Texans random thought of the day

Anybody listen to 610 Sports today ? Stanford Rout was on there and was asked about Cal taking over . He said the Texans like players from Katy not Yates if you get the drift . They don't like guys with attitudes and Stanford said that you can't win if you don't have some of those guys . He said his ex neighbor couldn't get along with the Texan's brass and they got rid of him . The player ( I assume it was Jacoby ) ended up winning a SB and was a main cog .

I agree with this and hope Cal is different than Bob was.

I couldn't stand Jacoby, multi million $$$$ talent with a 10 cent brain. Late for meeting/planes/alcohol issues etc... in addition to being scared to death to go across the middle.

The more I think about it the more I'm on board. It's an offensive game. Need to invest the money protecting Watson and giving him true dynamic weapons to work with. Trade Watt and Clowney for picks .. I'd even let KJAX and honey badger walk. It's the right draft and free agency period to do this.

Watt for Antonio Brown? Clowney for another 2nd?
This Antonio Brown?

Former Steelers safety Ryan Clark doubles down on his criticism of Antonio Brown

‘Extremely self-centered, extremely selfish, and a narcissist’ were just some of the words Ryan Clark used to describe Antonio Brown on Tuesday.

Gaine did grab HB who had a weed issue long ago, Reid who had a brother who was against McNairs principals, saw another guy with history signed Let's see what changes

I had this conversation with my high school buddies about this . My HS buddies live in a different world than I do as they've climbed the corporate ladder and I an industrial electrician . It was about Duane Brown and some said they should have ditched him and some said you tolerate him till he can't play at a top level . That's what the elite teams do put up with you until you ain't worth the money .

2018 Texans review: Defensive line
Aaron Wilson , Houston Chronicle Jan. 10, 2019

.........................................There are scenarios, though, where the valuable role players who line up alongside Watt and Clowney might not be joining them in the huddle.

Defensive end Christian Covington is a free agent who had a career breakthrough with 3½ sacks. Covington indicated he wants to return, but he could draw some attractive offers on the open market.

Underrated defensive end Angelo Blackson, who made several timely plays, is another unrestricted free agent. He stayed with the Texans last year on a one-year, $1.24 million contract and contributed 24 tackles and one sack.

One of the hardest working players on the roster, defensive tackle Brandon Dunn is another free agent. Dunn had an interception in the playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He had 24 tackles and one forced fumble this season.

Joel Heath’s role was reduced this past season. He is a restricted free agent, meaning the Texans can keep him on the roster by submitting a qualifying tender offer and have the right of first refusal if Heath is signed by another team to an offer sheet.

A clock management specialist concept is not unheard of:

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn has shaken up his coaching staff this offseason, and one of the major changes is to have a coach whose responsibilities include clock management decisions and making the call on replay challenges........................
..........Giving a coach specific responsibilities relating to clock management is a smart move, one that Rams head coach Sean McVay did a year ago when he hired Jedd Fisch as an analyst and, in McVay’s words, “clock management specialist.” It won’t be surprising to see more coaches make these kinds of hires.

I take it then there is something wrong with calling a time out that benefits the other team? If not, why would we need such a person as a clock management specialist when OB has everything under control?

they said the colts were basically running a tampa 2 on defense 2 high safties I know we were down by like 2 scores but I wonder why we didnt run the ball more ..??? if we kept hitting one run was bound to break through

Or TEs up the seam or crossing routes behind LBs off play action.

That being the case, the Texans' 2018 averages of a 22.3 Nielsen rating and 804,000 viewers still lag behind 2016, when local games averaged 22.9 and 892,000 viewers. 2018's numbers were 18.1 and 663,000 viewers.

Something is wrong here.

This year's bottom line also got a boost from the Cowboys game being on "Sunday Night Football" and from a Monday night game against the Titans that also topped a million viewers.

That's like saying a QB, WR or RB got a boost from big plays. Well duh.

OK..........I'll go along with "at least a .3 down LB." :)

Cunnigham is an avg LB.

He's not what they thought they were getting. They thought they were getting Leonard, they got another avg LB that struggles in pass coverage. Cole is actually the best coverage LB they have.

2018 Texans review: Running backs
Aaron Wilson , Houston Chronicle Jan. 12, 2019 Updated: Jan. 12, 2019 11:10 a.m.

Fifth in a series

Stonewalled at every turn, the Texans’ running game pulled off a disappearing act late in the season that overshadowed an extremely strong start.

It got ugly and one-dimensional starting in December during a loss to the Indianapolis Colts that snapped a nine-game winning streak. Quarterback Deshaun Watson became the primary running threat in the final six games capped by a wild-card playoff game loss to the Colts.

The offensive line and tight ends had substandard run blocking after the Texans averaged 140 rushing yards during the first dozen games. There was no real explanation why other than not picking up blitzing safeties and not adapting to a crowded line of scrimmage. And the backs were incapable of breaking tackles or making defenders miss.

All of the above facts doesn’t mean that veteran running back Lamar Miller isn’t a capable runner, though. Miller was named to his first Pro Bowl.

Losing weight and getting more explosive in the offseason was the goal. And Miller delivered, rushing for 973 yards and five touchdowns and caught 25 passes for 163 yards and a score despite missing two games. He rushed for over 100 yards four times to tie a single-season career-high.

He had a 97 yard touchdown run in a win over the Tennessee Titans, the longest run in franchise history.

“Look, I think Lamar ran hard and I think we did a pretty good job of managing Lamar’s reps,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “We gave him a couple games off when he was injured. He was injured, he had ribs and ankle. We’ve used him a lot in the years that he’s been here. He’s a great pro. I love Lamar. I thought he had a really solid year.”

A year ago, former University of Texas star D'Onta Foreman suffered a serious injury when he ruptured his Achilles tendon while scoring a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.

It wound up taking the Texas City native over a year to play in a game again as he returned against the Philadelphia Eagles and caught a touchdown pass while also rushing for minus-one yards on seven carries.

The long recovery was frustrating for the Texans and Foreman and prevented him from making an impact this season.

O'Brien expressed confidence that the former consensus All-American and Doak Walker award winner still has a bright future heading into his third NFL season.

"Look, D’Onta Foreman’s obviously a very talented guy, but it took him forever to come back from his injury," O'Brien said. "So, hopefully with a good offseason, here’s a guy that can really, really be an excellent player in this league. I have a lot of belief in his ability, in D’Onta Foreman’s ability.

"I know he’s from right down here and he wants to be a Houston Texan and he wants to play well. I think he’s somebody that can help us."

THE REST OF THE STORY

Next years schedule has the Chiefs, Chargers, Saints, and Patriots as away games. Our home schedule isn't as scary as the road schedule is though. I hope ole Bob has a better plan for next year.

Almost. We have the Patriots at NRG for a change, and Tapa on the road (which is going to be tough with Arians there) but still

Watch Cunningham.

What was he doing.

He's supposed to go with the TE and release him to the S. He took false steps and generally looked like a drunk stumbling around on the street. Not that there's anything wrong with that being a drunk on the street, but it's not a good look at all for a supposed coverage NFL LB.

RAC has tried to use Cunningham that way, but it's obvious he's not up to the job and this isn't just one play, it's been a theme throughout the season.

Your point?

Sometimes you're terrier on a bone. Just chew for chew's sake.

By the way, made the best vegetable stew the other day (beets, turnips, yams, collards, kale, onions, poblanas & serranos). Words which never would have been uttered before you. Thx

Where's the MEAT???
