OT 2019 Simulator Draft......

OptimisticTexan

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
Ok...I know it's way early but for shites-n-giggles, I did a simulator 2019 NFL Draft for the Texans and it didn't turn out half bad:

015: R1P15: CB / GREEDY WILLIAMS / LSU **Shutdown Corner**

047: R2P15: OLB / JOSH ALLEN / KENTUCKY **Beast that makes Clowney expendable**

048: R2P16: RB / BRYCE LOVE / STANFORD **If healthy, nice addition to Foreman**

078: R3P14: RT / DAVID EDWARDS / WISCONSIN **Could be Day1 starter**

117: R4P15: LT / MITCH HYATT / CLEMSON **Could push to start at LT right away**

155: R5P15: OG / YODNY CAJUSTE / WEST VIRGINIA **Projected as OG but could play OT**

189: R6P15: RB / KARAN HIGDON / MICHIGAN **Could be a awesome 3rd down back and returner**

231: R7P15: QB / JUSTICE HANSEN / ARKANSAS STATE **Solid developmental QB**

I wasn't following the actual "R" number and wanted another CB in this draft. Oh well, I'll try again when I get a little bored.

28: R1P28 CB DEANDRE BAKER GEORGIA
52: R2P20 RB BRYCE LOVE STANFORD
60: R2P28 TE JACE STERNBERGER TEXAS A&M
91: R3P27 EDGE CHASE WINOVICH MICHIGAN
167: R5P28 OT MITCH HYATT CLEMSON
202: R6P27 G DRU SAMIA OKLAHOMA
221: R7P5 DL ANTHONY NELSON IOWA

I took a few small trade downs to stock up on mid round picks:

Your score is: 29833 (GRADE: A)

Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 5 (DET): Murphy, Byron, CB, Washington (A)
Round 2 Pick 26: Okwuegbunam, Albert, TE, Missouri (A)
Round 2 Pick 29 (N.E.): Jennings, Anfernee, OLB, Alabama (A)
Round 3 Pick 2 (S.F.): Ferguson, Jaylon, DE, Louisiana Tech (A)
Round 3 Pick 8 (JAX): Jenkins, Elgton, C/OT, Mississippi State (A)
Round 3 Pick 17 (DET): Love, Bryce, RB, Stanford (A+)
Round 3 Pick 25: Lindstrom, Chris, OG, Boston College (A+)
Round 3 Pick 29 (JAX): Hyatt, Mitch, OT, Clemson (A)
Round 4 Pick 9 (JAX): Johnson, Jaquan, SS, Miami (FL) (A+)
Round 5 Pick 26: Sagapolu, Olive, DT, Wisconsin (A+)
Round 6 Pick 25: Renfrow, Hunter, WR, Clemson (A+)
Round 7 Pick 26: Davis III, Felton, WR, Michigan State (A+)

I think if we can get Mitch Hyatt to start working out with Brian Cushing and eating mexican meat with Duane Brown then he'll be a stud at LT.

Not sure what you did on those "trade downs" but that would be one heck of a haul!

FYI, the Texans current draft locations for the first 3 rounds are:

1-23
2-53 (from Seattle)
2-55
3-86

The Texans will draft in the 23rd slot in every round other than the 3rd, 6th (both due to supplemental picks ahead of them), the 4th (pick dealt to Denver in Thomas trade) and the 7th (Texans flipped picks with the Broncos).

Don't reach or you'll end up with a B .

I 'heard' from "a source" that the hair failed a couple of PED tests....

Is the source Donald's toupee?

They met in toupee support group, "my guy is so infuriating with his over-compensating for his inferiority complex. If I get one more spritz of hairspray I may jump."

That’s no toupee, it’s the ultimate comb-over starting over the left ear. He’s got some top hair to work the comb-over. I think he should go to a military high and tight cut.... change his look.

I thought that but a gust of wind caught him on the steps to Air Force One. That squirrel flapped high.

Multiple simulated mock drafts for Texans do not match up well for 2019 OL draft class. Corner does. So either go that route or trade down to add more offensive line prospect that grade out value wise to shore up weakness. Maybe land a big free agent tackle that could be huge for next season.

Which big board are you going by? I've seen Little in the top ten on several boards. As high as 6 I think on one.

Agreed usually Little is taken by Ravens, their biggest need as well, who just so happen to have pick before Texans.

Kyler Murray declaring for the draft could have QB needy teams getting a little impatient and trading up to get a QB.....that's a good thing if it happens b/c with such a strong DL, WR and CB class, OL could get closer for the Texans to have some options.

Those would not have been my OLine choices, .... but that group would be the greatest haul of talent this franchise has ever seen .... Great Job !!

First Pick finally updated their site. I had the time yesterday to do a draft and took into consideration the possibility that Gaines and OB may not be putting such a high priority on LT since they may want to see how Davenport progresses in YR3. I also took into consideration that the Texans could go (2) strong FA's to address or bridge the situation at both the LT and CB positions.

Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 01: (ARI): Risner, Dalton, OT, Kansas State (A) / 6-5 @ 308 lbs / Can play anywhere on the OL. Target RT.
Round 2 Pick 22: David Montgomery, RB, Iowa State (A+) / 5-11 @ 219 lbs / Can handle every job required for RB. Day 1 starter.
Round 2 Pick 23: Mullen, Trayvon, CB, Clemson (A+) / 6-2 @ 190 lbs / Big physical CB who can cover.
Round 3 Pick 01 (ARI): Ridley, Riley, WR, Georgia (A) / 6-2 @ 200 lbs / Has the size, wheels and hands to be perfect fit with Watson. Just under used at Georgia.
Round 3 Pick 22: McCoy, Erik, OC, Texas A&M (A+) / 6-4 @ 315 lbs / A OL with a mean streak who is smart and can play both C and G. This is a need on the Texans OL.
Round 4 Pick 01 (ARI): Oliver, Josh, TE, San Jose State (A+) / 6-5 @ 250 lbs / A complete TE who does everything.
Round 5 Pick 23: Johnson, Isaiah, CB, Houston (A+) / 6-2 @ 195 lbs / My sleeper pick if he falls. He's physical and fast.
Round 6 Pick 22: Kaufusi, Corbin, DE, BYU (A+) / 6-9 @ 285 lbs / Coming off an injury but at this point in the draft he'd be well worth the pick. Could be an outstanding bookend to Watt.
Round 7 Pick 23: Miller, Shareef, LB, Penn State (A+) / 6-5 @ 257 lbs / An OLB who is an edge setter. Texans would need to keep him focused on being good at this since it's one of the teams weakness' on defense.

I'm going to give you an A on that draft, just for covering that many positions.

Crazy, it only required 2 more picks in this draft. I could get 2 more picks a few different ways but the simulator offered up the right package.

This go round I used the Fanspeak Draft Simulator. I'm counting on a couple of veterans in FA to help at LT and CB. There was a decent run on OL and CB's so I had to change my game plan. The good thing about the run, it pushed RB's and WR's down the list.

023: R1P23 RB JOSH JACOBS ALABAMA

053: R2P21 OT DALTON RISNER KANSAS STATE

055: R2P23 WR DEEBO SAMUEL SOUTH CAROLINA

086: R3P22 CB ISAIAH JOHNSON HOUSTON

162: R5P23 OT MITCH HYATT CLEMSON

197: R6P22 CB BLACE BROWN TROY

222: R7P06 QB EASTON STICK NORTH DAKOTA STATE

I was really surprised Hyatt and Brown slid this far down in this draft but I would consider both steals to get this late in the draft.

The best OT's were off the board and I decided to go with the BPA in RD1 and it turned out to Josh Jacobs...I would hope he's worth the pick b/c he's certainly getting all the hype as being possibly the best RB in the draft. This would send Blue on his way. If Foreman is fully recovered, that could make Miller the 3rd down back he should've been from the get-go. Jacobs, Foreman and Miller could make an interesting trio of back for the Texans.

It would be awesome if a Deebo Samuel would be there late in RD2 but if he was....that's a pick I couldn't get to the podium fast enough. He's got speed, excellent route running, and good hands...great bookend to Hopkins. Fuller would have to fight for his playing time.

I can't say again how much I like Isaiah Johnson....he'd be an awesome pick in RD3, especially if he comes to the Texans along with Blace Brown. Both of these guys could really help the Texans backfield.

Easton Stick would be another pick I'd be really happy with as a project QB. His showing at the East-West practices were underwhelming but I'd put little stock in how he performs on short notice with new personnel. NDS did win another Championship and he was their QB. Has a sound arm and is mobile and roughly the same size as Watson. I think he could be a perfect QB to groom as QB3 or on the PS for his 1st season. Hell, sign Weeden on the cheap and let him help with the grooming process of this young QB.

I did a mock with first-pick, and I can say I wouldn’t be upset if this happened.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 28 (LAC): Cajuste, Yodny, OT, West Virginia (A-)
Round 2 Pick 7 (T.B.): Risner, Dalton, OT/OG, Kansas State (B+)
Round 2 Pick 23: Marshall, Iman, CB, Southern California (A-)
Round 3 Pick 27 (LAC): Hockenson, T.J., TE, Iowa (A+)
Round 5 Pick 23: Henderson, Darrell, RB, Memphis (A+)
Round 6 Pick 22: Rypien, Brett, QB, Boise State (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23: Johnson, Isaiah, CB, Houston (A+)

I like it... not realistic imho, but I do like it

I took a couple trade downs that I couldn't turn down.

Round 2 Pick 23: Mullen, Trayvon, CB, Clemson (A-)
Round 2 Pick 26 (DAL): Ridley, Riley, WR, Georgia (A-)
Round 2 Pick 27 (IND): Jacobs, Josh, RB, Alabama (A)
Round 3 Pick 22: Hockenson, T.J., TE, Iowa (A+)
Round 3 Pick 26 (DAL): McGovern, Connor, C, Penn State (A+)

Round 6 Pick 22: Johnson Jr, Lonnie, CB, Kentucky (A)
Round 7 Pick 23: Hansen, Chase, SS, Utah (A+)

I took a couple of trade downs as well on First Pick.

