Joppru can make it four straight. I just don't think that's possible. If it does happen and Joppru makes it four straight years of season ending injuries then I know the answer to a great trivia question, Bennie got paid for four years of trying and rehab, and at this point the Texans aren't out anything more than they would be if they cut him two weeks ago.

Why not bring back Joppru for one more shot? The damage is done and the pick is long gone.
 
Does anyone remember when the injury happened last year, the idea of Joppru juicing was brought up?

Something to the effect that the injuries that he had sustained were areas that happen with use of steroids, and the fact that he had been so injury prone.

This was just a few opinions, I didn't read anything about this from any news source, so please, don't run wild with this as factual information. I was bringing it up so see if anyone remembered this being said.
 
You know Joppru was very good a Michigan. He was never injured and the Texans had a lot of hopes for him. His injuries have been freak, to say the least. I'm also in his corner and hope that he can make a come back. If he can play to his abilities, we'll have a very above average TE.
 
a few days ago i didnt have a good feeling about him, but today for some odd reason i think he'll make it, i feel that his string of bad luck injuries is over, well i hope so anyways.

Are you kidding? This is a board where it's ok for players to underperform their contract no matter what. It seems we are in the minority cause I totally agree with you. Joppru. Good guy, i'm sure great guy. But this is a results business.

Thanks, Vinny. If you think about how long he has been trying to make it back to the Texans and what he has gone through the guy must have a heck of a heart and a lot of desire. I like that kind of player on a team. The other guys will look up to him and say there's a lot of fight in that guy. As you and others have so admirally stated we aren't paying that much anyway. If he is anywhere close to a 100% he could be a real gem. He won't be a Davis, but he could still have a bigger impact than a lot of posters think.

The difference being DC has been on the field to earn a lil' of that huge contract. Not saying what happened to BJ is deserved because it isn't in any way, shape or form but unless we get a Pro-Bowl type year out of him this year, you have to wonder why we didn't try to manage his injuries situation a lot better than we apparently have done.

Wouldn't it be great if BJ has a break out year and wants big $$$ and we lose him to someone else? I just know what to think when it comes to this whole BJ experiment, i'm past the stage of being either too DAMN mad or needing to cry. I just hope he makes it back and we get a lengthened career out of a guy who won't have a lot of use on that frame of his...
 
I would sure hope he would be willing to take a chance with the Texans when FA rolls around for him, considering the Texans took a huge chance on him. Of course, business is business and I fully expect him to go where the money is. It was just a nice thought.

Heart and Desire Ibar??? - I'm thinking it's more in the line of - his Paycheck that kept him coming back. Who in their right mind would turn down millions of dollars to work out and stay home and play video games? What else does he have to do that will pay him even close to that much money? Nada.

Ive been on the Joppru is a bust wagon for some time now. I really hope he makes the money and roster spot worth all that we paid for him - but honestly I dont expect him to ever see the field in a Texans uni. He might have been good in college, but obviously his body cant take the beating it once could as 3 career injuries in a row doesnt exactly give me a warm fuzzy feeling about him making it back on the field, much less in playing shape with NFL speed and timing. He's been out a long time in NFL terms without playing at all and it makes me wonder if he will ever play anywhere again.

I guess on the plus side of things - If he does make it back - he didnt play during any of the time hes been here - He always broke down before the season started, so hopefully he didnt learn many bad habits fro mthe "Capers & CO" crew.

Nice to hear. Got to be hard to spend three years in constant rehab and work-out to reestablish your size mode, and he's done it without incident and blowing up in the media. Now granted he is being payed, and that probaly contributes to why he has been a model citizen. He also is still trying to make it, and you gotta admit if he quite nobody would blame him. But he hasn't quite, and for that he deserves a little respect.

I hope he makes it into the NFL, but I'm not counting on it.

They say he'll be back to normal by September......in crutches.
 
You guys are missing the obvious, although someone almost got it a few posts back. He WILL have his break out year, get a huge, long-term contract, and then be hurt for the next five years after. :brickwall

Yes. It can happen. He could also slip on a patch of ice in the middle of summer and break his tailbone but he's worth holding to see if he'll be healthy and perform. I am like Vinny on this, I'm not holding my breath either. But that won't stop me from pulling for the guy.

I can't wait to get Joppru back...he's gonna impress. He's just got to be careful. Leave your tendons and knee alone.
 
Perhaps we can line up Bennie opposite Andre as the other WR considering Casserly & Co., has done a damn thing in free agency on the offensive side. Well....unless you count $2M signing gone for Sage????? Are you freaking kidding me........Sage Rosenfels????????? That's worse than resigning Tony Banks.

I am SOOOOO hoping Casserly & Co. are gone this year. :crying:
