Why were we so quiet in the FA's today?

I mean we have alot of spots we need to fill and not the right personel to fill it. DId we just run out of cap room, or is it nobody wants to come to Houston :twocents:

At this point no one really knows. We shouldn't be anywhere near being out of cap room, although we will have to save a decent amount to sign our draft picks and get by until we can cut Walker and/or Wade after June 1. If I was running the team I'm not sure how many of the remaining guys I'd be going after real hard anyways, I think they already missed out on many/most of the good ones. Either way I'm sure there were some behind-the-scenes phone calls and negotiations that we won't find out about for several days until either we do sign someone else or someone we were targeting goes elsewhere.

Hopefully they locked CC and Ferens in a basement and quit this FA spending spree. Less FA is a good thing with these guys at the helm.

I don't think we have been extraordinarily quiet, I trawled through most of the other NFL teams websites today to see what the general attitude of other teams fans is and I would say we were about average in terms of activity. We may not have signed the big names, but as others have pointed out being 2-14 and having a rookie coachig staff makes Houston a fairly unattractive proposition.

you build a team through the draft.. you fill in missing puzzle pieces with free agency.. i think we did a decent job thus far. I really want Putzier and maybe Flanagan other then that i don't think we'll be pushing for anything big.

If they don't land Givens or Walter (and lose Gaffney), that's not a good thing. If they want Givens that bad, why did they tie up that money on Walter when they could have added it to Givens' offer. Don't tell me that all of a sudden they are being value conscious and won't give a player more than they think he's worth (capping Givens' offer at 18 mill). Getting one or the other is better than getting neither. Isn't it?

The won't be able to do too much more in FA because they will be reaching their spending limit. They need 5 or 6 million in reserve for rookie pool. They could probably either get a Givens, or a Walters and Putzier and I'd guess that's going to be about it.

Unless Givens comes down on his demands, Putzier and Flanagan are the only FAs we can afford. Weaver is a good signing; we just overpaid.
After 1st round, needs are OL,LB.CB.

I think I just heard John McClain say on 610 that the Texans will sign Putzier next week. He did not say what he based that opinion on. Could be just wishful thinking.

He's supposed to be coming here to talk. His wife had a baby or something like that so he's delaying it. Kubiak likes him and he likes Kubiak. He's definitely an upgrade over what the team has had.

Honestly, Kellen Winslow would be an upgrade. Sr that is. At his current age. Even if he lost an arm.

You saying that made me think of what we could do in the draft if that did happen. I would look at Mike Hass in the third round and Jonathan Orr in the fourth round. WR wouldnt be the strongest part of our team thats for sure but I think those two guys AJ and Jerome Mathis could get the job done.