1. Traded RD1-23 to San Francisco for RD2-04 / RD3-03 / RD4-02. Who wouldn't make this trade if offered?

2. Traded RD3-23 to Arizona for RD4-01 / RD5-01 / RD6-01. Again, who wouldn't make this trade if it was offered?

DRAFT

Round 2 Pick 04 (SF): Dillard, Andre, OT, Washington State (A)
Round 2 Pick 22: Mullen, Trayvon, CB, Clemson (A)
Round 2 Pick 23: Jacobs, Josh, RB, Alabama (A)

Round 3 Pick 03 (SF): McCoy, Erik, C, Texas A&M (A)

Round 4 Pick 01 (ARI): Montgomery, David, RB, Iowa State (A+)
Round 4 Pick 02 (SF): Oliver, Josh, TE, San Jose State (A+)

Round 5 Pick 01 (ARI): Johnson, Isaiah, CB, Houston (A+)
Round 5 Pick 23: Gustin, Porter, OLB, USC (A+)

Round 6 Pick 01 (ARI): Granderson, Carl, DE, Wyoming (A+)
Round 6 Pick 22: Evans, Bobby, OT, Oklahoma (A+)

Round 7 Pick 23: Mims, Denzel, WR, Baylor (A+)

That would be a crazy haul of talent while snapping up the two best RB's in the draft. Check out the write up on Mims.

To make Trade number 1 close to even, the Texans would have to kick back their 3rd round pick (#86).

To make Trade number 1 close to even, the Texans would receive Arizona's 4th, 5th, & 7th round picks.

yeah but in the simulator world reality isn't necessary

I don't code any longer (slow brain and weak eyes), but I'm pretty sure I could include a check against a draft value table. There was a simulator a few years ago that did check the value table. I don't remember the name and I don't think it's still around. You could propose trades as well as receive them.

Yeah I remember seeing that once I believe. fun to play with

I realize their simulator isn't based in reality. I could see the SF yielding their RD2 and RD3 for the Texans RD1-23. I could see the deal with Arizona yielding pretty much what you stated, a RD7-1 instead of a RD6-1. Either way, I could still make this haul in extra picks work tremendously well.

This is going to be a crazy draft b/c of the defensive depth, WR's and the fringe depth on the OL. I don't agree with where they have certain players available but I wouldn't be totally surprised if these players fell into these slots.....the guys picked in front of them did not represent reaches....solid picks.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 23: Sweat, Montez, DE, Mississippi State (A-)
Round 2 Pick 22: Dillard, Andre, OT/OT, Washington State (A)
Round 2 Pick 23: Edwards, David, OT, Wisconsin (A)
Round 3 Pick 22: McCoy, Erik, OG/C, Texas AM (A+)
Round 5 Pick 23: Humphrey, Lil'Jordan, WR, Texas (A+)
Round 6 Pick 22: Smith , Saivion, CB, Alabama (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23: Johnson, Isaiah, CB, Houston (A+)

CB didn't come until late as I was going best valuable only...
wouldn't mind this draft at all

I realize their simulator isn't based in reality. I could see the SF yielding their RD2 and RD3 for the Texans RD1-23.
I would make both deals even with the adjustments. To get 4 picks between from #36 to #67 would provide not only help in 2019, but core players as the team enters the next phase of the Watson era.

Still, SF only has 6 picks.. I see them more likely to move down for extra picks than trade up. New England, however, may receive as many as 4 comp picks, and has an additional #3 from a 2018 draft trade. If Gronk does retire, Belichick may want to move up and take one of the Iowa TEs as a replacement. Still, I don't think the Texans move off #23 if there is a OT or CB they like on the board.

Time for some fun.
This is about as realistic as I could make it until I see all the draft grades which will be better accessible via NFL.com.
R1. Byron Murphy CB. Washington.
R2. David Edwards OT. Wisc.
R2b. Julian Love CB. Notre Dame.
R3. Joe Lowery OT. Ohio.
R5. Parris Campbell WR. Ohio.
R6. Darrell Henderson RB. Memphis.

R1. Murphy. CB will be a huge need for Texans with JJoe aging and KJoe's future here uncertain. Murphy is a goodun.
R2. Edwards is on Texans radar and no-one needs an explanation as to our Oline needs.
R2. Julian Love. Texans wisely dip into the secondary again. With two vets and also KJohnson uncertain Texans gonna need a lot of secondary help.
R3. Joe Lowery will be a fast riser in this draft and with two solid rookies to develop and compete for starter spots Texans oline problems can only improve with this solid addition.
R5. Parris Campbell is a speedster and with WFV being somewhat under an injury cloud and no depth in the WR corp, he is a wise investment.
R6. With Foreman having a bad injury for a runner, Henderson will provide some insurance. This kid is very good and will certainly climb in the standings - may go in the 4th or higher.

If we can land these guys, I will be very excited about Texans next season.
